Eddie Murphy Was To Play Cosby On SNL Reunion, Then Declined

The idea was for Eddie Murphy to play Bill Cosby during a Jeopardy skit.

[Norm]  Macdonald, who wrote the Celebrity Jeopardy segment for the anniversary show, said today on Twitter that Eddie Murphy actually came thisclose to playing Bill Cosby before ultimately declining the role.

Even so, Murphy did return to the stage for his first show in 30 years—for a minute, following a four-minute introduction from Chris Rock.

Eddie knew the proposed skit would bring the house down. Nobody knows what works on SNL better than Eddie, says Macdonald. But Murphy couldn’t bring himself to kick an icon when he’s down.
