Moms Demand Action Head: ‘Action, Not Condolences’ Needed From Politcians

Posted by | June 20, 2015 11:00 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews

Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, a group formed after the Newtown tragedy, spoke to me Friday night on radio. Her group is now part of Everytown For Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country. Watts voiced her concern about the role gun laws played in the church massacre in Charleston, SC.

Watts told me that the blame for incidents like the one in Charleston can be attributed to the ease at which people can obtain guns. She also talked about why gun safety should be a non-partisan issue, why lawmakers won’t stand up to the gun lobby in Washington, and why the idea that having guns everywhere makes us safer is a “total lie.”

“Watts told me that the blame for incidents like the one in Charleston
can be attributed to the ease at which people can obtain guns.”

yet he bought the gun legally and followed all laws….

      hmm

      • tracey marie June 20th, 2015 at 14:55

We need more laws, strictly enforced and better background checks. Our laws are weak and made to let almost anyone get their hands on a gun.

        • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 15:00

How many MORE laws??? He passed our laws…what LAW would have stopped him??

          • Bunya June 20th, 2015 at 15:51

Why do we need killing devices at all? Guns are as useful as cigarettes.

            • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 15:56

Well do elaborate how you will get rid of 300mil+ firearms in this country?

              • Bunya June 22nd, 2015 at 10:25

If I had the answer, we’d be gun free. Unfortunately we have way too many people in this country who think it’s absolutely necessary they have a killing device in their possession.

          • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:13

you fk’n idiot savant…. NO HE DID NOT! he didn’t buy the fk’n gun. his bastard of a sperm donor did and gave it to him. you read headlines and nothing else do you?

            • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:34

Even if that were true its not illegal….next….Mr potty mouth.

              • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:39

what’s not illegal? you know what, don’t answer that because you are apparently too stupid to think, and thinking is apparently a difficult thing for you to master.

      • Obewon June 20th, 2015 at 17:58

Mass-murdering racist Root was legally barred from gun humping by his prior convictions. Daylight clearly shines through your head from ear to ear.

        • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:11

damn, that just hurt my brain. why not hers? dope, don’t answer that.

        • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:25

What was the date of his conviction?

          • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:27

“conviction” being the key word. does it matter. he’s a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. he would not have been allowed for that very reason to have one. comprehension must be something you truly love to avoid huh?

            • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:35

So the date of his conviction was what?

              • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:38

so what does it matter you fk’n dummy? he was a convicted felon. he didn’t and couldn’t purchase a weapon legally. NOTE: he DIDN’T purchase a weapon. his sperm donor did. what part of that keeps going over your head?

                • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:41

If he was a convicted felon then surely you can provide that date.. Right?

                  • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:43

                    surely you can google.

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:45

You made the claim..you have to back it up.

                    • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:49

i made what claim? that he was a convicted felon who could not by law purchase a gun? it’s not a fk’n secret. what you seem to not want to comprehend is that he DIDN’T BUY THE GUN! you are claiming he did. it’s been stated by his own sperm donor and uncle that he didn’t buy the gun. so what does it matter to you about a damn date? damn, you have some serious issues with comprehension huh? school is out. and you’ve earned a -F.

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:54

You still haven’t proven he was a felon

                    • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 19:06

                      back up what claim?

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 19:07

                      He is a felon.

          • Obewon June 20th, 2015 at 19:24

Ammosexuals Federally barred from guns and ammo purchases are Guber Ricky-Bobby Perry & others under Judicial restraining orders, Felons, Dishonorably discharged veterans, those on DHS/FBI watch lists, foreigners, and legally adjudicated ‘Mental incompetents’ e.g. small penis gun club charter member and overcompensating shithead ‘screaming(in)sanity’ whose penis shall always remain small and insignificant. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=small+penis+gun+club

Then we need to get rid of those laws that are ineffective and pass laws that are effective. Whether it takes one law or ten laws or ten thousand laws.

        • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:41

          What law?

          • NW10 June 20th, 2015 at 18:41

yet he bought the gun legally and followed all laws….

            • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:45

So because someone followed the law..you now want to change it?

              • NW10 June 20th, 2015 at 18:47

Yes, because the law FAILED and was ineffective. A person who was charged with a felony was still able to easily have access to a gun.

                • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:47

                  He wasn’t a felon.

                  • NW10 June 20th, 2015 at 18:49

Did I say he was a felon?

I posted that he was charged with a felony, and therefore couldn’t legally possess a firearm. But, despite that, he was still able to have easy access to a gun because his father got the gun for him.

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 19:03

The 4473 form only states conviction.

So do you have a link that shows an arrest prevents you from purchasing?

                    • NW10 June 20th, 2015 at 19:04

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 19:06

That article doesn’t point to the law or statue that says its illegal.

                    • NW10 June 20th, 2015 at 19:09

It was reported that his father purchased him a handgun for his 21st birthday. Roof’s birthday is listed as April 4, 1994.
His 21st birthday was this past April. Two months after he’s charged
with a felony his father buys him a gun? This means if his father
purchased a gun for his birthday it was a straw purchase, a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

                    • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 19:13

CNN also reports he bought it himself…
We might should hold off on this discussion until the facts are out.

                    • BigDumbWhiteGuy June 20th, 2015 at 22:56

That article is bullshit, they jacked up the original incident report. The paperwork might have shown that was what the arrest was for, but that’s definitely not what he was charged with. A solid clue that the paperwork got screwed up is that under the charges it says “3rd/Sub” as in 3rd or subsequent offense. The kid’s a scumbag, but let’s not make stuff up.

                    • BigDumbWhiteGuy June 20th, 2015 at 22:35

Actually, his possession charge was a misdemeanor. The ban only applies to those charged with a crime for which the maximum penalty is more than one year in prison.

                  • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:52

                    yes he was!!!!

                • whatthe46 June 20th, 2015 at 18:52

he didn’t buy the gun. his sperm donor did and gave it to him for his birthday. the law wasn’t ineffective because he didn’t purchase it because he and his donor knew he couldn’t. he wasn’t even legally allowed to have access.

                  • Screamingsanity June 20th, 2015 at 18:55

              • Obewon June 20th, 2015 at 19:49

‘Judicial restraining order barred Root & Ricky-Bobby Perry from guns and ammo purchases. On February 28, Mass murder Roof was arrested for drug possession at a mall in Columbia S.C., where he was searched by officers after storekeepers complained that he was acting unusually and asking questions about opening hours and the number of staff on the premises.

The Wall Street Journal reports a police incident document said Roof was found to have strips of Suboxone, a pain drug sometimes used to treat opiate addiction. He did not have a prescription for the drug, which is commonly sold illegally on the street.

He was banned from the mall for one year and was out on bond waiting for the courts to process his felony drug-possession charges when he was arrested in the parking lot of the same mall two months later. Roof was charged with trespassing on April 26 in violation of his ban from the mall. Roof was found guilty a month later and fined $262.50.He was banned from the mall for one year and was out on bond waiting for the courts to process his felony drug-possession charges when he was arrested in the parking lot of the same mall two months later. Need some more info especially the restraining order as I haven’t seen it online..but that doesn’t bar you from purchasing firearms either.

                  • Obewon June 20th, 2015 at 20:46

You’ve proven yourself as willfully ignorant as banned Dave Miller. Buh-bye now. Happy trolling elsewhere.

ATF form 4473 (what you fill out to do the background check)
                      says..

Question 11 h. Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing,
stalking, or threatening your child or an intimate partner or child of
                      such partner’?

no other mention of “restraining order”

Looks like the poster above was correct…
