Antonin Scalia’s dissent in the gay marriage decision was scathing.

…Scalia, a conservative rock on the court since 1986, wrote his own stinging rejoinder calling the decision a ‘threat to American democracy’ – and snarking about gay ‘pride.’

‘Hubris is sometimes defined as o’erweening pride; and pride, we know, goeth before a fall,’ he wrote. ‘With each decision of ours that takes from the People a question properly left to them – with each decision that is unabashedly not based on law, but on the “reasoned judgment” of a bare majority of this Court – we move one step closer.’

Scalia, whose dissenting language on Obamacare provided pundits with endless quatables just one day ago, wrote that he ‘would hide my head in a bag’ if he were ever compelled to agree with Kennedy’s decision given its florid language and emphasis on ‘intimacy’ and ‘spirituality.’

‘The Supreme Court of the United States has descended from the disciplined legal reasoning of John Marshall and Joseph Story to the mystical aphorisms of the fortune cookie,’ he insisted

    But of course judicial activism overturning the will of the people concerning guns, as in Scalia’s Heller decision, isn’t a threat to democracy. Because Originalism. Or some similar bullshit.

    Scalia has it all wrong. SCALIA is a threat to American Democracy. We don’t need anyone like him in any area of government on a national or local level. We must move forward in human relationships. Love one another. Accept one another. Respect one another. Compassion for one another. God expects and demands it or we perish…

    If Americans are not happy with the constitution, there are mechanisms to modify it. If he wants the constitution to enforce his specific religious beliefs, he just needs to go through the process & convince enough people they should be forced to dance with snakes every Sunday, or whatever.

    Does he honestly not understand this?

    Antony “Three Fingers” Scalia (as Bartcop used to call him) seems to have enough whine in him during the last two days to fill up a vineyard.

    Curious fact (also from Bartcop): Speaking of threats to American democracy, Scalia’s daddy was a member of the American Nazi Party. Like Arnold’s daddy, except in this country.

    I disagree. I think this ruling strengthens American democracy. Up until this time, “marriage rules” were made by religion and when the government started requiring licenses and basing tax laws upon these “marriage rules” it made marriage a government issue. Today;s ruling has clearly separated religious marriage from government-defined marriage and has strengthened the separation of church and state, as it should have been from the beginning.
