UPDATED: Barry Manilow To Be Married; Had Earlier Commitment Ceremony

UPDATE: Manilow and KIef ad a commitment ceremony, and plan to marry later this year, reports the New York Daily News.

On Thursday, it was widely reported that the “Mandy” singer had wed Kief in a private ceremony last year.

But Confidenti@l has learned the pair are planning to tie the knot this summer, and what “sources” for various tabloids are finally catching wind of was a “commitment ceremony” in Palm Springs, Calif.

“It was not a legal marriage,” scoffs a source close to the singer. “It was a commitment ceremony. They never got a marriage license or filed papers. A friend got a certificate online and performed the ceremony. Legally, it’s not worth the paper it’s written on!”

Barry Manilow has married his long-time manager, Gary Kief. The marriage occurred last year, but was just revealed.

The nuptials were a surprise, a source said, when 50 guests were invited to lunch at Manilow’s Palm Springs, Calif., spread.

Suzanne Somers was “best man” and Manilow’s assistant performed a “commitment ceremony.”

Though the very private pair apparently didn’t sign any paperwork for fear the union would leak, they’re wearing wedding bands and “are committed to one another and have been for a very long time,” a source reportedly said. “They have a great relationship. Garry has always been there for Barry.”

A rep for Manilow said, “I don’t comment on my clients’ personal lives.”
