Boehner Wonders Why Democrats Didn’t Pass A Bill Which They Already Passed

Posted by | December 17, 2014 13:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

A funny exchange (not exactly ha ha funny though) happened between House Speaker John Boehner and Chuck Schumer on Twitter.

It went like this:

A really smart Republican (who has me blocked on the Twitter machine. He probably thinks I’m a libtard or something) weighed in.

The answer to that question is: yes, yes he was and still is.

The answer to that question is: It happened in 2014 — not 1993 — so it makes a big difference.

The GOP-led house has ignored the the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, a program which was implemented in 1993 2002.

The Huffington Post reports:

A Republican senator Tuesday blocked a bill that would have renewed a government program credited with reviving the market for insurance against terrorist strikes after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The objections of Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, who is retiring this year, dimmed chances for any action in the waning hours of the lame-duck session of Congress.

Mr. House Speaker, Democrats did pass it and a Republican obstructed it which is a thing they do. It’s been a commonplace occurrence ever since Obama took office.

The terrorism risk insurance program was originally enacted in 2002 after the 9/11 attacks caused the private market for terrorism insurance to collapse. It provides a government backstop for insurance companies in the event of catastrophic losses, and had widespread support from business groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

So we can only conclude that Coburn obviously did not like a program passed during the Bush administration. Unless, it’s because of Obama – but that would be crazy.

Full disclosure: I have no idea whether TRIA is a good program or a bad one, but at least John Boehner should know the bill he’s upset Democrats didn’t pass, even though they already did.

H/T: My buddy @TomCinmidlife with thanks.

She did not have plans to leave, she does have some health issues, not dire. She and another person were swapping recipes and she was joking and playing with us.She was stocking her pantry for the long winter months, posting pics of her animal feeders and the shore by her home….We are worried.

I feel really bad right now. I really like her a lot but we had a disagreement in the comment threads. It wasn’t a big deal to me, but she said she was ‘creeped out.’ That’s fine by me. It had to do with whether I pray in public or not (I’m a leftist Christian.) Personally, if my head goes down for a second, I don’t feel that should bother anyone. She seemed to take issue with it and I disagreed.

I hope I didn’t scare her away. Look, a lot of people will disagree with me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think of them with a smile on my face. We’re all different:-)

No, I saw her here afterwards, some atheists are against public prayer like some christians are against no public prayer. She liked it here, I know it.

That’s good to know. I’m against religion colliding with government, but what I do in my own head (which is totally not intrusive to others), is not up for others to judge. I do what I want and think what I want, all the while supporting other people to do the same with their different spiritual beliefs or non-religious beliefs.

I’m an old hippie. I don’t judge others and hope I’m not judged in return:-)

Exactlly, I do not care what others believe untill they attempt to make laws or push their beliefs on me. You did nothing wrong and she knows it. She is a tough fighter and does not judge, just states her opinion.

Now to be fair unless the bill was to give more tax breaks to the wealthy or corporations, reduce government oversight on banks, reduce equal rights to women or minorities, or remove all gun laws Boehner can’t be bothered. His job is to answer to the Kochs and Cheney.

    • Terry Carter December 18th, 2014 at 17:39

You do know this is a nearly made up story right. The bill expires this year. The GOP submitted a new bill that the Democrats refuse to take up. Must be nice to ignore facts.

Now congressional debates are conducted via twitter?….
This is not what the “founding fathers” had in mind…:)

    • CherMoe December 17th, 2014 at 20:46

Republicans don’t “debate” in case you hadn’t noticed. They’re just too stupid and have taken their chances in several recent elections to just “plead the 5th” and depend on their gerrymandering and vote rigging & voter suppression to win the elections. They make no promises any more and deliver nothing. They didn’t even campaign on anything this time, except anything AGAINST OBAMA or the Democrats. That’s how stupid people are that vote for them.

Why do Liberals ALWAYS only tell half the story, though in this case it’s more like 15% of the story. I’ll tell you the full story. Yes the house took up the bill (It expires this year so requires a new bill to renew). The GOP sent the renewal in as part of a package, the Democrats refused to support the package sent over because it doesn’t contain only Liberal wanted items.

So Chuck is wrong, probably not the first. He knows for a fact that the bill that he’s talking about expires Dec 31st and the bill John is talking about is the one that renews the expiring act. So the GOP didn’t ignore anything. I’m sure Liberaland knows this but I’d not expect them to get any facts 100% correct…..or in this case 50% correct….though it looks more like 10%.

I liked the time a couple years ago when the Republicans voted down the budget they proposed.
It reminded me of when they were against the federal government getting into the local schools, then voted for for No Child Left Behind, and now they’re back to being against the federal government getting involved in local schools.

Just like when they were for a balanced budget for so many years, but then when they had the presidency and both houses of Congress, not only managed to take us from a surplus to a record-sized deficit in 2 years, they nodded like Terry Schiavo watching a balloon when Dick Cheney said deficits don’t matter any more.

Which was like when they said the U.S. military was being broken by a temporary 10,000-man deployment to the former Yugoslavia but turned around and sent 150,000 troops to invade Iraq as part of their “kinder, gentler foreign policy.”
And just before the invasion, they showed how much they supported the troops about to go into combat – er, make that the “cakewalk” – by cutting hazardous duty pay, eliminating 300,000 troops from the invasion and later refusing to equip the troops with armored vehicles that would cut deaths from IEDs.

The same ones were against having 9/11 investigated by an independent commission, then they were for it, then they wanted to close it down before they could do their work and they tried to strangle it by giving the investigation something like a tenth of the budget for the investigation into the Challenger disaster.

I like how you went off topic and didn’t respond to my comments…by the way I could have just as many, probably more, examples of Democrats doing the same thing….for example how many were for the iraq war until it became a problem and then suddenly they were against it……just about the entire leadership.

Or the troop serge, you know that thing that 99% of democrats said would never work and they were against, until it worked..now they try and take credit for it.

Now that I refuted your weak reply, how about you try and reply to my comment now.

LOL even the Liberal admit is was a good idea…..well after they said it wasn’t….I’m guessing you are trying to say if the surge worked where did ISIS come from…ask Obozo, we had everything in hand and he didn’t even try to keep troops there…then he sat back and watch ISIS become a power and took way to long to even think about doing anything.

If you want to talk trash and make stuff up that’s fine, we can do that. however if you want to talk about the subject at hand, such as how the Liberals on this site ignored the truth and made up stuff for political gains then lets..
