Man Told by Christie To ‘Sit Down And Shut Up’ Running For Office

James Keady will not “sit down and shut up.” Keady held up a sign on the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, urging Governor Chris Christie to “Stay in New Jersey & finish the job.”

Keady — who was told off by Christie in October…at a press conference in Belmar — is launching a campaign for Assembly as a Democrat in Monmouth and Ocean County’s 30th Legislative District.

“It’s official. Tonight I proudly accepted the nomination to run for the NJ Assembly in the 30th District,” Keady wrote on Twitter Monday night.

By nomination, Keady meant the backing of the Monmouth and Ocean County Democratic parties. The Democratic primary is in June, though it’s unclear if he’ll have any competition.

The 30th District is heavily Republican.

Keady, 43 — whose sign was referring to ongoing recovery struggles by Hurricane Sandy victims — lives in Spring Lake. He is a former councilman in Asbury Park and founding director of Educating for Justice, a non-profit that advocates for Nike’s factory workers in Indonesia.

“The deeper that I dug into the Hurricane Sandy issue, I saw just an absolute void of leadership, lack of full accountability, lack of policy transparency, and just in a very human way a complete abandonment of 15,000 families who are still struggling to get back into their homes,” Keady said today in a phone interview. “I felt those families in particular needed a voice in Trenton.”

In other words, just another Gov. Christie public meeting where he shows his incredible lack of empathy and consideration for his constituents.

Haven’t you watched him??? This is the usual response from him when cornered…he lashes out…a genuine bully.

Now the real Christie comes out…it was only a matter of time before the bully showed up.

In the upcoming elections, I have no doubt we will see plenty of examples of the double standard in corporate media as well as from right wing pundits in their coverage.

Bascially, right wing politicians are allowed to be jerks and to be downright rude to the people they ostensibly serve. Gov. Christie is simply the most obvious example. But there are numerous other examples such as the Texas legislator who hung a sign on his door that said “Former Fetus” the day before a group from Planned Parenthood was coming to lobby the legislature.

I am sure we all remember Joe not the Plumber with whom candidate Obama had a very polite exchange. We all know what the right wing bullsh*t machine would have done if Mr. Obama had told Joe to sit down and shut up. The corporate media would certainly have done their part with perpetual repetition. Even when Mr. Obama spoke with empathy, intending no ill will at a private gathering about people “clinging” to guns and religion, he was villified for those comments

But Republicans can say damn near anything they want, including being absolute jerks to ordinary citizens. Their supporters will swoon and the sycophantic corporate media will take little note of it, leaving the story to die a day or two later.

It is shaping up to be a fun-filled Presidential season boys and girls. The Republican field includes a governor who tells people to shut up, even as the party criticizes the President for being “divisive”. It also includes a Senator who vows to repeal Obamacare, while his family enjoys its benefits. Then there is the ex governor who may run. That is the guy from Arkansas who rails against requiring coverage of contraception in health insurance, but as governor signed a bill which did exactly that.

I have to wonder if there is a precise measurement as to how low on the low-information voter scale do you have to be in order to vote Republican. Does it register in negative numbers?

Time for a new bumper sticker on my car to replace the OBAMA2012 I have there now. Maybe I will order up a custom sticker from one of the online vendors
