It’s Official: Darren Wilson’s Letter Of Resignation

Posted by | November 29, 2014 19:23 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

It’s official. The Ferguson police officer responsible for shooting Michael Brown dead on Aug. 9th, has resigned from the police department.

The 28-year-old has been on the force for six years.

According to the St. Louis-Dispatch, Wilson said he resigned after the police department told him it had received threats of violence if he remained an employee.

“I’m resigning of my own free will,” he said. “I’m not willing to let someone else get hurt because of me.”

Although, someone did get hurt. A teenager is dead.

He said resigning was “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

“This is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do,” he added.

Wilson’s resignation letter reads via the Dispatch:

“I, Darren Wilson, hereby resign my commission as a police officer with the City of Ferguson effective immediately. I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow. For obvious reasons, I wanted to wait until the grand jury made their decision before I officially made my decision to resign. It was my hope to continue in police work, but the safety of other police officers and the community are of paramount importance to me. It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. I would like to thank all of my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process.”

Wilson’s attorney, Neil Bruntrager, said a news conference is in the works.

His attorney said he acted without receiving a severance package, although he said more talks may be held on that issue.

According to Bruntrager, he has been told there is no internal police investigation.

Wilson recently married another Ferguson police officer and the couple is expecting their first child.

“I’ve got to figure out what do we do now,” Wilson said tonight. “Right now I would not want to be a cop, but you never know. Only time will tell.”

We do not need police officers such as Darren Wilson on the force. While there is no justification for threats of any kind, it goes both ways. Michael Brown’s church was torched. It’s destroyed. So, it’s not a one way thing. Both sides are wrong if they threatened the other.

But, only one person walked out alive on August 9th. Only one man can mull over opportunities available to him. One of the people from August 9th can never have a child, get married, or start a career.

Only one family is mourning the loss of their loved one.

Maybe Darren and George Zimmerman can get together and do a comedy show. They can dress up wearing black face. It’d be a hoot!

what if they ‘accidentally’ shoot each other in the back of the head without drawing their loaded weapons?

strange things happen with loaded guns.

the current shortage of white sheets is all Obama’s fault!
hopefully there will be enough for the GOP 2016 Convention.

I don’t want him to die. I want him to grow and to learn but only so that he can live with what he’s done. The all-encompassing pain will be unbearable, but he’ll have to hang in there, while thinking of Michael Brown’s face as he kept shooting, over and over again at his unarmed target.

I hope he is haunted by what he did, but that would mean he feels remorse and empathy, but I believe he does not.

Only one of those two men chose (a) to threaten an officer and (b) to not get down on the ground and surrender afterward. Only one of those two men that day made a decision that resulted in the ending of his own life.
That man’s church was torched. Of course, it was the same night the rest of the city was aflame, but let’s assume that this one fire out of over a dozen was singularly not torched by the angry, mindless mob.
But only one of these men is being canonized.

    • mea_mark November 29th, 2014 at 20:13

I still think Wilson started the whole thing by backing up and hitting Brown with his car door on purpose. The original crime of assault was perpetrated by Wilson and it escalated out of control. There is every reason to have a trial to determine what happened and let the public see all the evidence. Anything less is a mockery of justice.

      • R.J. Carter November 29th, 2014 at 20:16

The mountains of evidence presented to the grand jury are now being gone over by the public at large. Darren Wilson is now being tried by a jury of 300 million. Good luck getting a unanimous vote on that count.

        • edmeyer_able November 29th, 2014 at 20:19

That mountain never should have been provided to the gj, in effect it was a trial of wilson w/o a prosecutor, and based on a defense that was ruled unconstitutional in 1985.

        • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 15:17

Nobody claimed that TM tried to grab his weapon, at least from my account of the trial. As with Brown, he was shot in the thumb, more then likely in the struggle for the officer’s weapon.

        • Jay Samples December 3rd, 2014 at 11:12

You’re still mad that other criminal was killed for trying to commit a murder? We’re not even talking about that here. Now you’re trying to mix the details of that case with the details of this case. ARe you intentionally trying to cause confusion too?

          • granpa.usthai December 3rd, 2014 at 23:49

who chased who down with a loaded gun for a confrontation?

            • Jay Samples December 4th, 2014 at 12:58

You are misrepresenting the facts of the case. The evidence showed GZ followed TM, not chased as you claim. He followed TM so that he could report his location to the responding police officers. That is completely reasonable. During that time, TM realized he was being followed, and instead of continuing to his dads house, he circled back and attached GZ. You can hang onto the misinformation you use to justify your desired conclusion, or you can look at the facts objectively, and come to a better conclusion.

      • Jay Samples December 3rd, 2014 at 11:11

The american public has seen all the evidence that is admissible in court. He was not indicted. It is over with.

      On men being canonized….

Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager, was considered a “demon”, and described as ‘Hulk Hogan,’ by his killer who was gifted with an extraordinary amount of money for those that – wait for it – considered him to be a hero. These are probably the same people that gave money to George Zimmerman.

      That’s some canonization.

    • FrankenPC . November 29th, 2014 at 21:21

If all teens should be killed for being a-holes, the human race would not survive.

Wilson/Brown hero/martyr/villain. WHO CARES! The evidence was killed. The cop avoided shutting down the scene immediately after the event and calling in crime scene experts to document it and piece together eyewitness testimony. That to me is the real travesty of justice here.

What this really looks like to me is an amateur cop who went off the hinges and the good old boy network covered everything up because OBAMA! I mean that literally. The African American hate right now is freakin tangible.

      • Jay Samples December 2nd, 2014 at 22:36

He wasn’t shot because he was a jerk, because he was black, or because he had just robbed a liquor store! He was shot becuause he was actively attacking a police officer. The officer shot him in order to stop the threat.

        • FrankenPC . December 2nd, 2014 at 22:54

That scenario was concocted to white-wash a murder. You’ve been suckered.

That’s horseradish. You’ve been suckered by Sharptons friends. I realize your goal is to cause chaos and confusion, hoping for the breakdown of our society, but you will not be successful. Many better and smarter than you have tried before and failed.

            • FrankenPC . December 3rd, 2014 at 11:37

Heh. I’m not the devil incarnate Jay. You don’t know what my goals are. The only reason the authoritarians plan succeeded is because there is a good-old-boy network in place to protect cops. Ask a cop. They are protected from nearly everything they do. They do’t have to abide by the same laws you and I do.

Look, do you believe the government is coming to take our guns? Exactly how do you think they will do that? With a strongly worded letter? No, they will send in the cops. This thing with Ferguson isn’t just about racism, it’s about cops testing the waters of the legal system. Seeing what they can get away with. Mark my words Jay, there will come a time when we white people won’t be exempt from the bullet of a cops gun.

      • granpa.usthai November 30th, 2014 at 03:01

sometimes I think that had the worthless sack of gz not knocked Trayvon’s phone out of his hand, he wouldn’t have had to recklessly and wantonly endangered other citizens lives by discharging his weapon that HAD NO BLOOD or fingerprints of Trayvon on it!

        • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 16:17

Nobody claimed that TM tried to grab his weapon, at least from my account of the trial. As with Brown, he was shot in the thumb, more then likely in the struggle for the officer’s weapon.

        • Jay Samples December 3rd, 2014 at 12:12

You’re still mad that other criminal was killed for trying to commit a murder? We’re not even talking about that here. Now you’re trying to mix the details of that case with the details of this case. ARe you intentionally trying to cause confusion too?

          • granpa.usthai December 4th, 2014 at 00:49

who chased who down with a loaded gun for a confrontation?

            • Jay Samples December 4th, 2014 at 13:58

You are misrepresenting the facts of the case. The evidence showed GZ followed TM, not chased as you claim. He followed TM so that he could report his location to the responding police officers. That is completely reasonable. During that time, TM realized he was being followed, and instead of continuing to his dads house, he circled back and attached GZ. You can hang onto the misinformation you use to justify your desired conclusion, or you can look at the facts objectively, and come to a better conclusion.

      • Jay Samples December 3rd, 2014 at 12:11

The american public has seen all the evidence that is admissible in court. He was not indicted. It is over with.

        • whatthe46 December 4th, 2014 at 01:05

          that’s a damned lie.

    • Anomaly 100 November 29th, 2014 at 21:29

      On men being canonized….

Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager, was considered a “demon”, and described as ‘Hulk Hogan,’ by his killer who was gifted with an extraordinary amount of money for those that – wait for it – considered him to be a hero. These are probably the same people that gave money to George Zimmerman.

      That’s some canonization.

OTOH, we know that Michael probably had his faults. I sure did when I was his age. I’m glad no one shot me for my past misdeeds though. I hope I’ve done some good since I left my past where it belongs — in the past. We all make mistakes but don’t deserve to be shot repeatedly.

    • FrankenPC . November 29th, 2014 at 22:21

      • Jay Samples December 2nd, 2014 at 23:36

He wasn’t shot because he was a jerk, because he was black, or because he had just robbed a liquor store! He was shot becuause he was actively attacking a police officer. The officer shot him in order to stop the threat.

        • FrankenPC . December 2nd, 2014 at 23:54

That scenario was concocted to white-wash a murder. You’ve been suckered.

          • Jay Samples December 3rd, 2014 at 12:04

That’s horseradish. You’ve been suckered by Sharptons friends. I realize your goal is to cause chaos and confusion, hoping for the breakdown of our society, but you will not be successful. Many better and smarter than you have tried before and failed.

            • FrankenPC . December 3rd, 2014 at 12:37

Those are the things a moderator (so I’m informed) is supposed to stay on top of, not having a differing opinion from the majority of the readership.

hell, they had over 1,000 white guys that locked and loaded on Federal Agents in Nevada with stolen US Military Weapons, and NOT ONE SINGLE ONE was shot, questioned, taken into custody or even had to turn in their stolen US Military weapons!

      Very well said RJ.

And only one of them murdered an unarmed teen who was surrendering himself.

      • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 15:13

And what evidence do you have to support your claim? There is no forensic evidence to even remotely suggest that Brown was surrendering.

      • Jay Samples December 2nd, 2014 at 22:49

That is factually inaccurate. You can believe what you want to. I’ll rely on the facts, as I hope the justice system will.

why is the ONLY answer deadly force??

what is wrong with some people?

      • granpa.usthai November 30th, 2014 at 02:11

        reference: NEVADA.
        no deadly force was used.
        no arrest were made.
over 1,000 WHITE RACIST TERRORIST (many with stolen Military arms provided by WHITE RACIST hiding behind Law Enforcement badges) merely went their way at their choosing – WITH the stolen US Military Weapons.
Deadly force is the ONLY answer for the not so white.

        • Jay Samples December 2nd, 2014 at 22:34

That’s a complete mis-understanding of what happened. The officers in Nevada were seriously out gunned, and the DOJ, operating under the cloud of Waco and Ruby Ridge, decided not to start a fire fight with heavily armed people who outnumber and outgun them. There was a much smarter way to address the problem, which they did after the situation was de-escalated. Deadly force is only the answer when someone is actively trying to kill you, not when they are walking around with a rifle slung over their shoulder.

          • granpa.usthai December 3rd, 2014 at 23:59

Not to mention the doe se doe ing of Klansmen hiding behind their womenfolk springing out pointing their hands like it had a weapon. (trained by a WHITE RACIST hiding behind a badge). As long as the US Government is supportative of such, The Resistance will GROW – so have at it, D Day is coming – AGAIN.

      • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 15:12

Because the officer feared death or great bodily harm to himself. Therefore, his use of force was justified.

        • mea_mark December 1st, 2014 at 15:24

Not if Wilson instigated the whole incident by hitting Brown with his car door. Once Wilson commits assault against Brown he loses all protections and rights as a police officer. He becomes nothing more than a Thug in a uniform with a gun blowing people away because he has an attitude problem.

          • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 15:28

And what evidence do you have to support your assertions? The testimony of his friend, who also said that Brown was shot in the back with his hands up?

          • bahlers December 1st, 2014 at 19:34

Are you this ignorant to the details of the case? Wilson did not have a taser on at the time of the incident, nor was there a dash cam or body cam.

And suggesting that he call for backup?!! Are you serious? This incident lasted at most a couple of minutes. How could backup arrive as Brown is inches away from gaining complete access to Wilson’s gun, not to mention arrive before Brown charged Wilson and attempted to tackle him? How is it that the response time for the Ferguson PD is to rival even the best time of the NYPD?

Your idiotic comments show your complete lack of any detail towards this case whatsoever, and I suggest that you review said details before you jump on the bandwagon that wants Wilson dead.

What is sad is how opinionated you are about something you know so little about… Police officers often work without partners. Whether or not an officer has a partner, or what equipment he carries is not a decision made by the individual officer… It’s made by the people who run the police department.

              • bahlers December 5th, 2014 at 01:40

It’s really easy, from the safety of your home, behind your computer screen, to second guess a split second decision a professional police officer makes while he’s getting his ass kicked. I totally understand why you find it hard to understand why the officer needed to shoot him. But just remember, that’s exactly why you need the police, so that you’ll never to know what is needed to know in order to understand. While everyone else is running danger, police officers and fire fighters run toward it to protect you and your neighbors.
