Obamacare Supporters Rally To Help Man Who Rejected It
Luis Lang, a conservative who refused Obamacare is now getting help from his political opponents.
TPM’s Josh Marshall tartly summarized Lang’s situation, “Lang is left in precisely the situation that would exist if the ACA had never been passed. So he blames Obama.” My healthinsurance.org colleague Charles Gaba reacted in similar fashion, in a post titled: “See man hate Obamacare. See man refuse to get Obamacare. See man whine that he can’t get Obamacare when he needs it.”
Many liberals on Lang’s GoFundMe page were similarly scathing. Yet it’s telling that some of the toughest comments are from people who also donated to help. And not every commentator was so brutal. Many responded with surprising generosity. A man named Victor Torres-Bowser writes:
Hello – I am a leftie liberal gay dad who also feels badly for your situation and wants to donate some money to you for your horrible situation. Just make sure you sign up for some sort of insurance during the next open enrollment. Hope your case is a lesson to others.
In similar fashion, Luther Patenge writes:
Decent healthcare is a basic human right. I hope this finds you and your family well. Good luck.
That’s precisely the spirit from which to offer help.

To be fair to Mr. Lang, he has been very gracious and thankful to his liberal donors:
“I am a honest person and I have to give a big thumbs up to the liberal side. Even though you have crucified me in your comments but you spoke with your heart with the donations. I respect everybody opinion whether I agree with you or not. That is why we live in the U.S.A. home of the free and free speech. As far as the conservative side I wish they would step up to the plate and do there part. Again thank you all and i will be posting updates with my condition.”
“sorry one last thing I have to hand it to the liberal side you sure do know how to get the word out when you dislike something. I say shame on the conservative bloggers for resting on there laurels.”

I also donated to Mr. Lang and left a message, telling him that my Christian faith compelled me to help him and urging him to think twice when he hears someone describe us a “godless dirty/filthy/liberals.” It seems that it’s us “godless/dirty/filthy liberals” who have found it within ourselves to help him when those he aligns himself with have hung him out to twisted in the wind and find his own way out of his medical mess.

Obamacare saved my life even though I earn my insurance through work.
Not long after Obamacare ended lifetime caps, I got a very expensive illness.
Even though I’ve been paying insurance premiums my whole life, ConservaCare would have let me die because I was reducing the profits of the insurance companies a little.
Thanks, Obama!
