Curt Schilling Says Being A Conservative Keeps Him Out Of Hall Of Fame

Posted by | January 8, 2015 10:47 | Filed under: Contributors Mark Quincy Adams Opinion Politics Top Stories

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling was eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, but didn’t get in. However, he is meeting one of the primary requirements of being a Hall of Fame Conservative: playing the victim. You see, despite his record in the Majors (and some controversy about possibly faking his famous bloody sock), he believes, without question, that he is worthy of being elected into Cooperstown. Since he wasn’t, he reasons it must be because of his political beliefs.

The former pitcher, who was denied entry into Cooperstown for a third straight year Tuesday, claimed that being a high-profile Republican caused some voters to leave him off their ballots. Schilling hinted as much Wednesday in an interview with Boston radio station WEEI by suggesting that newly elected Hall of Famer John Smoltz got the necessary votes for induction because of his supposed Democratic leanings. “[Smoltz] is a Hall-of-Famer. And I think the other big thing is that I think he’s a Democrat, and so… I know that as a Republican, that there’s some people who really don’t like that,” Schilling said.

Never mind the fact that Smoltz has donated to the GOP. No need for conservatives to deal with facts, of course. If Schilling needs to have a big sad and play the victim, that’s fine.  Maybe we can send this guy some cheese to go with his whine.

Personally, I hope it’s true! I hope he’s not in the HoF precisely because he’s a conservative fool. That seems to be a extremely good reason to keep him out. The more conservatives who get publicly shamed, the better.

    • Larry Schmitt January 8th, 2015 at 15:18

In my case, it’s because he’s a fool, not because he’s a conservative fool.

Typical red sux player, too bad he never played for a real team like my Yakees

Red Sox fan here. Although I will dispute your characterization of the Yankees as a “real” team (teams are grown not purchased), I cannot dispute their history of championships.

I will say that despite losing in game 7, the Red Sox will go down in history as one of the participants in what many baseball historians consider the greatest World Series ever played; 1975 Reds vs Red Sox.

When it comes to baseball memories, I will take Pudge Fisks’ game 6 home run over anything the Yankees have provided over the past 100 years or however long they have been around.

        And what was Jeter???

        • arc99 January 8th, 2015 at 12:55

In a word, Jeter was one of the few home-grown Yankees in modern times and a superb representative of MLB.

The standing ovation he received at Fenway in his last appearance testifies to that.

          • rg9rts January 8th, 2015 at 12:56

as long as we keep the record straight.

I teared up when I saw that.

      • Larry Schmitt January 8th, 2015 at 15:21

For 102 years as the Yankees, 10years before that as the Highlanders, and two years before that as the original Baltimore Orioles. And to remind you, Fisk won game 6 but they lost the Series.

Ugh, you people are everywhere lol. I grew up with my mothers side being Red Sox fans and my dads side being Yankees fan. You would not want to come to a family picnic, fists were actually thrown and by adults no less. I always watched the games for both sides and I did follow the Sox closer at first, I love underdogs, However, when I seen the way the Red Sox treated Mo Vaughn, I reconsidered and chose the Yankees. The management acted like he wasn’t a leader of their team and you could smell racist ideas circulating around their club house, especially from the management. I never looked back. My Jeter has retired but I am now forever a Yankee fan.

Six weeks exactly, Phillies pitchers and catchers (does anyone still use the term “battery”?) report.

EDIT: But to be clear, Schilling’s whining is laughable.
