Famed Biologist: Religion Must Be Eliminated

E. O. Wilson says religion must be eliminated to save mankind.

I would say that for the sake of human progress, the best thing we could possibly do would be to diminish, to the point of eliminating, religious faiths. But certainly not eliminating the natural yearnings of our species or the asking of these great questions.”

As long as humans fear death, we will always have religion.

The best case scenario in my mind is a surrogate deity based on some form of AI software. One that constantly corrects abhorrent behavior but does so with a loving attitude. And most importantly, the AI isn’t human with human weaknesses so it will be above pettiness like greed and prejudice.

Would the irony be too much if I just said “Amen”?

I agree that religion is nothing more than opiate for the masses, but some people need a reason to love, be kind and to do the right things. What better way to get their attention than to threaten them with eternal damnation?

There are people and societies that have no problem doing the ‘love, be kind, and to do the right things.’ without an imaginary deity. Those that can’t or won’t do it themselves, there are societal means of encouraging and/or punishing that accomplishes the same end.

ive met more people who go to church to be forgiven for the evils they do VS those who don’t go to church.
face it the message was lost a long time ago and nobody is looking for it

Spirituality needs to be stressed, and it rarely is. Our brain is hard-wired for it. An American Indian saying goes religion is for others who are afraid of going to hell. We’ve already been there.

“Religion comes from the… was going on.”…
      and so does
working as a group(lets get rid of that),
exploring & wondering(lets get rid of that),
using our intelligence rather than just brute force(lets get rid of that),

I guess just cause something has been around a while doesn’t on its own mean get rid of it…

Lets eliminate the one thing that is common among all of the civilizations, sounds like a splendid idea.
