Muppets Coming Back?

ABC is looking at revitalizing the Muppets.

The Alphabet Network has greenlit the filming of footage for a potential pilot for a new “Muppets Show, centering around Jim Henson’s famous fuzzy critters. It’s time to get things started: the “proof of concept” would likely be showcased at May’s upfront presentations for advertisers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original “Muppet Show”ran on Britain’s ATV from 1976 to 1981, and in syndication on this side of the Pond. But the franchise has gained new popularity since the Jason Segel-scripted reboot hit theaters four years ago.

The new-look “Muppets” is purported to have a meta-feel, centtering around Kermit and company’s meeting at ABC Studios to pitch a brand new (what else?) Muppet show. But complications are afoot when Miss Piggy’s rocky relationship with her frog prince threatens to derail the series.

Sadly, the late Swedish Chef will not be joining the Muppets. RIP.
