Could Huckabee Help Jeb?

Harry Enten argues that Mike Huckabee is the perfect conservative candidate for whoever the leading moderate Republican contender is.  He can win in small conservative states but makes little headway in the larger states.

By entering the race, Huckabee would make it that much more likely that a more mainstream candidate will win the nomination by dominating in those states that McCain and Romney did. Huckabee will probably be strong enough to take some conservative voters, but not strong enough to have a high chance of winning.

Huckabee just announced he is quitting his job/show at Fox…
Could this mean he is considering a run?..
Then again, running for office while working for Fox never seemed to be a problem.

I get the runs…think I could work at FAUX too??

It has come to the point where I seldom expect logic from the right, but this one has me utterly confused.

If the most conservative candidates cannot win the GOP primaries in states that matter, where the primary electorate consists mostly of the hard right partisan base, why in the world do they think they can win the Presidency?

Many of them are not running to win but rather to increase their profiles (and maybe their earning power). If you want to be kinder (why would you?) then perhaps they feel that having the platform of a campaign will spread the word and increase the attractiveness of their views (ala Goldwater). As for their followers, they are largely being fooled.

Jeb already looks like the least offensive of the potential republican field, so the more clowns in the car, the more he’s gonna come out looking like the driver rather than just another clown.
