13-Year-Long Afghanistan War Ends; No One Notices

The war in Afghanistan ended today. You’d think that would get lots of attention.

The United States and NATO formally ended their war in Afghanistan on Sunday with a ceremony at their military headquarters in Kabul after 13 years as the insurgency they fought for more than a decade remains ferocious and deadly.

The low-key ceremony was arranged secretly due to the threat of Taliban strikes on the Afghan capital, the target of repeated suicide bombings in recent years.

See? The war was so successful that they had to hide the announcement of its ending for fear of hostilities.

Gen. John Campbell, commander of ISAF, rolled up and sheathed the green and white ISAF flag and unfurled the flag of the new international mission, called Resolute Support.

‘Resolute Support will serve as the bedrock of an enduring partnership’ between NATO and Afghanistan, Campbell told an audience of Afghan and international military officers and officials, as well as diplomats and journalists.

He paid tribute to the international and Afghan troops who have died fighting the insurgency, saying: ‘The road before us remains challenging but we will triumph.’

From Jan. 1, the new mission will provide training and support for Afghanistan’s military, with the U.S. accounting for almost 11,000 members of the residual force.

Oh, so the war is ending but we’re not really out of there.

I can’t take full credit for this but “After a 13 year engagement both Afghanistan and the US have agreed to break up and start invading and destroying other countries” Although the US still has the right of “drunken booty calls”.

I suggest we take Dwight’s advise and now use this opportunity to downsize our over-bloated military just like every other sane nation did after WWII. We’ll save trillions of tax dollars and become stronger if we spend some of it developing new technologies.
Of course rightwing panty-wastes will scream like babies, but they’re so paranoid and sacred of their own shadows that they can’t sleep without an Uzi under their pillow anyway.

Once OBL was taken care of we should have shut down all aggression in the M.E. and rebuilt our infrastructure.
