The Great Duel of Our Times is on. The Eternal Battle Between Good and Evil has come to the fore; not in the valley of Megiddo, as we might have expected, but a bit closer to home. Specifically, Lansing, Michigan. More specifically, on the lawn of the Michigan State Capitol building, where lawmaker Rick Jones (R-Grand…

You know what is really amazing? Not a single American atheist no matter how fervent, will demand their employer allow them to work Christmas day. No liberal no matter how deeply they believe in the separation of church and state will demand that the United States Government be open for business Christmas day, None will demand federal employees be at their jobs. None will file lawsuits to throw out the federal law that recognizes a religious holiday. (yes the federal law actually says “Christmas”) The freedom from religion group won’t sue because the white house has a Christmas tree. There is a reason, Their beliefs are shallow and superficial. Their actions like suing over manger scenes are contrary for the sake of contrarianism they are cowardly bigots and they resent anything that makes Christians happy. Just not enough to put their money where their mouth is. They would never demand they be allowed to labor on Christmas day. They would never risk the public backlash of challenging the US government’s law recognizing a christian holiday. Let’s be honest, which is a bigger violation of the separation of church and state? A manger scene in front of the county court house or the federal government paying 2,700,000 people to not work on Jesus Christ’s birthday?

    • OldLefty December 18th, 2014 at 18:35

      Why would they?

Do Jews demand to work on Christmas day?

The reason it is a national holiday is because so many will take off.

As for; A manger scene in front of the county court house or the federal government paying 2,700,000 people to not work on Jesus Christ’s birthday?

And if the community is majority Muslim and Hindu, and they use the taxpayer money of Christians?

Why do you need the government’s sanction of your religion?

      • Dwendt44 December 19th, 2014 at 00:24

They need the impression of approval, preference, or acceptance because they have doubts they won’t admit tol because they feel superior; because they wish to think they are special.

    • Larry Schmitt December 18th, 2014 at 18:53

Christmas is as much a secular holiday as religious, if not more so. The reason people sue over nativity scenes is because some people insist on putting them at government facilities, and the government is not supposed to be in the business of supporting any religion. You can put one in your yard, at a shopping mall, in front of your restaurant, at a private school, but not at city hall. Why is that so hard to get? And if you work for a business that is closed on Christmas, how can you demand to work that day? You don’t make a lot of sense a lot of the time.

      • ChrisVosburg December 18th, 2014 at 19:07

In Lansing’s case, Larry, the gummint simply allows citizens to pay for and maintain religious scenes, for any religion, including the Church of Satan, on the Capitol lawn, no big whoop.

The gummint does not pay for or in any way sponsor any given display. They do require gummint approval, which I presume is simply about bounds of good taste and such.

mostly, it’s the religious HYPOCRISY of the churchgoers. most manger scenes have the three wiseguys from China at the manger scene which is FALSE even by scriptural events. Such blasphemies on the pagan holiday of the evergreen is as blatant Demonic inspired as it gets. There were NO wiseguys at the manger – get it? and… the tax collection during that time period was usually in late July/early September at the end of the grain harvest – sos the government could collect their share. If the manger scene was set up on government lands (land owned BY THE PEOPLE) in late summer/early fall – without the three wiseguys, I’m sure there would be a lot less protest, as it would not be in direct conflict of the day that has been set aside to adorn the sacred evergreen tree – the tree of life – which unlike other trees, remains green throughout the seasons, giving believers of the sacred evergreen the hope that they too shall remain ‘forever young’.

For me its a Thursday I could be doing something productive in my field but instead I have to do other stuff like hear a bunch of people wish me holiday blessings I don’t care about and I grunt something back and die a little inside. What? You don’t even understand WHY religion and state need to be separated do you?

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.
      -Jefferson

‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’
      ^^^^^

If religion and state merge, Congress can start telling everyone WHAT and HOW to believe. Do you want that? Do you want the government telling YOU what to believe? Or HOW you can express that belief in your life?

This is a bi-directional wall. It protects people’s rights to their individual beliefs. This is tied very closely with the concept of free speech. If religion merges with a government, you can say goodbye to your ability to speak your mind.

And all you loose in the bargain is the ability to put a manger on a government lawn. It’s a hell of a bargain. Stop obsessing and focus on any other issue that has real meaning.

          Try Google. It’s your friend.

In 1999, the federal district court dismissed Ganulin’s lawsuit, holding that “the establishment of Christmas Day as a legal public holiday does not violate the Establishment Clause because it has a valid secular purpose, it does not have the effect of endorsing religion in general or Christianity in particular, and it does not impermissibly cause excessive entanglement between church and state.” That decision was later upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

FYI: I don’t actually know a single American who celebrates the Christmas holiday as a religious event. I don’t think you’re aware how fast America is coming out of the dark ages.

          • Dwendt44 December 19th, 2014 at 00:18

And, of course, jesus wasn’t born on December 25 to begin with. The 12/25 date is historically been the end of Saturnalia, which celebrates the winter Solstice. Meaning that the sun starts moving back north, proving that spring and summer will surely follow.
Pagan traditions are now clearly secular, and the religious veneer pasted on that date is not an excuse to ignore the beginning of the ‘holiday’. We do the same with Thanksgiving. It’s not a religious holiday as such, but we celebrate it anyway; religious and secular alike. The same case can be made for Easter even though it’s named for a Pagan goddess.

Two questions. 1.)So what part of the article touched upon atheists, and any
effort by such to object to a nativity scene?
2.) Do you enjoy making a fool of yourself by commenting on
an article you clearly have not read?
Well, I’m sure we all enjoyed your “holier than thou” rant and your judgment of us heathens. I won’t keep you. I know you’re anxious to get back to your church.

My comment was about how the left collectively has a cow when this sort of thing happens but then cowardly ignores a much greater violation because they lack the courage of their conviction.

          I call B*LLSHIT.
Your comment was simply a faithful regurgitation of whatever The Fox-bat sheep herders dumped into your empty skull. You clearly didn’t read the article.

        • DaddyO_969 December 22nd, 2014 at 09:58

You and your ilk are the cowards. You hide behind a false morality while stealing from the needy. You are disgusting. It is cowards like you that make me hope judgement is real: your hypocrisy will be punished.
