15 New York Towns Considering Secession

If you don’t get what you want, you just leave, even if you happen to be a town.

Fifteen towns in upstate New York have expressed interest in secession after the state banned fracking, according to an interest group researching the economic benefits of such a move.

The Upstate New York Towns Association said 15 towns expressed interest breaking away to join Pennsylvania, which allows fracking, according to television station WBNG. Although the group declined to name specific towns involved in the effort, WBNG reported the towns are located in Broome, Delaware, Tioga and Sullivan counties…

The secession seed apparently was planted by Conklin, N.Y. town supervisor Jim Finch (R) back in December when New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) announced a ban on the gas extraction technique. Conklin is part of the towns association.

“The Southern Tier is desolate,” Finch told WBNG. “We have no jobs and no income. The richest resource we have is in the ground.”

New York state Sen. Majority Deputy Leader Tom Libous (R) also included a question on secession in a recent survey of his constituents.

“After the one-two punch to our community from the recent casino and gas drilling decisions, my office received many emails, phone calls and messages from constituents calling for a Southern Tier secession from New York State,” Libous said in a statement to WBNG. “While getting my constituents’ opinion on spending the $5 billion surplus was our top priority, I thought a question on secession should also be included in the survey.”

I say let them leave. See how long it takes for them to cave without access to any publicly funded/managed services.

So you want to secede because you can’t tear up Mother Earth? And if you representatives had let you work for a fracking company and your water becomes contaminated or you have earth quakes will you then sue the government for letting this be legalized? Its called critical thinking folks, you weigh the pros and cons…..money or a stable environment…….hmmm, how tough is it?

And all because of corrupt Democrat rule in New York. High taxes and low wages are the hallmarks of their leadership. Here is something that would bring jobs to rural upstate but they get a big fat no from the government. Meanwhile, next door in Pa business is booming.

And Democrat Cuomo is the governor. Nothing gets into law until he signs the bill.

getting? he is boring and, biensur, redundance is the marching tune for the dull and boring and not so smart.

      1) What is “Democrat rule “???

Like how low taxes, low public service and lower wages is the hallmark of Republic rule?

      2) Business is NOT booming in PA, which is why they kicked out the governor.
Pennsylvania was 49th in job creation under Gov. Tom Corbett, meanwhile, schools close, people lose bus service, the healthcare system declined…

Since GOP/TPers are always claiming that they have all of the answers that lead to economic prosperity, now would be the time for these mayors and their supporters to demonstrate their acumen in this area. Surely they can come up with other ways to save their economies besides fracking. That they let their concern about one issue, not being able to frack, cause them to want to secede tells me all I need to know about their ability to spur economic growth in their cities.

really well stated Maj! I was trying to say it too but got carried away – it’s too early right now to be coherent – good for you though!

sadder still is to see how well fed the demonstrators are in the foto. This kind of demand or whtever it is seems to be the product of emptiness – it won’t happen, it cannot happen – it is unhappenable – so what’s the point?
