ISIS Executes Gay Men, Stones Adulterers

Posted by | January 18, 2015 07:49 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Top Stories War & Peace

One has to wonder if Biblical fundamentals would approve.

These are obscene images. They depict two men thrown from the roof of a building as a crowd watches them fall to their deaths, and they purport to show the Islamic State (or ISIS) carrying out public executions before an audience in Iraq’s Nineveh province.

The two victims’ alleged crimes? They are believed to be gay. In another photo, [a] woman accused of being an adulterer is stoned to death, and two men charged with thievery are bound to crucifixes. Victims are commonly crucified, sometimes after they have been killed, in ISIS public executions.

ISIS-affiliated social media feeds began spreading the images Thursday. Those accounts linked to a justpasteit.com file attributed to the “Information Office of the mandate of Nineveh,” an apparent propaganda arm tied to Islamic state press releases. The public executions appear to have taken place in Mosul, the capital of the Islamic State and Iraq’s second largest city sits in Nineveh province.

Barbarism in the name of backwards medieval superstition.
To me, all religions are a scourge on mankind.
They’re all on the hook for perpetuating superstition, hate, genocide, murder, wars and tribalism….all of them.

And who do you bow down to? Surely there is someone or some thing that is your “God”? Is it mother earth? Money? Food perhaps? Yourself maybe? What makes you tick, who do YOU turn to, or what do YOU turn to in the darkest moments of YOUR pitiful life? Come on, tell us.

      • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker January 18th, 2015 at 09:42

        Only fools subjugate themselves.
However, science and nature are real and we as a society need to manage our affairs in accordance with their laws and not a bunch of Sunday hucksters.

Yep! We all know it’s the gang down at Dow Chemical who are running the soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food banks and food pantries!
It’s the scientists who get together every week to collect and send shiploads of clothes, food and needed supplies to the needy here and abroad!

        • fancypants January 18th, 2015 at 18:45

          aint that the truth !

          • burqa January 19th, 2015 at 00:31

            Sure!
When a tornado hits, the survivors congregate down at the local laboratory where they get comforted by all the chaps in lab coats!

        • burqa January 19th, 2015 at 00:29

I don’t see the homeless shelters where I live staffed by scientists. I don’t see the food pantries being run by scientists. People I know who take food and supplies out to homeless camps in the woods aren’t scientists, either.
Down at the St. George’s soup kitchen, it’s not scientists filling trays with good, hot food.
Same with a big coat and blanket drive that takes place here in the fall.
Same with an effort called “Christmas in April” where large crews show up at the homes of poor people and do landscaping, light carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair and they’ll paint the whole house in one day.
It’s not groups of scientists doing any of that.
          It’s people of faith.

KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker, if you’re ever in the Fredericksburg, Va. area and would like to see these things for yourself, I’d be glad to show you around and introduce you to the people doing these things.
I’m sure they’ll appreciate your sense of humor while meeting desperate need here. But be prepared for the moment when you realize that while you’re smirking, they’re doing….

          You can rest easy.
Esk is not about to take over the country and begin tossing gays off rooftops.
He got 5.18% of the vote in his district in conservative Oklahoma.

          http://kfor.com/2014/06/24/oklahoma-decides-2014-primary-election-results/

It amazes me the way people nowadays have lost all sense of proportion. There will always be fringe kooks in America. Some of you younger folks missed out on all the fun we had with Lyndon Larouche back in the day.
But these days, these fringe nobodies are treated as if they should be taken as seriously as elected representatives or other public figures with millions of followers.

How is it that running around being a chicken little, afraid of some impending apocalypse – in this case, the threat of our country turning into one where we toss gays off rooftops like ISIS does in the photos above – has become the fashionable thing to do?

          • William January 19th, 2015 at 00:03

            • burqa January 19th, 2015 at 00:17

The OP shows a crowd below a tall building where, in real life, a group that has beheaded many people is now throwing gays to their death. This follows many other accounts of grisly mass murder by ISIS.

And you’re bringing up quotes from Tea Party kooks who are, in real life, doing nothing of the sort?
Please read the part of my post about the lack of proportion.

I bow down to tie my shoes, so shoes?

“Surely there is someone or some thing that is your “God”?”

So, you make the assumption that a belief in a supernatural being, for whom you have no evidence, must necessarily be shared by all and sundry? Please show the science behind this sociological theory. And quit calling him Shirley.

            • burqa January 19th, 2015 at 07:02

It’s a question. It appeared you may have been in favor of this guy being censored, as if he had no right to hold an opinion contrary to yours. But I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to put words in your mouth, so I thought I’d ask for clarification of your position.

              • bpollen January 19th, 2015 at 07:10

Really? You really can determine my motivation? And my opinion of his rights? Questioning his assumptions is censorship? Any censorship being done was totally beyond my control, but thanks for thinking I am the great and powerful CENSOR.

The thing about his first amendment rights is that a statement is protected from censorship (within limits) but it is not protected from questioning, doubting, ridicule, derision, and so on.

If you have a smidgen more specificity you could employ, maybe we can discuss the issue further, but as it stands, I’m still leaning toward non-sequitur.

                • burqa January 19th, 2015 at 07:15

No, that’s why I asked. You know more than anyone whether you think someone should be prevented from offering an opinion.
I’m asking about your thoughts on the matter, not what the Constitution says.
                  So whaya think?

                  • bpollen January 19th, 2015 at 16:13

Your post doesn’t read quite the way it did when I originally asked the question. It appeared you didn’t think Wayout should be allowed to express his opinion.
I am pleased to have reached agreement with you. I find this preferable to arguing all the time.
                      1) we both agree he has a right to speak his opinion.
                      2) we both have the same regard for his opinion.
I consider this a happy ending.

I don’t know, I just remember going back to quote a phrase and it no longer read the way I had recalled. It’s possible I confused it with something else. Could be something else.
The important thing is you clarified your view and we found agreement and it seems to me to be a bit foolish to try to argue when we are in agreement on the point.

      Really?
How about taking the challenge others here seem loathe to try?
Google your local interfaith council and a half dozen or so local churches and see what they are doing where you live.
Where I live, a lot of people aren’t aware that thousands of people every day are out serving those in need. Baha’i’s, Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims are all pitching in. Over 3/4 of the food pantries are being operated by faith-based organizations here, and one finds people of faith acting on their faith running the homeless shelters. It’s pretty scary when it gets really cold, knowing there are people not in a shelter, but who are sleeping on the dirt in the woods.
If you’ll bother to get involved with efforts like this in your community, you will come across large numbers of people of faith doing the same thing.
It can reaffirm one’s faith in humanity to see so many people doing so much for those in great need.
Seeing that love for strangers in action and being around it tends to burn bigotry to a crisp within one’s heart.

Care to take the challenge and get back to us on what’s going on where you live?

During the inquisition, if a man was just suspected of homosexuality, or if a woman was suspected of adultery, no proof needed, he/she was brutally tortured by way of medieval torture devices. Iron maiden, breast ripper, Jacob’s ladder, pear of anguish – pretty sick stuff. Sounds to me they liked to kill just for the thrill of it.

Yeah, the commies did the same thing. Sometimes they would compel family members to do the torturing. Some victims didn’t have to suffer as long, being thrown alive into a furnace. When it came to torture, the 20th century commies had all the old torture devices as well as electrically-powered power tools and far better organization.
Many were worked to death and their bodies were just tossed into walls being built on canals they built.
They used poison gas as well on towns and forests where counterrevolutionaries were.
The difference is the commies killed far more.

But instead, I’ll just take your ad hominem for what it is by the rules of debate – a white flag of surrender. It is an admission you can’t attack the argument, so you have to shoot the messenger.

You just can’t stand the fact that Christians can be just as brutal as everybody else, so you have to retaliate with, “but, but the Atheists do it, too!”. How very juvenile.
                .
Once again, if it bothers you that we criticize Christian idiots, please feel free to leave. You won’t be missed.

I’m quite comfortable here and have been enjoying myself much more recently with higher-quality conversation than you seem capable of. Yes, it’s getting more fun for me, sorry.

Feel free to keep following me. That’s another thing I like – leading people. The lead sled dog is the one with the great view and the clean air to breathe. The dogs following him have only his butt to look at and rather foul air to breathe when he passes gas.
                  Enjoy!

Unlike Christians, Muslims (I’m talking about true Muslims, not the evil ones you learned about in your church). don’t insult others. Just a little fun fact for you.
                    .
You really didn’t need to demonstrate to me the arrogant nature of Christians. I already know.
                    .
And I can tell how comfortable here. Those with low self-esteem prefer belittling their fellow man because the lack of response leads them to believe they’ve won an argument that didn’t take place. It makes them feel superior. I’ve found that many feeble-minded Christians possess that “attribute”.

                      “True Muslims”?
I imagine all the different sects of Islam believe they are more correct in how they carry out their faith.
Which sect do you think are the “true Muslims”?

“Evil ones” you say I learned about in my church? Please post the church I attended you refer to. Include the name of the minister who talked about those “evil Muslims.”

Yeah, I’m enjoying myself here. This evening has been nice, especially in some of the off-board correspondence with a couple users here. I like making new friends and meeting new, interesting people and that’s just what’s taking place!
                      .
Rather than suggest you leave, I think it would be better for you to hang around in my vicinity here to learn and enjoy my positive vibes. It’ll be nice when you get to where you can have a more pleasant, adult exchange with me. The good news is I’m quite patient and forgiving. These are qualities my faith has helped me develop to a degree greater than if I’d gone it alone

Unlike the bible, the Koran has only one translation. There are different sects, but they all believe the same thing. And here’s an interesting fact. They know more about Jesus and his teachings than Christians. And unlike the way Christians view Mohammed, they have great respect for Him and his work.

“Please post the church I attended you refer to.”
It doesn’t matter. All Christian churches teach the same intolerance.

Your positive vibes? If criticizing and insulting other posters is what you call “positive vibes”, thanks but I’ll do without.

” I’m quite patient and forgiving”

Yeah, the atheist commies did the same thing. Sometimes they would compel family members to do the torturing. Some victims didn’t have to suffer as long, being thrown alive into a furnace. When it came to torture, the 20th century commies had all the old torture devices as well as electrically-powered power tools and far better organization.
Somewhere in my notes on interrogation, I have a quote from a commie torturer who worked in the Lubyanka. The quote is something like, “Give me a pair of pliers and I’ll have any prisoner confessing to being Queen Elizabeth in 30 minutes.”
The commies would torture people they knew to be innocent. They had these quotas to meet, you see, and to be a slacker could mean the torturer would end up being tortured to death himself.
Many victims were worked to death and their bodies were just tossed into walls being built on canals they built.
They used poison gas as well on towns and forests where counterrevolutionaries were.
The difference is the commies killed far more.

These days ignorance of the crimes of the commies and the scale of them relative to other such crimes seems to be growing.

OP: “One has to wonder if Biblical fundamentals would approve.”

Why don’t you ask them, Alan?
You have had a number of them on your show and presumably have their contact info.
How about getting ahold of Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and several others and then get back to us, okay?
Wouldn’t that be the fair thing to do, rather than try to draw an equivalency without evidence?

It seems to me downright obscene to first show these murders by ISIS and then quickly change the subject, rather than focus on the evil right in front of you.

    • bpollen January 19th, 2015 at 20:39

“…rather than try to draw an equivalency without evidence?”

      Well, let’s see here :

Both use a fundamentalist interpretation of their religion and strive for political power. Check.

Both are of the opinion that they should get to dictate your beliefs and behavior based upon that fundamentalism. Check.

Both frequently decry the moral failings of those that believe differently. Check.

Both use their fundamentalist beliefs as justification when calling for the killing of those they think aren’t “good enough.” Check.

Both appear to think that god is so powerless that he needs to recruit schmucks and schlemiels and psychopaths to carry out his work. Check.

      Absolutely no equivalence there.

      • bnapy January 20th, 2015 at 16:26

i’M NOT A FAN OF CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM..but if your trying to say pat robertson and company are the same as these thugs throwing people off of rooftops…you’ve got to be kidding me.

        • burqa January 20th, 2015 at 23:36

          I agree 100%

Somewhere along the line the idea was planted that we have to invent extreme , fear-based cartoons with no real relation to reality.
The other day some cat here tried to tell me the Israelis were Nazis. He was serious and I think is still confused as to why I objected strongly and didn’t seem to understand why I didn’t view the Holocaust survivor I grew up with as a Nazi. After all, they rounded up his entire extended family and sent them to the ovens. He was the only survivor, but according to this guy here, this Holocaust survivor was a Nazi.

People like that then turn around and call conservatives “crazy.”

        • bpollen January 21st, 2015 at 04:47

Well, I could bring up Scott Roeder, the putative Christian groups calling for the killing of abortion doctors, the Phineas Priesthood, the Aryan Nation, Christian Identity, pastors calling for the death of the president, of gays, of all muslims, a church thanking God for the death of others, and so on, but what would be the point? If you can’t see the string that connects rhetoric with deed, that connects the belief that God wants atrocities with committing atrocities, I have no idea how I could MAKE you see it.

          • burqa January 21st, 2015 at 07:20

On one hand you have some big mouths whose ideas are regarded in real life as the feverish rantings of fringe kooks and who have very seldom had their ideas acted upon. These people have no power, no real influence in this country.
On the other hand there is a whole army that has taken over large areas of 2 countries and has slaughtered thousands of people. As we see in the OP, crowds turn out to see people accused of being gay tossed off a tall building.
That’s not happening here and will not.

            Resist the fear-mongers.
Thinking that evangelical kooks are going to take over is Alex Jones – type conspiracy stuff.

        • burqa January 21st, 2015 at 07:38

No, that’s the wacky logic prevalent in the herd these days.
Fear has seized upon them and they’re reacting like Alex Jones drones with the same sort of logic.
They really do see them as equivalent and you’ve got a job on your hands convincing them their fears are overblown. They’ve shoved all their chip to the middle of the table on fear and staying frightened. To keep that up they have to pretend that there is an army sweeping hither and yon in our fair land, tossing people off rooftops and mass-murdering large numbers of others.

It’s not enough to club Robertson & co.s ideas, they have to draw the most extreme implication possible. There’s just no sense of propriety or balance. They are so heavily invested on being terrified they can’t see straight….

      • burqa January 20th, 2015 at 23:28

Did you see the pictures of the two guys being thrown off the tall building? Murders like that, and previous mass murders by ISIS, including beheadings of journalists and aid workers are what brought ISIS to prominence in the news.
There is no equivalence between the murders carried out by ISIS and wacky fundamentalists here in America.

Good grief, this is one of the bad effects of the internet, in that we see such a lack of perspective or critical thinking to where some of us see no difference between people carrying out horrifying torture, maiming and murder of thousands of people and some kook evangelist in America.
I understand the occasional need for hyperbole, but use of the figure needs to be recognized as such, rather than be accepted as literal speech.

There is no need to go to such ridiculous extremes, because they not only undermine the argument, they undermine the credibility of the person making it.
The ideas of people like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, Franklin Graham and others can be opposed and rebutted successfully without resorting to wild-eyed fear-based fiction.

Christian Fundamentalists are simply the latest in a long line of closed-minded and hateful people using the Bible to justify horrendous acts. 1099. Jerusalem. “Christians” slaughter over 60,000 residents of various religions, including Christians. 10,000 on the Temple Mount alone. Nearly every man, woman, child and animal. 1209. Beziers, in the Languedoc of France. 15,000 to 20,000 Christians slaughtered over doctrinal differences. The Inquisition, Europe from the 13th to 14th century. Up to 350,000 killed. Need I go on? Your whitewash failed to cover Christian feet bathed in blood.

The ones guilty of these murders are the murderers, not the Christians you want to smear.
    Bigotry is so ugly.

Check.

      Absolutely no equivalence there.

i’M NOT A FAN OF CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM..but if your trying to say pat robertson and company are the same as these thugs throwing people off of rooftops…you’ve got to be kidding me.

        • burqa January 21st, 2015 at 00:36

        • burqa January 21st, 2015 at 08:38

      • burqa January 21st, 2015 at 00:28

One has to wonder if Biblical fundamentals would approve.

I don’t recall anywhere in biblical times where the accuser has to disguise themselves. Koran thumping takes another bow

What do they do to rapists like themselves??

    • bpollen January 19th, 2015 at 20:27

Considering that they think women are chattel, I would guess something like “Achmed! Glad you could join us!”
