Democrats To Push Paid Family Leave

Democrats plan to elevate the issue of paid family leave, a policy that is in place in most of the developed world, as they turn their eyes toward the next election:

The Obama administration has for months called upon Congress to require employers to offer paid leave, with Labor Secretary Tom Perez relentlessly pressing the case to anyone who will listen.

And while potential Democratic presidential candidates, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), have voiced support for the proposal, the party has yet to elevate paid leave to the top tier of its policy agenda.

That will soon change, according to Democratic operatives, administration officials and others on the political left.

Hopefully the Democrats will start acting more like democrats and quit conceding to the republicans when they shouldn’t. We need strong Democrats that actually stand for progressive ideals and are willing to fight for them or we need a new party that will.

and they should speak out loudly and non stop every time the republicans offer the absurd or block the good.

The good is stopping spending and letting the people keep more of their own money.

Because People in America want a certain standard, but they don’t want to pay for it.

    • Tim Coolio January 14th, 2015 at 17:50

We need more FDR democrats but sadly they don’t seem to exist much any more, people are hungry for real progressives that fight for the middle class.

real family values, we have become money and power worshippers. Hell the right complains because children up to age 26 can be on their parents insurance and use living in your parents home after 18 as an insult

Great chart, it shows the GOP race to the bottom.

How many miscarriages (dead babies) occur due to pregnant women forced to work, needing the money, right up to the due date?
How many women are jailed for ANY amount of drugs, above 0.00000%, after a miscarriage in certain redneck Red State hellholes?

    • John Tarter January 13th, 2015 at 12:59

      None!

    • Tim Coolio January 14th, 2015 at 17:48

If the Repubs really were pro-life they would be anti-war and pro-universal health care.

“Right to Life” rally should be excoriating baby-hating Republicans if they oppose this.

why this proposal after the white house has lost any congressional control/ My little country has silly things like paid vacation, superb single payer health and higher education for the same cost as a hamburger – on some levels the usa is prehistoric when it concerns its citizens well being.

And who gets to pay for this lovely little scheme? Oh that’s right, the Dems will either add another burden onto the employer to pay for this (who will then quickly raise the price of whatever they make to offset the cost). Or, the Dems will just raise everybody’s taxes to pay for it (as if we already don’t pay enough). Or they will go out and borrow the money (thus increasing the national debt). Unbelievable!

    • OldLefty January 13th, 2015 at 13:44

The employers SHOULD pay for it, as they make record profits.

It’s amazing how much we USED to be willing to pay for, back in the days when we built a prosperous middle class that became the envy of the world.

Where were they with IDEAS during the campaign? Did they just know they were going to lose so they didn’t even try?
I swear, why don’t Democrats invest in things like radio and TV stations?
Conservatives are willing to spend whatever it takes, including losing money on a daily basis if it means winning.
    Where’s our Rupert Murdoch?

    • Tim Coolio January 14th, 2015 at 17:45

On satellite radio we have liberal talk coast to coast and from Key West to Alaska.
