Church Nativity Scene: Homeless Virgin Mary At A Bus Stop

Posted by | December 23, 2014 13:00 | Filed under: Religion Top Stories

The Claremont United Methodist Church in California wants to call attention to those on society’s margins.

The theme for this year’s display at Claremont United Methodist Church on Foothill Boulevard is “Commercialism and the Oppressed.”

Church leaders say the eyes of God are always watching and people should reflect on the true meaning of Christmas…

The Southland church is known for its design of alternative, thought-provoking pieces of art during the holidays.

Displays in previous years have garnered national attention and some have been vandalized, like the 2011 display of both a heterosexual and gay couple. Last year, the display depicted Trayvon Martin in the manger.

technically jesus was the child of rape on a young girl who was homeless

    • tiredoftea December 23rd, 2014 at 13:10

      Actually, technically, he didn’t exist.

      • tracey marie December 23rd, 2014 at 13:17

I agree I was just going with the story

        • edmeyer_able December 23rd, 2014 at 13:45

Actually if you’re “going with the story” no rape was committed since Mary is a virgin, technically she was only inseminated.

          • tracey marie December 23rd, 2014 at 13:49

she was inseminated by an angel, raped

            • granpa.usthai December 23rd, 2014 at 14:19

did she indicate that she was not receptive to the insemination?

              • edmeyer_able December 23rd, 2014 at 14:39

If only facebook was invented back then we’d have the answers to all these questions

No. But, technically, neither did many of Bill Cosby’s “dates.”

              • tracey marie December 23rd, 2014 at 16:37

                did she have a choice?

                • edmeyer_able December 23rd, 2014 at 16:41

As I recall now she prayed that she could be worthy enough to be a nurse to the woman chosen to bear the savior.

                  • tracey marie December 23rd, 2014 at 16:50

                    so she had no choice

                    • edmeyer_able December 23rd, 2014 at 16:55

On the contrary she didn’t think herself to be worthy enough to be chosen to bear the son of God,

I am not going to get into a discussion on a myth, I was joking and really do not give a damn.

          • R.J. Carter December 23rd, 2014 at 14:32

            Nor was she homeless.

            • edmeyer_able December 23rd, 2014 at 14:37

Well being single and pregnant she may have ended up homeless or stoned to death had not Joseph stepped up.

Oh, isn’t that cute! But really, if there was any “oppression” it came from a big government dictate that caused them to leave their little home and travel many miles for the census. Let us not also forget the fact that she was married to a man named Joseph in accordance with Jewish tradition and the natural law.

I think it is quite admirable that they weren’t depending on government subsides to survive and travel to Bethlehem either. Rather than demand that the government provide them with free accommodations at a nice Inn, the Holy family were happy for the humble surroundings of a stable.

Unlike many in our nation today, Joseph took full responsibility for his own family, providing for them fully and to the best of his ability. That is the example that needs to be put out there for all to emulate during this festive season.

Spinning a fringe right fairy tale from a biblical one. Is there no end to the idiocy of your demented economics?

      • R.J. Carter December 23rd, 2014 at 15:52

Joseph and Mary were, in a way, dependent on the state. Of course, being vassals of Rome, they — like all the other Jews — didn’t have much of a choice.

        • Wayout December 23rd, 2014 at 16:40

You are right, forced to comply at the point of the Roman spear. Just like our modern day leftist government.

So when was the last time anyone pointed a gun at you and told you that you had to leave your home or die? How about the last time the government came through to kill your sons? How about rounding you and yours up and shipping them off to a prison camp? Any of those happen to you recently, or is your “persecution” just a convenient way of crying “Poor me! Poor me!”?
            I say wah. Grow up.

And is ” Merry Christmas!” said the way we always say it, or in the Christian right’s belligerent way?

    • R.J. Carter December 23rd, 2014 at 15:51

Technically, she was engaged to Joseph. If she’d already been married to him, she wouldn’t have been a virgin.

      • Wayout December 23rd, 2014 at 16:37

Sure she would have. The Scriptures are replete with people who give themselves totally to the Lord, and Mary, the new “Ark of the Covenant”, this one actually carrying God himself in the flesh, would always remain pure just as the original Ark of the Covenant. Joseph, most likely an older man and a widower was only to be her and the Incarnate Word’s guardian and protector here on earth. At least his is how it has been explaitned to me.

        • R.J. Carter December 23rd, 2014 at 16:45

For always “remaining pure,” she sure pumped out the siblings.

          • Dwendt44 December 23rd, 2014 at 18:28

According to the Tulmed, a Roman soldier was jesus’s father. And since having sex while pregnant isn’t a problem, I doubt Mary was a ‘virgin’ for long. Of course, the whole ‘virgin’ idea is a fabrication due to a mis-translation of Greek writings.
then again, the whole ‘nativity’ scene is a myth anyway.

      Right on time.
Good job Skippy. Now please go sleep in a stable and show the rest of us what a great upstanding right wing lover of ‘Murica, you really are. I’m sure everyone will be impressed with your resistance to big government. Smelling like horsesh*t the next day will be a small price to pay for your heroic efforts. Really, you wonder that? He would be called a ‘thug’ because of his dark skin. He’d be called a ‘socialist’ because he healed the sick. He’d be put in the category of the worst of the worst, while they cheered on his execution, which certainly would be botched.
