House Democrats Protecting Boehner From Coup

They’d rather keep him than deal with a right wing nut job.

A number of right-wing Republicans, long wary of Boehner’s commitment to GOP efforts attacking President Obama’s policy priorities, have openly considered a coup in an attempt to transfer the gavel into more conservative hands.

But Democrats from across an ideological spectrum say they’d rather see Boehner remain atop the House than replace him with a more conservative Speaker who would almost certainly be less willing to reach across the aisle in search of compromise. Replacing him with a Tea Party Speaker, they say, would only bring the legislative process — already limping along — to a screeching halt.

“I’d probably vote for Boehner [because] who the hell is going to replace him? [Ted] Yoho?” Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) said Wednesday, referencing the Florida Tea Party Republican who’s fought Boehner on a host of bipartisan compromise bills.

“In terms of the institution, I would rather have John Boehner as the Speaker than some of these characters who came here thinking that they’re going to change the world,” Pascrell added.

    GOP not the Teabag?
The Devil you know or the lesser Evil?
    Worse but not the Worst?
    Dumber not the Dumbest?
    Stupider not the Stupidest?
    Meaner not the Meanest?

    a better question would be
who wants to work with the republicans Period There has to be a reason why nobody wants the job

Short-term gain, long-term loss. Let the Teahadists fly their Gadsden flag from the Speaker’s chair proudly. Best thing that could happen to the country.

The Dems are wrong on this one, a coup on Boehner would finish fracturing the Tbag party, it’s exactly what’s needed. The people of this country need to know just how loony these toons are. My choice would be Louie Gohmert.

Yeah but think of the devastation suffered by the comedy channel if Boehner goes away.

Can he wiggle his ears like Stan?

That reasoning is like learning of a major terrorist attack planned to hit your city, and letting it happen so that you can then force through laws that will let you more aggressively deal with future attacks. Sure, in the long term it may have a net positive, but do you really think it’s OK to let the negative part happen?

Do you really think that the Tea Party’s looniness isn’t going to be obvious anyway? Indeed, Democrats helping to keep Boehner in place will result in greater Republican infighting and accusations as the moderates who don’t want to see the Tea Party take power push back against the Tea Party extremists.

In fact, if the Democrats are clever, they’ll start working to fracture the Tea Party completely away from the other Republicans by putting forward bills that the sane part of the GOP will love but the TP will hate. The more shrill the TP gets, the better.

Remember, it’s not about defeating the Republicans entirely. It’s about dragging them into the 21st century and pushing them to reform to become an effective and sane opposition. The parliamentary system used both here in Australia and over there in the US works best when you have two competent, sane, effective parties debating, sometimes compromising and sometimes standing firm, to achieve the best possible outcomes. When one party gets ongoing power because of the absence of a viable opposition, they are inevitably corrupted.

If the person representing your apposing party is a fool, it’s always better to leave him alone.

Right wingers are truly becoming unhinged.

Check out the comments (if you have the stomach for it) on the original article at thehill.com.

At the moment, nearly 3300 comments and based on my sampling, 99% are bat-turd insane.

    For instance

“rick SWDC • an hour ago
Never! When casting votes becomes pointless, casting of lead will begin.””

    • Larry Schmitt March 6th, 2015 at 13:53

Wow. When there are that many comments, what’s the point? No one will read them all. I like a nice, close-knit group like we have here.

Can you picture Gohmert or Issa as speaker???

    • Suzanne McFly March 6th, 2015 at 16:56

Piss on that, I would kick my TV every single time the news was on, I cannot afford to do that.

      • rg9rts March 7th, 2015 at 01:52

It could be stuck on comedy central?

        • Suzanne McFly March 7th, 2015 at 11:24

Now I would not mind that at all, in fact it is on that channel as I type :)

      • burqa March 7th, 2015 at 10:10

Yeah, you’d need Elvis money to do that….

  8. oldfart March 6th, 2015 at 16:48

what strange political times we live in when the enemy of my friend …is my friend ???

  9. John Tarter March 7th, 2015 at 09:32

You have to hand it to the Dems, even when they are not in the majority they are still controlling things. Unbelievable!

    • OldLefty March 7th, 2015 at 09:54

That is EXACTLY what WE said about the Reps.

That was the who point of the 2009 Obama inauguration dinner they had at the Caucus Room with Frank Luntz and senior GOP members
worked out a plan on Inauguration day, 2009, to repeatedly block Obama over the coming four years to try to ensure he would not be re-elected.

Hence, Cap and Trade went from being “market solutions” when Republicans promoted it to “anti businesses Cap and Tax” when Obama shunned his base and reached across the aisle to promote a policy that REPUBLICANS had supported in the past.

    • burqa March 7th, 2015 at 10:09

..not to anyone who has been paying attention for decades…

    • arc99 March 7th, 2015 at 11:42

What is unbelievable is that you right wingers vote for people who hate government.

Then you wonder why these people who hate government cannot govern.

Here’s a tip you may want to remember next election day. Somebody who hates government is probably not the best choice to have a job in government.

      • burqa March 7th, 2015 at 12:27

        Good points (as usual).
When I was running construction crews and doing the hiring and firing I never hired anyone who didn’t want to do the job.
I was kinda wacky like that.

Mr. B must be essential for fundraising or something, it’s definitely not for job performance.
