Jesse Lee Peterson: God Didn’t Make Gays, Because ‘God Doesn’t Make Mistakes’

Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson, who said, “Discrimination is given to us by God,” told me that gays are not a creation of God because “God doesn’t make mistakes.”

Peterson explained why he is defending discrimination and calling it “a hallmark of freedom.” When Alan asked Rev. Peterson if he is okay with segregation and with black people being forced to sit in the back of a movie theater, Rev. Peterson quickly negated his stance: “No, I’m not fine with that.”

Later, Rev. Peterson addressed whether or not being gay is a choice. “God didn’t make them that way. God doesn’t make mistakes,” Peterson exclaimed. “There is no proof at all that men and women are born homosexual.”

    A god didn’t make anyone.

I wonder what, to name an extreme example, conjoined twins think of the idea that “God doesn’t make mistakes.” Or the parents of children with fatal, painful congenital diseases.

Many evangelicals would tell you that those things are due to Adam and Eve’s ‘fall’.

There’s a logical fallacy in his argument. The only logical conclusion from the syllogism is as follows:
    God doesn’t make mistakes.
    Homosexual people exist.
Therefore, homosexuality is not a mistake.

The other perfectly plausible explanation is that god doesn’t exist. But yes, by the premises of his argument, either god doesn’t exist or homosexuality is not a mistake, and that seems pretty much in line with the fact that despite their constant braying and praying, the anti-LGBT reich wing has failed to prevent same-sex marriage and ever-increasing acceptance of gay people.

I think God made the biggest mistake with this man.
Can’t believe he really knows God.
Just because he’s a religious fanatic, it doesn’t make him an authority on God.
People like him makes you cringe listening to their BS.

Discrimination is wrong and hurts everyone. If you open your doors to the public, you have to serve the entire public. If you use any tax/government money, you can not discriminate against anyone.
I would be gay even if I never had sex. It is not about sex. I was born a lesbian. I’m fine with that. I am just like everyone else except the gender of the person I am married to. I should not have to live in fear of losing my job or home or not being served in a public place just because I’m gay.

I wouldn’t say that all discrimination is wrong. If a man came into my establishment wearing a NAMBLA shirt, proclaiming to be a dyed-in-the-wool pedophile, I’d give him 2 seconds to walk out the door, before I threw him through it. Discrimination, in that case, would be perfectly acceptable.

    Dear Alan
    Why court bigots?
Why give them a platform for their hate?
Why enable their vitriolic discrimination plans?

Who did Jesus say we should deny to serve?
The deeply held convictions of Jesus was to serve all…
Why patronize “christians” that disregard Jesus and do so in his name?

    Que bono?

    Things Jesus never said:
    … Give me money
… Stop persecuting me, I’m dying up here
    … Gays

I think that, eventually, the Supreme Court will have to make a final ruling on how the Civil Rights act relates to the LGBT community, if at all. Some states hold businesses to a strict standard of non-discrimination, while others will just say, “the Civil Rights Act doesn’t say anything about orientation” and let their business get away with not baking that gay wedding cake.
Personally, I’d be happy for the business. Gay money spends just like “straight” money.
Jesus kept company with murderers, thieves and prostitutes, yet we don’t accuse him of betraying his faith. How would me making you a cake for your gay wedding be a “sin” on my part? Answer: it wouldn’t be.
