You know what is really amazing? Not a single American atheist no matter how fervent, will demand their employer allow them to work Christmas day. No liberal no matter how deeply they believe in the separation of church and state will demand that the United States Government be open for business Christmas day, None will demand federal employees be at their jobs. None will file lawsuits to throw out the federal law that recognizes a religious holiday. (yes the federal law actually says “Christmas”) The freedom from religion group won’t sue because the white house has a Christmas tree.There is a reason, Their beliefs are shallow and superficial. Their actions like suing over manger scenes are contrary for the sake of contrarianism they are cowardly bigots and they resent anything that makes Christians happy. Christmas is as much a secular holiday as religious, if not more so. The reason people sue over nativity scenes is because some people insist on putting them at government facilities, and the government is not supposed to be in the business of supporting any religion. You can put one in your yard, at a shopping mall, in front of your restaurant, at a private school, but not at city hall. Why is that so hard to get? And if you work for a business that is closed on Christmas, how can you demand to work that day? You don’t make a lot of sense a lot of the time.

In Lansing’s case, Larry, the gummint simply allows citizens to pay for and maintain religious scenes, for any religion, including the Church of Satan, on the Capitol lawn, no big whoop.
The gummint does not pay for or in any way sponsor any given display. They do require gummint approval, which I presume is simply about bounds of good taste and such.

You’ll find that the lack of a nativity scene at the Lansing, Michigan was the result of a lack of Christians desiring to put one up, which is why Rick Jones decided to do it.

mostly, it’s the religious HYPOCRISY of the churchgoers. most manger scenes have the three wiseguys from China at the manger scene which is FALSE even by scriptural events. Such blasphemies on the pagan holiday of the evergreen is as blatant Demonic inspired as it gets. There were NO wiseguys at the manger – get it? and… the tax collection during that time period was usually in late July/early September at the end of the grain harvest – sos the government could collect their share. If the manger scene was set up on government lands (land owned BY THE PEOPLE) in late summer/early fall – without the three wiseguys, I’m sure there would be a lot less protest, as it would not be in direct conflict of the day that has been set aside to adorn the sacred evergreen tree – the tree of life – which unlike other trees, remains green throughout the seasons, giving believers of the sacred evergreen the hope that they too shall remain ‘forever young’.

See you have to man a building with more than just one person so my not working on Christmas is because Christians wont let me work it. This is a bi-directional wall. It protects people’s rights to their individual beliefs. This is tied very closely with the concept of free speech. If religion merges with a government, you can say goodbye to your ability to speak your mind.

And, of course, jesus wasn’t born on December 25 to begin with. The 12/25 date is historically been the end of Saturnalia, which celebrates the winter Solstice. Meaning that the sun starts moving back north, proving that spring and summer will surely follow.
Pagan traditions are now clearly secular, and the religious veneer pasted on that date is not an excuse to ignore the beginning of the ‘holiday’. We do the same with Thanksgiving. It’s not a religious holiday as such, but we celebrate it anyway; religious and secular alike. The same case can be made for Easter even though it’s named for a Pagan goddess.
