On Feb. 23, Schweich told an Associated Press reporter that he believed the new chairman of the Missouri Republican Party — John Hancock — had mentioned to people in an off-handed way last year that Schweich was Jewish. Schweich said he considered the comments anti-Semitic and was so upset about them that he had knots in his stomach. He said he wanted to hold a press conference about it the next day.
Hancock has denied making anti-Semitic remarks, though he has acknowledged that he may have told some people that Schweich was Jewish because he mistakenly believed that was true. Hancock declined to comment Thursday about the circumstances of Schweich’s death.

it also stands to reason why it should never be a part of our government. it should never be seen as a criteria to govern. no one should ever be questioned about his/her faith as when running for political office as apparently it means if you don’t believe in mine, you aren’t worthy. and this man kills himself because his is questioned, is super crazy.

I have little doubt that he was right, that merely having Jewish ancestry is enough for a Right Wing Fascist to lose support from his fellow Right Wing Fascists. They’ll jet across the country when summoned by Sheldon “Hover-Round” Adelson, and get on their knees and take his money, do his Oligarch bidding, but actually BEING Jewish!!1!1! AHHH!!!1! Now you’ve crossed the line!!1!

From the party that made such a grand show of genuflecting before Benjamin Netanyahu, we see that in the real world of their electoral politics, being Jewish according to some in the party makes you unfit to hold elective office.
That fact can speak for itself on the topic of what the Republican party actually stands for.

Why would you want to join a party where rumors of Jewish ancestry, let alone being Jewish, is a detriment to your political career? I guess it wasn’t psychologically damaging to belong to it when your party was just bashing Obama because his father was Muslim.

Why would one kill himself over an allegation, even if it’s true? If everyone follows his way, there won’t be many alive.

Sadly, those who would consider suicide usually aren’t thinking rationally about things. But besides that, it’s not the allegation itself, but the attitude of people to the allegation (not the belief that he was jewish, but the anti-semitic sentiment that went along with it) that is likely the catalyst for his suicide.

Conservatives need somebody to hate, it’s in their blood it seems. It’s one of the founding principles of conservatism. Ardent nationalism requires an enemy of some sort. Preferably an external one, but failing that, an internal one will suffice.
