Obama’s Great Month

If President Obama is focused on building his legacy, this month has been quite a success in that department:

On November 26, the Obama administration put forward new anti-smog regulations that should prevent thousands of premature deaths and heart attacks every year. About two weeks later, Obama’s appointees at the Federal Reserve implemented new rules curbing reckless borrowing by giant banks that will reduce profits and shareholder earnings but increase the safety of the financial system. Yet both of these were minor stories compared to normalizing relations with Cuba after decades and his sweeping plan to protect millions of unauthorized immigrants from

deportation. Somewhere in the meantime, Democrats broke the congressional logjam and got a whole boatload of nominees confirmed.

And not only is he keeping his own promises, he is keeping Republican ones from 2012:

Remember the 2012 presidential campaign? It was just two years ago that Mitt Romney boasted that if he were elected president, he’d “get the unemployment rate down to 6 percent, perhaps a little lower” by the end of his first term in 2016.
Americans decided to re-elect President Obama instead. The unemployment dropped below 6 percent in September 2014, about two years ahead of Romney’s timeline.
It was around this time when Newt Gingrich vowed that if he were the president, he’d lower the price of gas to $2.50 a gallon. That was the threshold for success.
Yup, gas is now below $2.50/gallon.  Any other requests?

Interesting observation… No two-term president has had even one house in his 4th quarter since Truman. Truman had both.

      Amen

If he still had the Senate, he’d have a lot easier time of getting another person on the Supreme Court, if a vacancy arises.

Number of Uninsured Americans Near Historic Low

The data released Thursday from the National Center for Health Statistics’ National Health Interview Survey found that 11.3 percent of Americans were without coverage in the second quarter of 2014, down from 13.1 percent in the first quarter and 14.4 percent throughout 2013. An analysis by the White House Council of Economic Advisers finds the drop in the uninsured to be the largest in four decades, amounting to roughly 9.7 million Americans getting insurance, consistent with other Affordable Care Act estimates.

Nice pull, arc99. The Democratic Party needs to be out there loudly getting those people registered to vote, and then get them to the polls in November 2016.

I would add that the release of the torture report reminded everyone of the horror we left behind when we elected this President and threw the evil B*$h/Cheney regime in the dustbin of history.

Actually it was the Cheney/Rove regime. W was a sock puppet.

Very nicely put, Mr. Shapiro. I would add that one result of these things and others is greater division in the GOP and the encouragement of the establishment Republicans to take on the Tea Party more directly.
All are definite ‘wins’ for the American people.
