The teenager posted a photo of an air rifle with text the police took as threatening.

The 17-year-old has been charged with making a terrorist threat for a Dec. 22 tweet that showed an image of an air rifle pointed at a police car with the caption: “Should I do it? They don’t care for a black male anyways!”

A lawyer is not listed for the youth in online jail records. His bond is set at $500.

The Fort Worth Police Department Homeland Security/Intelligence Unit launched an investigation and determined the photo was a “threat of violence toward police officers,” according to a press release.

“It’s not a joke. When we feel threatened, we will act on it,” Fort Worth Police spokeswoman Tamara Pena said at a news conference.

Although I can’t disagree with his text, it’s a threat. There is a distinct difference between one’s first amendment rights, civil disobedience and threats. It’s a $500 bond, so I’m guessing they don’t see him as a serious threat. It’s unfortunate and I hope this is resolved without ruining this young man’s future.

And yet how many people have publicly threatened the president on various sites, and not been charged with anything? Could it have anything to do with the fact that they’re white?

When we feel threatened, we will act on it

Yeah, moron, we’ve noticed. That’s kind of the point.
