NRA Supporters Launch Vicious, Misogynistic Twitter Attack On Gun Reform Leader

Posted by | December 27, 2014 15:15 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

When Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, was blocked by the NRA on Twitter yesterday, she tweeted it. It shall come as a surprise to no one ever that that was met with a slew of vicious misogynistic remarks by NRA supporters.

Even though the NRA claims Watts is an insignificant threat to their organization, they found it necessary to block her on social media.

The mother of 5 frightens them that much. She’s a beautiful and intelligent woman, so naturally, she’s a threat.

It started with this tweet.

Naturally, that innocuous tweet became a platform to attack the Gun Sense advocate by NRA supporters. The hashtag #ImBlockedByShannonWatts started trending on Twitter.
The alleged human responsible for creating that hashtag is none other than Julie Golob, world shooting champion and author of the book “Shooting While Pregnant.” No, really.

So Ms. Watts is retweeting some vulgar responses to her one tweet.

Oh, this is such a winning strategy.

And this tweet by Katie Pavlich gave the onslaught some legs:

NRA supporters, I have some advice for you. If you want to appear to be female-friendly, don’t call a woman a “Bitch”, a “cunt”, “twat’ or tell her she needs to “get back in the kitchen.”

Include “bimbo” to the list of things not to call a woman.

Ms. Watts isn’t too worried about the vicious attack.

Big thanks to my pal out there for collecting the tweets. You rock.

I’m guessing you have no idea ‘U.S. gun owners shoot 22-43 more friends & family than any intruder.’-FBI/CDC. And Darwinism is why U.S. gun owner households plummeted from 1970’s 50% to 30% in 2008. The 30% of U.S. Gun owner households commit 2/3 of all American Homicides. Gun nuts are killers.

    • william reed December 27th, 2014 at 19:30

Care to cite this? Because, thats clearly not true. There are approximately 150 million gun owners in this country. You’re talking LIKELIHOOD-thats like you’re 10x more likely to drown in a pool-if you have a pool. Right? Does that mean you WILL drown in a pool? Spinning numbers is for idiots. Sorry.

      • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:36

Those “numbers” represent actual dead people, people who died unnecessarily, leaving behind grieving family and friends, widows, widowers and orphans.

      • Obewon December 27th, 2014 at 20:59

You’ve got zip. 1/3 of USA’s households own guns today, but in-fact do commit 2/3+ of all U.S. homicides. That’s why 2/3 of American households aren’t gun owners, or paranoids to dim and afraid to call 911. Share of Homes With Guns 34% in 2012, Shows 4-Decade Decline from 1970’s 49%. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/10/us/rate-of-gun-ownership-is-down-survey-shows.html?pagewanted=all

Every day in the U.S., an average of 289 people are shot. I like to call it ‘Good Reichlanders mit government regulated ammo’.

’cause anyone with the slightest explosive training will realize that a bullet is merely a directional explosive device.

Now, the argument is simply reduced to the size of the bullet and where the hell that’s spelled out in the second amendment? Denying the individual US Citizen the right to tote around a Soviet made piece of luggage due to the ‘explosive contents’ is no different than denying them the right to tote around ammo. In a WELL REGULATED MILITIA you don’t have that conflict – in the NRA made up BS of UNREGULATED MILITIAS as the individual sees fit, you do.

      • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 20:17

The ‘Well Regulated Militia’ is, by definition, under government control, supervision, and regulated. It fact, the arms are kept in an armory under lock and key.
The rabid NRA types would balk at any of those controls.

Look at the positive side of this folks. As long as these NRA members are on twitter and posting comments on different sites. They are not playing with their guns! So it is a win for the lady they are bombarding. Mission accomplished right now.

I don’t care one way or another about other people’s comments. Those comments are their own to defend. I’m speaking about the fake Shannon watts who wants to come together to find real common sense solutions. You don’t get that by blocking people trying to explain where they stand. Just to find a starting point impossible because big sides are too hard headed to listen. But for me, if both sides are too hard headed to listen, at least I’ll stand with the NRA because at least I can understand their stance.

              • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:03

She’s making it sound like the NRA are running scared because they blocked her. And she doesn’t mention how many people she’s blocked from her own site. I don’t know if this is hypocrisy but omitting truth is as good as lying. And for her hypocrisy, a simple proof is “we just want background checks”, and the popular “we don’t want to take your guns”. But their agenda is an assault weapons ban. I have 10. So she advocates taking my guns then?

                • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:05

Why in hell do you need, or even want, TEN assault weapons? They have no real world use other than mowing down lots of people and should be banned.

                  • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:07

See the real agenda comes out. I own 0 assault weapons. I have 10 semi automatic rifles that are patterned after their military assault weapon counterparts. But to the anti gun people, they are assault weapons because they look like the real thing.

                    • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:10

So TEN semi automatic weapons makes some kind of sense to you. Expecting the zombie invasion?

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:08

                      I collect them. Scar 16 and 17, fs2000, ps90, 4 ar-15s, ak47, SKS, Tavor and and ar pistol. Oops, sorry, not 10 I have 12 ;-)

                    • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 19:16

So you’re a liar. Okay, so now we know how you choose to engage in a very real and needed debate.

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 21:05

I’m not a lair, I still have 10 semi auto rifles. Some groups of people call them “assault weapons” incorrectly, but they’re the same rifles no matter what you call them.

                    • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 21:24

But you stated I have 10 assault weapons, you did not say I have rifles that people mis-classify. I believe you made a previous statement about lack of disclosure is the same as dishonest – that was you wasn’t it?

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:05

I don’t know how to reply to that. And maybe that ultimately is some of the anti gun crowd’s confusion. They are not “assault weapons” in the true sense of the term. They are “assault weapons” as most anti gun politicians and anti gun people see them. They are just semi automatic rifles. It just depends on who you speak to if they are called “assault weapons” or not. So are they assault weapons if some people call them that and some people don’t? It’s the same rifle, it’s just a term some people use to describe them. They are no more dangerous that any other semi auto rifle if a madman gets hold of one. If Adam Lanza had used a semi automatic hunting rifle, the same amount of bullets would have been fired in the same amount if time. Just because it was black, named “bushmaster” and had a pistol grip, that didn’t make it more or less deadly.

                    • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 20:13

I used to trade comments with a guy that bragged about his guns. Handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Including several ‘AR-15’s, He would NOT admit to owning the cheap conversion kits that make them full auto. Total, at the time, over 40 guns.

                    • jasperjava December 28th, 2014 at 01:27

What kind of crazy mass-murderer psycho-killer wannabe needs ten assault rifles?

I hope the police are keeping an eye on you. You’re *this* close from being the next Adam Lanza, no doubt.

                    • Jay Cee December 28th, 2014 at 01:46

I think liberal policies shut down the old school mental institutions that Adam Lanza would definitely have been confined to. Instead he was given Psych drugs and allowed to live among us. Then when something went wrong, the blame falls on the NRA and all other gun owners who own the same types of guns. I don’t have a scary bushmaster. It’s too low quality garbage for me. A lot of people own ar15s, it’s a common rifle. And btw, if you really check the numbers, you’ll find more people killed with hands and feet than killed by all rifles (including all mass murders). In fact in the VT mass shooting, the shooter used 2 handguns, and one was a .22 caliber handgun that most people scoff at for home defense . He killed more than sandy hook. But in the wrong hands, any gun can be an issue. That guy should have been institutionalized also but alas the same issue.

                • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 19:15

What on earth do you need an assault weapon for? Seriously, mental health care sounds like a better choice.

                • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 19:21

“she doesn’t mention how many people she’s blocked from her own site. ”

OMFG, read the comments in the post. Do you see what she deals with on a daily basis? Of course they’re banned. Now, explain to me how that’s the same as the NRA blocking her? Did she block them? No, so it’s not the same.

                  • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 21:03

That’s not the point, they can still block those comments and people, which would happen no matter what. But why block the ones that aren’t insulting and just offer a different point of view…like you did? You think you’re all powerful to stop people from getting their viewpoints heard, but you, like Shannon…failed.

                    • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 21:13

So if a subset of a larger group insult and call names, and I’m part of the larger group, but not part of the subset, I need to say I’m sorry? I don’t apologize for things I’m not a part of, and if I called someone a name, I wouldn’t apologize because if I said it I meant it. I don’t buy into the who “if you say something offensive on twitter and too many people see it, you have to delete the tweet and apologize”. But I didn’t call anyone any names and didn’t insult anyone. I got under one guys skin by donating some money to the NRA, but I would have done that anyways. And I chose the tote bag anyways :-P

        • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:02

And that is equivalent to the incredibly childish and nasty behavior of your crazed NRA supporters?
She is an individual, and somehow I doubt the claim of respectful comments being barred, but the NRA is an organization dedicated to getting as many guns in as many hands as possible with no thought to the deadly consequences.

                • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 20:05

Why in hell do you need, or even want, TEN assault weapons? They have no real world use other than mowing down lots of people and should be banned.

                  • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 20:07

See the real agenda comes out. I own 0 assault weapons. I have 10 semi automatic rifles that are patterned after their military assault weapon counterparts. But to the anti gun people, they are assault weapons because they look like the real thing.

                    • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 20:10

So TEN semi automatic weapons makes some kind of sense to you. Expecting the zombie invasion?

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 23:08

                      I collect them. Scar 16 and 17, fs2000, ps90, 4 ar-15s, ak47, SKS, Tavor and and ar pistol. Oops, sorry, not 10 I have 12 ;-)

                    • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 20:16

So you’re a liar. Okay, so now we know how you choose to engage in a very real and needed debate.

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:05

I’m not a lair, I still have 10 semi auto rifles. Some groups of people call them “assault weapons” incorrectly, but they’re the same rifles no matter what you call them.

                    • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 22:24

But you stated I have 10 assault weapons, you did not say I have rifles that people mis-classify. I believe you made a previous statement about lack of disclosure is the same as dishonest – that was you wasn’t it?

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 23:05

                    • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 21:13

I used to trade comments with a guy that bragged about his guns. Handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Including several ‘AR-15’s, He would NOT admit to owning the cheap conversion kits that make them full auto. Total, at the time, over 40 guns.

                    • jasperjava December 28th, 2014 at 02:27

What kind of crazy mass-murderer psycho-killer wannabe needs ten assault rifles?

I hope the police are keeping an eye on you. You’re *this* close from being the next Adam Lanza, no doubt.

                    • Jay Cee December 28th, 2014 at 02:46

                • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 20:15

What on earth do you need an assault weapon for? Seriously, mental health care sounds like a better choice.

                • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 20:21

“she doesn’t mention how many people she’s blocked from her own site. ”

OMFG, read the comments in the post. Do you see what she deals with on a daily basis? Of course they’re banned. Now, explain to me how that’s the same as the NRA blocking her? Did she block them? No, so it’s not the same.

                  • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:03

That’s not the point, they can still block those comments and people, which would happen no matter what. But why block the ones that aren’t insulting and just offer a different point of view…like you did? You think you’re all powerful to stop people from getting their viewpoints heard, but you, like Shannon…failed.

                    • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 22:13

Like I did on private property? You are not allowed to be disrespectful to others here. Follow the rules or go. It’s a simple process.

                      Deal with it.

                    • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:58

Where was I disrespectful? One guy told me to go kill myself, another guy to me to f off, and never once did I call anyone any names or say anything like they said to me.

Thee NRA is run by a bunch of freaks, Mr. LaPeirre is a nasty piece of work, of course all the kickbacks from his gun-manufacturing masters doesn’t hurt and the sheer megalomania of commanding so much attention.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:56

What in hell is wrong with people like you? Why do you persist in such anti-social behavior? Do you think its somehow manly to wave your guns around? Is it paranoia, feelings of inadequacy?

I’m trying to get you a free hat or a coolie. If you wanted the pen all you had to do was ask you didn’t have to insult me.

Wayne LaPew is a draft dodger with mental problems that has no business owning a gun. Yet he makes millions a year defending the indefensible.

“I don’t care one way or another about other people’s comments.”

Oh but you should care. You should care a lot. These are NRA supporters. By not saying one word denouncing their comments, you have supported them.

          You must be proud.

          • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:55

Go on the moms demand action Facebook page, post a pro gun comment respectfully as possible, check back in a half hour and see if it’s still there. And you will be blocked from commenting further.

        • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 20:02

And that is equivalent to the incredibly childish and nasty behavior of your crazed NRA supporters?
She is an individual, and somehow I doubt the claim of respectful comments being barred, but the NRA is an organization dedicated to getting as many guns in as many hands as possible with no thought to the deadly consequences.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 20:12

I was respectful maybe they didn’t even bother reading my comment and just banned me by my avatar.

  11. william reed December 27th, 2014 at 18:27

Did she mention she blocked the NRA, and hundreds of thousands of gun owners, previous to this? No? Huh. So, a spin doctor lawyer tells the story you want to hear. Wow-who’d have thought!!! Seriously, the entire anti gun movement is dead. Of the $50 million spent, you managed to get 2-of 37-candidates elected. Dead. Dead. Dead.

But they got the background check law!!! But….aw… There’s no real way to enforce it….

Dead. Dead. Dead. Just like those little children who were massacred, that you don’t give a f#ck about. Just like those kids who are “accidentally” shot in their homes because idiots like you are too irresponsible to own guns.

      • william reed December 27th, 2014 at 18:39

And, thats where you’re wrong. Because, unlike the anti gun crowd, which wanted MORE gun free zones-I actually lobbied for solutions. I didnt assign blame. If you want a page with people just agreeing with you (which is what MDA is doing on their facebook page), what’s the point? Is it just some ego trip to ban people and listen to yourself speak?

            • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 21:48

      • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 18:42

Or dead dead dead like all the people killed in drunk driving accidents, yet not everyone who drives a car is accused of being a killer. Or chastised because the car they drive goes to fast and cars don’t need to go 165mph, etc. When car accidents happen, the drivers are blames. No mention of the car. Anything with guns… It’s the gun that caused the problem.

        • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 18:45

Guns are designed to kill, that is their primary function, cars are designed to transport things. You gun freaks care only about your stupid little killing machines that amplify your power and make you feel powerful, not to mention the anti-government (THEY’RE COMMING FOR OUR GUNS!!!) paranoia.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 18:54

What what guns are made for are of no consequence. Hammers aren’t made for murder yet they are used for murder. Cars are made for transportation yet they are misused. The point is, no matter what the object, the people misusing it are the issue.

            • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 18:59

Bullshit, the one and only function of a gun is to kill something and there is no equivalent testing for the use of such a deadly device. The NRA insists that any crazy freak can go out and get a gun and unlimited ammo so he can go and mow down as many people as he can. You simply don’t care about the human suffering, some of which could be greatly reduced by having sensible gun laws.

            • OldLefty December 27th, 2014 at 19:14

What what guns are made for are of no consequence. Hammers aren’t

              _______

              Yes, it is.
Piercing flesh is 99% of the purpose of guns, and the guns that people are the most concerned with are designed to kill a lot people in a very short time.

At least with a hammer, the victim has a fighting chance, an one rarely if ever hears of anyone getting maimed or killed because of a hammer accident.

            • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 21:01

Common people say common things. You think you’re so much better than
the NRA and you tell someone to commit suicide. You realize the most
deaths caused by guns are suicides right?

                  • Carla Akins December 28th, 2014 at 12:15

Inviting people to kill themselves is an implied threat. I did not ban you – I asked you and several others to dial it back. Threats in any form are in violation of the TOS and they will be deleted. Keep it up and you’ll be banned, regardless of where you stand on the issue.

          • whatthe46 December 27th, 2014 at 18:58

            exactly.

        • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 18:46

Actually if you drive drunk and kill someone – they do call you a murderer and there are very specific laws on the books to deal with this issue. Auto deaths are in decline and have been for several decades due to extensive regulation and requirements.

However, practically anyone can be a gun owner with no proficiency test. Your comment is simply invalid.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 18:51

Really? I’m reading on the local news just last night a drunk driver cause an accident that killed several people. He was driving on a suspended license after having been arrested several times for drunk driving.

            • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 18:52

Blame the good ole boy legislatures that write toothless laws. In too many parts of this country “boys will be boys” is an excuse for all kinds of bad behavior.

              • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 20:04

And the NRA, a terrorist organization, lobbies the governments to create loop holes you can drive a semi through in those laws. That’s why they aren’t enforced or rarely enforced, or worse can’t be enforced.

            • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 18:54

And did they refer to him as a great guy? Or will he go to jail? At least twice a week a read about a toddler and a firearm, it’s always “an accident” and no charges are expected – what the fuck do you call that? Some people are too damn stupid to own a gun, period. The fact that no qualifications are required is ridiculous and unacceptable.

              Latest car vs gun figures:
              http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/07/16/gun-deaths-versus-car-deaths/?_r=2

              • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 21:13

He didn’t go to jail 3 times, and finally now maybe he will after he’s killed someone. The point being is that punishing everyone for the actions of some, doesn’t make any sense. Do you think a parent who leaves a gun around and the child dies wants that to happen? That they set out for that to happen? That’s another dispicable thing that moms demand action did, that actively called for parents whose children died from getting shot in accidents to be prosecuted. As if the punishment of losing a child wasn’t enough.

                • edmeyer_able December 27th, 2014 at 21:36

We’re hoping it will wake some people up and maybe they’ll think twice before their child is next, but guess what …it happens the very next day.

But it’s ok for your readers to tell people who don’t like in your liberal test tube to f off or insult them. Or ban them for doing nothing but trying to have a discussion. If you want a page with people just agreeing with you (which is what MDA is doing on their facebook page), what’s the point? Is it just some ego trip to ban people and listen to yourself speak?

            • Anomaly 100 December 27th, 2014 at 22:48

Try to keep up. We haven’t banned anyone who is reasonable. You’re here aren’t you?

So why are you complaining if you haven’t been banned. Feelings of persecution much?

              • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:52

You did ban me! It’s just your banning powers don’t mean much on the internet :-)

Oh so you like our site so much that you made another Disqus username?

You’re not welcome here anymore then.

        • SoTiredOfPolitics December 27th, 2014 at 23:19

      • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:42

Or dead dead dead like all the people killed in drunk driving accidents, yet not everyone who drives a car is accused of being a killer. Or chastised because the car they drive goes to fast and cars don’t need to go 165mph, etc. When car accidents happen, the drivers are blames. No mention of the car. Anything with guns… It’s the gun that caused the problem.

        • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:45

Guns are designed to kill, that is their primary function, cars are designed to transport things. You gun freaks care only about your stupid little killing machines that amplify your power and make you feel powerful, not to mention the anti-government (THEY’RE COMMING FOR OUR GUNS!!!) paranoia.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:54

What what guns are made for are of no consequence. Hammers aren’t made for murder yet they are used for murder. Cars are made for transportation yet they are misused. The point is, no matter what the object, the people misusing it are the issue.

            • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:59

Bullshit, the one and only function of a gun is to kill something and there is no equivalent testing for the use of such a deadly device. The NRA insists that any crazy freak can go out and get a gun and unlimited ammo so he can go and mow down as many people as he can. You simply don’t care about the human suffering, some of which could be greatly reduced by having sensible gun laws.

            • OldLefty December 27th, 2014 at 20:14

What what guns are made for are of no consequence. Hammers aren’t

              _______

              Yes, it is.
Piercing flesh is 99% of the purpose of guns, and the guns that people are the most concerned with are designed to kill a lot people in a very short time.

At least with a hammer, the victim has a fighting chance, an one rarely if ever hears of anyone getting maimed or killed because of a hammer accident.

            • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:01

Common people say common things. You think you’re so much better than
the NRA and you tell someone to commit suicide. You realize the most
deaths caused by guns are suicides right?

              • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 22:06

You are correct, sorry we missed that. It has been a hectic evening.

              • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 22:11

Just think about NRA board member and gun nut extraordinaire, Ted Nugent. You really think he represent decency? The man who threatened Obama and Clinton, the man who said he would be dead or in jail is Obama was re-elected?

              • Steve Ford December 28th, 2014 at 07:35

And JASON…. HONEY… I don’t think I’m “BETTER THAN THE NRA”… I just KNOW that I’m BETTER than YOU!!! I don’t NEED a “PENIS ENHANCEMENT” to make me feel GOOD about myself!!! Now go play with your little GUN and CUDDLE with it!!!

              • Carla Akins December 28th, 2014 at 07:47

Please stop asking people to take themselves out, implied threats are not tolerated. Your comments will be removed.

                • Steve Ford December 28th, 2014 at 12:56

IMPLIED THREATS??? When did I threaten ANYONE???

                  • Carla Akins December 28th, 2014 at 13:15

Inviting people to kill themselves is an implied threat. I did not ban you – I asked you and several others to dial it back. Threats in any form are in violation of the TOS and they will be deleted. Keep it up and you’ll be banned, regardless of where you stand on the issue.

          • whatthe46 December 27th, 2014 at 19:58

            exactly.

        • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 19:46

Actually if you drive drunk and kill someone – they do call you a murderer and there are very specific laws on the books to deal with this issue. Auto deaths are in decline and have been for several decades due to extensive regulation and requirements.

However, practically anyone can be a gun owner with no proficiency test. Your comment is simply invalid.

          • Jason Costa December 27th, 2014 at 19:51

Really? I’m reading on the local news just last night a drunk driver cause an accident that killed several people. He was driving on a suspended license after having been arrested several times for drunk driving.

            • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:52

Blame the good ole boy legislatures that write toothless laws. In too many parts of this country “boys will be boys” is an excuse for all kinds of bad behavior.

              • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 21:04

And the NRA, a terrorist organization, lobbies the governments to create loop holes you can drive a semi through in those laws. That’s why they aren’t enforced or rarely enforced, or worse can’t be enforced.

            • Carla Akins December 27th, 2014 at 19:54

And did they refer to him as a great guy? Or will he go to jail? At least twice a week a read about a toddler and a firearm, it’s always “an accident” and no charges are expected – what the fuck do you call that? Some people are too damn stupid to own a gun, period. The fact that no qualifications are required is ridiculous and unacceptable.

              Latest car vs gun figures:
              http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/07/16/gun-deaths-versus-car-deaths/?_r=2

              • Jason December 27th, 2014 at 22:13

He didn’t go to jail 3 times, and finally now maybe he will after he’s killed someone. The point being is that punishing everyone for the actions of some, doesn’t make any sense. Do you think a parent who leaves a gun around and the child dies wants that to happen? That they set out for that to happen? That’s another dispicable thing that moms demand action did, that actively called for parents whose children died from getting shot in accidents to be prosecuted. As if the punishment of losing a child wasn’t enough.

                • edmeyer_able December 27th, 2014 at 22:36

We’re hoping it will wake some people up and maybe they’ll think twice before their child is next, but guess what …it happens the very next day.

    • Red Mann December 27th, 2014 at 19:39

You, of course, have a citation to back this up, right? Please show it and while you’re at it show her equivalent comments about the NRA and its backers.

  13. Matt W December 27th, 2014 at 18:59

The NRA is N-ot R-elevant A-nymore. The vast majority of America favors background checks and common sense regulations. When the gun lobby takes your own words and throws them back at you (calling Watts a “clown,” or “not self aware,” terms which more accurately describe the NRA), that means they have no words of their own, no rational or articulate responses. For every gun nut, there are a couple other Americans who, silently, will vote to curb the NRA and the culture it espouses.

LOL I love it when people use terms like ‘vast majority’, as they have no actual facts to back them up.
Everything they’ve tried to push has been debunked and came back to bite them in the end.
As I said. You folks are an evolutionary dead end.

      • Dwendt44 December 27th, 2014 at 20:22

Reliable surveys put those that support background checks at 85-92%. That includes 75% of NRA members.

        • The Stig December 27th, 2014 at 20:50

Yeah, those numbers you people continue to quote are a complete farce.

How many background checks would have stopped the Sandy Hook shooting? NOT ONE. How many background checks would stop some gang banger from buying a stolen gun from some thug on a corner? NOT ONE. How many background checks would have stopped the Mexican cartel from killing Border Patrol agents with GUNS GIVEN TO THEM BY THE BATF?!?!?!?!

Background checks are a ruse and literally just another way to restrict law abiding citizens from exorcising their goddamn rights.

Before you go on your usual low IQ “HURRR DURR NRA” garbage, I’m NOT a fucking NRA member.

Perhaps someone might have notice that Adam and his Mon had some issues. If the NRA didn’t ensure that there was such a plethora of guns floating around, the thugs would have so many to steal, but they don’t have to steal them, they can just buy them. The BATF did not give them the guns, they allowed them to move to try to track the gun-running operation that was done by U. S. citizens to make some money. The sting failed when the local DA’s chickened out.

Why are you trying to exorcise your own rights? Are you afraid that you are too possessed by them?

        • schotts December 27th, 2014 at 22:25

          Highly doubt it.

        • Thom Clark December 31st, 2014 at 20:57

LOL ‘reliable’ is subjective. The ones who CLAIM they are reliable are usually the ones who initiated them in the first place, utilizing tricky word play to get the answer they want.
And the Background Checks that the ‘Majority’ support are already in place. But the twist comes when the Anti-gunners put a little word into the reporting of those results.. a word that wasn’t in the question itself..
A word like ‘Universal’ or ‘Enhanced’
So the people are just agreeing that they support the Background checks that are already in place, never thinking that the Anti-gun agenda will twist it to mean something else.

The NRA is N-ot R-elevant A-nymore. The vast majority of America favors background checks and common sense regulations*. When the gun lobby takes your own words and throws them back at you (calling Watts a “clown,” or “not self aware,”–my favorite is “bully”–terms which more accurately describe the NRA), that means they have no words of their own, just a lot of “I know you are but what am I?” This just diverts the conversation and allows for no middle ground or compromise. For every gun nut, there are a couple other Americans who, silently, will vote to curb the NRA and the culture it espouses. I don’t support “gun control”–I support gun LOBBY control.

*Polling data on this has to be careful to separate people’s specific opinions from the false dichotomies presented by the gun lobby “either you favor gun control, or you’re a patriotic American who believes in the 2nd Amendment and freedom–which is it?” doesn’t give us any meaningful data at all. Votes aren’t so great either when the gun lobby hacks the system by mobilizing fanatical voters with simple narratives, villains, and things to be afraid of. We’d have more statistics to work with if NRA didn’t suppress research it finds offensive, imo.
