Pope Francis spoke in Turin, Italy, to a rally of thousands of young people about those who deal in weapons.

If you trust only men you have lost,” he told the young people in a long, rambling talk about war, trust and politics after putting aside his prepared address.

“It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn’t it?” he said to applause.

He also criticized those who invest in weapons industries, saying “duplicity is the currency of today … they say one thing and do another.”

He’s correct and this is why America is failing as a country. All we do is load the population with guns and our military with WMDs and war. All of this will turn on us and this country will go down hard….

Pope Francis is so absolutely correct, not a lot of charitable thought or activity in the weapon proliferation biz.

    He is correct

Hard, if not impossible, to argue with his statements.

When he uses the word weapon, I do agree with him. But if he used the word Firearm, then I would have some qualifying to do. A weapon is any instrument that is used to kill another human being and it can be anything from a hammer to a 50Cal. rifle. A firearm is only a metal device used to project a metal object. Firearms are used for many recreational, sport, competitive, and procuring uses but a weapon is ONLY used for death of your fellow man. Ak-47’s , Glocks, and other such Weapons do need to be banned but not all firearms.

A knife exists to cut things. It can be used violently. When it is used violently, it is a weapon. Dynamite exists to detonate and destroy things. It also can be used violently. When dynamite is used violently, it is a weapon.

A firearm, however, exists for one purpose and one purpose only: to discharge a bullet or shot for one purpose and one purpose only — to violently extinguish life. A firearm is ALWAYS a weapon.

The fact that firearms can be used to discharge bullets or shot in a “sporting” or “competitive” manner is irrelevant to their sole reason for existence. Indeed, target shooting is nothing more than a demonstration of one’s skill in using a firearm to discharge bullets or shot in order to extinguish life. All firearms must be strictly controlled because of all the technologies that exist in the world today, they — along with bombs and missiles and land mines — are the only technologies specifically and exclusively designed for efficiency in the extermination of life.

For the most part I do agree with you. Almost anything can be used as a weapon which is my point. A weapon is any instrument that is used FOR a violent purpose. A knife can be used to cut many things, such as the pocket knife I have carried in my pocket since I was 8 years old. It has never been a weapon as I have never opened it for such purpose. I also own several firearms which have never been pointed at another human being. Therefore they also can be classified as tools, I have driven nails into wood with them. Or, they can be recreational in use. True, some firearms are designed and manufactured with only one purpose in mind, Killing a human being. I totally agree with out lawing and removing these kinds of firearms from the general public. But as for traditional firearms, this is only a very small percentage used in violent crimes. I will not say this small percentage is tolerant but we do live with many things in our lives that would be of considerable concern if they were to be removed for such a small percentage of misuse. I do enjoy my firearms and, yes, I have lived my entire 70 years in the Western U. S.

My hat is honorably off and my head bowed to my elders. But as I told my Professors in college; ” I have my opinion too. “

you are one sad case of illogic and desperation and fear

I bet you can’t string together a coherent thought about anything as well as he just did.

What alternative should we place our trust in? Police are out. Military is out.

This is a foolish statement, and World War 2, and its six million dead Jews who used no weapons, are a testament to the fact. Don’t trust in God to stop evil men, because he won’t. Trust in yourself.

Then again, I suppose stuff like this explains how I’m an atheist.
