Dad Accuses Math Teacher Of Driving Daughter To Suicide

A New York father is suing, claiming his 12-year-old daughter was driven to suicide by her math teacher.

Ivan Almonte claims in court papers filed Friday that his daughter Stephanie hanged herself from a bunk bed after being tormented by Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School teacher Nina Gribetz.

Citing Stephanie’s classmates, Almonte’s suit against the city Education Department and Board of Education said Gribetz made her “a target” in class.

Gribetz singled out Stephanie by subjecting her to “micromanagement, excessive detentions for no reason on a daily basis, embarrassment in front of other students in the same class, negative performance on her report cards and by intentionally getting her in trouble with her parents,” according to the Manhattan Supreme Court suit, filed on the one-year anniversary of her suicide.

Stephanie’s older brother, in an emotional interview at the family’s Washington Heights home, said his sister “didn’t want to go to that school anymore.”

“I would put all the blame on that teacher,” Ivan Almonte Jr., 25, told the Daily News.

some kids aren’t as emotionally strong as others. she’s not the first to take her life because she couldn’t handle what was being thrown at her.

They don’t. They bring their concerns to their parents who can bring the issue to the school.

I witnessed a teacher attacking and bullying a particular student in Jr. High. I finally had enough, stood up and confronted the teacher after one of his tirades , I was suspended but it was the catalyst that made the other students speak up and the school take notice. The Teacher was eventually fired
