After 67 Tries, Republicans Give Up On Obamacare Repeal
After 67 tries, they’ve finally given up.
GOP congressional leaders, unable to roll back the law while President Obama remains in office and unwilling to again threaten a government shutdown to pressure him, are focused on other issues, including trade and tax reform.
Less noted, senior Republican lawmakers have quietly incorporated many of the law’s key protections into their own proposals, including guaranteeing coverage and providing government assistance to help consumers purchase insurance.
And although the law remains very unpopular with GOP voters, more than 20 million Americans now depend on it for health benefits, making even some of the most conservative Republicans loath to cut off coverage.
Facing the prospect that the Supreme Court this year could strip away insurance subsidies provided through the law in most states, several GOP lawmakers have proposed extending the aid, perhaps even until a new president takes office.

Ted Cruz, Rube and the Gang of 47 hate ObamaCare so much they covered their entire families with ACA HC that reduces Federal deficits $1.5 T+ per CBO!

Now they are peeing on themselves because if the SCOTUS agrees with them…. they will get clobbered at the polls… Like that gopee blogger that saw the light when he could retire and have coverage which he now realizes is in jeopardy if the Gopee wins…so he is in the Hillary camp now LOL

My dad had a saying about “…giving people what they want, whether they want it or not…” If it weren’t for 20 million people losing their coverage I’d like to see the Repugs win this one in the courts. It will mean losing the House and Senate. They would set themselves back at least a decade from being in a position to ever win the WH before the next century. And it would basically show the American people just who the R’s really are…a party that will spend billions killing people who are no threat to us in foreign lands while denying the most basic of medical care for the citizens who pay for those wars…C’mon, $15 trillion went into Iraq and Afghanistan without a peep from this party, yet when it comes to helping its’ own constituents they balk a paying 8% of the money they wasted keeping them healthy.

with elections coming up they need to keep the sheep focused on a new wolf…Hillary.
especially when they’re obviously unwilling to come up with their own alternative to replace it.
Dwendt44 April 19th, 2015 at 14:06
What they will do is stop openly trying to repeal the ACA. They will still try underhanded ways of doing the same thing. Trying to cut funding, or at least cap the spending on the ACA. IF that works then try to ‘reduce’ (not cut) the spending for the ACA. Nibble around the edges until they can say: “See, it’s a failure, so let’s do away with it in total!”.
Obewon April 19th, 2015 at 14:36
That’s why the Dem leadership legislated ACA funding with 85% nondiscretionary spending, funded without congressional oversight! Congress can only defund the remaining 15% ACA funding for local state HC clinic disease prevention of STD’s, breast and other cancers, Teabola epidemics, etc.

Get government out of the health care business as much as possible. Limit them to limited regulations and financial support to those who need it.
Obamacare, Medicaid, Medicare and VA hospitals should be abolished.
People under these programs and those who are financially below the poverty level should be given a yearly amount that they could use to purchase health insurance.
Keep the federal regulation stating that insurance companies have to cover pre-existing conditions as long as the person had previous insurance.
Allow people to purchase insurance from any state.
Deregulate state health insurance markets.
Unhinge medical insurance from employers in the tax code.
Getting government out and increasing competition in this way will lower health care costs. It cuts the bureaucracy costs, cuts the fraud costs and improves competition and quality of care.
kingdiamond April 19th, 2015 at 20:51
Government had no choice but to get involved in healthcare insurance companies were going rogue denying people treatment after years of faithfully paying their premiums.
whatthe46 April 19th, 2015 at 21:25
well, health insurance isn’t the only thing he wants to get rid of. sounds like a nut case.
OldLefty April 19th, 2015 at 21:41
[Get government out of the health care business as much as possible. Limit them to limited regulations and financial support to those who need it.]
_______
That is EXACTLY what has caused the problems.
I say, get this third party (health insurance) who contributes nothing to care and which is ONLY involved to get a cut of the money spent on care out. It basically acts as a parasite.
[People under these programs and those who are financially below the poverty level should be given a yearly amount that they could use to purchase health insurance.]
______
And who pays when they require more care than the policy covers.?
An ICU bed with mechanical ventilation can be between $3,000 – $6,000 per day.
What do hospitals do about the increasing uncompensated care?
[Keep the federal regulation stating that insurance companies have to cover pre-existing conditions as long as the person had previous insurance.]
_____
They did not have to cover the pre-existing condition and they could raise the premiums.
Guaranteed issue is the best way to go.
[Allow people to purchase insurance from any state.]
EVERYTHING that is wrong with that;
http://www.medhealthinsurance.com/blog/purchasing-insurance-another-state/
[Deregulate state health insurance markets.]
______
They need to be MORE tightly regulated.
[Unhinge medical insurance from employers in the tax code.]
_____
Single payer is the way to go.
[Getting government out and increasing competition in this way will lower health care costs. It cuts the bureaucracy costs, cuts the fraud costs and improves competition and quality of care.]
_______
What competition????
Profit driven insurance simply does not work in healthcare.
The insurance industry has dramatically increased bureaucracy, resulting in;
-Requirements resulting from dealing with health insurance companies
-Large billing departments of hospitals and other medical facilities
-Large negotiating staffs within medical facilities, such as hospitals, to deal with the negotiation of rates between individual health insurance companies and each facility or its organization
-Large billing staffs at physicians’ offices
Insurers ARE the bureaucrats between you and your doctor.

“Obamacare, Medicaid, Medicare and VA hospitals should be abolished.
People under these programs and those who are financially below the poverty level should be given a yearly amount that they could use to purchase health insurance.”
So you think that the government should be subsidizing the insurance business? Last I heard they were one of the top 10 most profitable industries. (Right up there with fossil fuel and military contracts) but you still think the government should be subsidizing them? How is that not a waste of government money?
Oh, and to point out a real critical thinking error, Medicaid and Medicare ARE private insurance that runs on a government contract. SEVERAL insurance companies and programs.
VA hospitals. So those who fought for our freedom you want to welch on the promise made to them when they enlisted? If this is the morals of the Right, you are no better than a snake oil salesman. These people fought in the battles WE sent them to, on the promise we would take care of them when they came home.
And lastly, deregulating insurance markets cannot and WILL NOT lead, as your insane rant states, to lower health care costs. If anything, they will skyrocket out of control. Remember that in most areas, health care is very limited in availability, so you go to who is available, not who is cheapest, and if you are sick, NOT going is not an option. We are over a barrel to them. When the Affordable Care kicked in, inflation of medical costs and insurance costs dropped, to the lowest it’s been in decades.
EVERYTHING you said is either a lie, or a horrid breaking of the social contract with our vets, and the retired.
Grand1 April 19th, 2015 at 23:07
You are ignorant of the realities of health care costs.

bpollen April 20th, 2015 at 15:28
And do you know WHY we have these abysmal waiting lists? Because Republicans start wars off the books, and then get cheap when it comes to caring for the military personnel they throw at those wars. Estimates for the cost of caring for returning vets as opposed to those who were already in the system was $40 billion. They provided $10 billion. You starve (intentionally) an organization, it has a hard time accomplishing its stated goal. So, instead of privatizing it, why not fund it adequately to do the job?
OldLefty April 20th, 2015 at 15:40
That’s just political correctness.
If you show me the report; What was the diagnosis, what care was called for, what was the prognosis, and what happened, I might change my mind, but so far these are just vague, feel good/outraged (take you pick) rhetoric.
Does that mean the VA needs no reform??
Of course not.
But the private sector will be worse as we have already seen.
Meanwhile, what is excuse when this happens in the private sector?
Claire Wood April 20th, 2015 at 23:02
What it really means is that this recalcitrant congress has stripped funding to the bone, which resulted in reduced staff, crowded conditions and long waiting lists
Jack E Raynbeau April 20th, 2015 at 23:30
Sick people die. It’s not rocket surgery.
Ren42 April 20th, 2015 at 22:12
As a disabled combat veteran that did two tours in Germany, I am not only very pleased with my healthcare through the VA, I think the US should move to a single-payer system, like they have in the rest of the civilized world.
Every country in Western Europe provides every single one of their citizens with quality healthcare, while spending around half of what we spend in America, and we have tens of millions of uninsured individuals. And don’t tell me they have inferior healthcare overseas, because their life expectancy is around two years longer than ours.
The problem with healthcare in America is that it is a “For Profit” business. That’s horseshit!!!
Claire Wood April 20th, 2015 at 23:01
Truly, Single Payer is the Nirvanah we all seek. Medicare for all would be pretty good.
Jack E Raynbeau April 20th, 2015 at 23:29
I love and am grateful for my VA care.
Jack E Raynbeau April 20th, 2015 at 23:22
Nonsense. I get my healthcare through the VA. It’s excellent. Turn the right wing radio off.
Claire Wood April 20th, 2015 at 23:00
Thank you for this statement, dragontech64. I spent 30+ years in the health insurance industry(as a claims analyst) and I know for a hard fact that the most efficient, most cost effective, lowest error ratio and most dependable insurance available is Medicare. I guess ole TK up there does not know we all pay premiums if we have Medicare??? The ACA of course is something the individual or family purchases. Pre ex if prior coverage?????HA! How the hell is someone going to get coverage in the first place if they have such a condition. You have no idea the lengths to which a small group/individual plan administrator will go to rescind a policy over a first claim that comes in with a chronic or deadly diagnosis which was undisclosed on the application…..because the policy would not have been approved if it had been disclosed. These people make me quite ill.

I would like to know , how much tax payer money did they waste trying to Repeal this Law ? How many Man Hours did they waste , when they could have been passing needed Legislation for Veterans, infrastructure, and various needed Bills to move our Country Forward ?
Obewon April 20th, 2015 at 00:31
Congress costs $2 M per day. Repubs aren’t multi-taskers so it takes them 67 days to vote 67 times totaling $134 M in impossible ACA repeal costs. Plus the billions for the Ted Cruz shutdown costs, so that he could read ‘Green eggs and tea party spam’ on t.v.

Meanwhile, there are many serious problems that only Congress can solve. But the Republicans refuse to do their jobs.
For example — identity theft. I had TWO co-workers this year have tax refunds stolen.
What the hell has the GOP-led Congress done to solve that? NOTHING!!!
Or how about the bridges that regularly fall down? Or how about the regular salmonella outbreaks? Or how about the abuse of “contractor” status employees? Or how about all the jobs being shipped overseas? Or how about the likelihood that another stock market crash seems to be coming?
NOTHING! The GOP does NOTHING about any of these things.
but, they will try to take away our healthcare 67 times.
