Michael Brown’s Father: ‘They Crucified His Character’

Posted by | November 25, 2014 20:30 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Michael Brown, Sr. spoke to Al Sharpton on MSNBC saying his son has been “crucified.”

Brown told Sharpton, “The only person that can really talk for him is me and his mom and at this point, you’re right, he can’t defend himself, he’s buried.”

He didn’t mention anyone by name, but he did refer to individuals who “crucified his character” and lamented how everyone keeps saying “terrible” things about his son.

I cannot even fathom the sadness and heartbreak that this family has endured since August.

    • Suzanne McFly November 25th, 2014 at 20:48

And it just seems to keep getting worse. They somehow rise above it, says a lot about them.

True. It makes the loss of Michael seem that much more tragic.

Michael Brown crucified his own character. He was caught on video perpetrating a strong armed robbery, but no one wants to talk about that. Officer Wilson did not just drive around looking for a young black man to shoot.

    • StoneyCurtisll November 25th, 2014 at 21:28

stealing a pack of cigarillos is not “strong arm robbery”…
      Even the DA said so..

Sorry, no matter how you look at it. He went in to the store. He stole something. He pushed the owner, And he left without paying.

There is nothing else you can call it.

The penalty for theft is not death.

          • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 25th, 2014 at 23:07

“Strong Arming” the robbery is not what killed him.

But out of curiosity, what is the proper punishment for someone who “Strong Arms” a robbery? What if it was a a robbery of your Home??

            • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 23:19

It doesn’t matter. He wasn’t shot because of the robbery, therefore ‘the penalty for theft is not death’ is a misdirection to the question of whether he committed robbery or not. And he did commit robbery.
It is the robbery that started the chain of events that lead to his death.

              • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 25th, 2014 at 23:24

We don’t know whether any robbery was committed or not. All we have is a grainy video that has been interpreted several different ways.

Sadly, Michael Brown will not have the opportunity to defend himself at a trial, because a racist cop appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner.

                • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 07:34

“All we have is a grainy video that has been interpreted several different ways.”
No, we have clear enough video, plus the 911 call while it was happening, plus the companion’s admitting he was handed the packets, plus the police reports of the incident by witnesses…
Not to mention all those family/friends/activists saying ‘he didn’t deserve to get shot for stealing…’

Whether someone wants it to be or not, rational people call it robbery.

            Hmmmmmm….

            shoplifting = to steal (merchandise)

Stealing = to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, especially secretly or by force

Theft = the act of stealing; the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods or property of another; larceny.

Robbery = the felonious taking of the property of another from his or her person or in his or her immediate presence, against his or her will, by violence or intimidation.

Ummmmmmmm Yup. Still looks like robbery to me.

And please don’t go full retard… It is very unbecoming

    Two words: Civil Lawsuit!

    • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 25th, 2014 at 23:15

      two words – Wont Happen

barring any federal case. he was an officer on duty and was not indited by a grand jury. there is no basis.

      • tiredoftea November 25th, 2014 at 23:40

A civil lawsuit charging wrongful death can be successful. As would be the same against the police and town.

        • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 25th, 2014 at 23:51

I disagree. I am sure there is case law out there that wont allow you to sue an officer who had been cleared of wrong doing.

As a 2A activist, we well know all to well. that the police cannot be sued because they have no duty to protect an individual.

          • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 23:56

You are correct. Police are immune from suit for the performance of their jobs unless willful, unreasonable conduct is demonstrated. Negligence or the failure to exercise due care is not enough to create liability. It is called qualified immunity.

            • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 04:08

Yes, that is why Sean Bell’s killers in New York City, when they were cleared were sued as well as the City of New York, and Sean Bell’s wife to be got multi-millions.

              • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 05:48

Because a judge lifted the stay on the lawsuit, which was settled for the money, as voted by the corp council.
Let me be clear, anyone can sue anyone anytime now. I was talking about the norm and w/no special circumstances. If they go after the cop, defense will be as stated above. If they go after the city, jury nullification or settlement is always possible.

                • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 06:18

I will bet anyone that the family gets a settlement. I have lived in Detroit, Chicago, and New York City, and I have never seen one lawsuit case against the police department which wasn’t either settled out of court, or granted in a trial. Sorry that I cannot look at your side. I look at what I have been witness too.

                  • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 07:23

And I’ve seen in the city I lived in at the time, 2 different times, it getting thrown out.
And I’m not taking a side, was just talking about law. Like I said above, anyone can sue anyone over anything at anytime. Some make it, some don’t.

                    • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 08:10

One case in Detroit where the guy was armed and turned on the officer. The officer killed the kid. His family tried to sue and they lost. I have never seen a case where the subject was unarmed where the case was thrown out.

          • tiredoftea November 26th, 2014 at 00:16

He hasn’t been cleared of wrongdoing as there has been no trial. As a self styled 2A activist, your grasp of law is as suspect as your understanding of that amendment.

            • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 08:44

Actually, this case is pretty much over contrary to your chagrin. By returning a no true bill on probable cause for any of the criminal charges will pretty much exonerate him. What is different about his case versus that of being a civilian, is that as an officer, he will be afforded a greater immunity. Especially in the situation where the physical evidence will show that Mike Brown assaulted him first.

              • tiredoftea November 26th, 2014 at 12:15

                How little you know.

          • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 04:07

Get off of Florida Stand Your Ground law, which has nothing to do with Missouri. I just heard experts saying tonight that a civil lawsuit against both the officer and the town would be easy to win.

            • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 08:45

Nothing to do with stand your ground.

              • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 08:53

You’re correct! That is why they can be sued.

                • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 08:59

I am sure they will try. as far as it being successful. I highly doubt it. With no criminal charges. Doubtful any federal or civil right charges. It will be very difficult to overcome.

                  • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 09:15

Sean Bell, and many many others. Sorry – I can look up and post a successful lawsuit for every unsuccessful one you post.

          • Hirightnow November 26th, 2014 at 06:44

Refusal to indict =/= clearing of wrongdoing.

      • William November 26th, 2014 at 01:04

The rules of evidence are different in a civil suit. So is the level of proof. In a criminal case it’s beyond a doubt. In a civil case it’s based upon a preponderance of the evidence IE O.J. Simpson.
I’m fairly certain there will be a civil lawsuit.

      • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 04:05

Obviously, you don’t understand how the system works. William is correct! The Browns will get a settlement from both Ferguson and the homely officer.

        • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 09:02

I am very aware of how the system works. Where I think you fail to recognize is this was an event that happened while the officer was on duty, Brown assaulted wilson. No criminal charges, Highly doubt any federal or civil right charges pending. Officer will have certain immunities afforded to him.

          • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 09:13

Yes, and? I have seen on duty officers sued before. I will bet money that the Browns get a good settlement out of this. Especially now since we had nationwide riots last night.

            • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 09:35

personally, I think the riots hurt them badly. regarding On-Duty officers being sued. Yes, I have seen that also. I think you have to look at the totality of each situation and then make a comparison as to whether or not the cases would be equal.

Riots hurt the community, and a stupid because the community suffers. Like I said, you and I could spend all day digging up names and posting them supporting our individual claims. I will say that I have never seen a high profile case where a settlement was rejected.

                • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" November 26th, 2014 at 10:14

i wont disagree with you about the high profile cases, Typically because I think people just want them to go away.

But as far as the riots go. This has hurt more then just the community. especially when they break out in multiple locations. It makes people turn very unsympathetic.

    Two words: Civil Lawsuit!

    • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 00:15

      two words – Wont Happen

barring any federal case. he was an officer on duty and was not indited by a grand jury. there is no basis.

      • tiredoftea November 26th, 2014 at 00:40

A civil lawsuit charging wrongful death can be successful. As would be the same against the police and town.

        • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 00:51

I disagree. I am sure there is case law out there that wont allow you to sue an officer who had been cleared of wrong doing.

As a 2A activist, we well know all to well. that the police cannot be sued because they have no duty to protect an individual.

          • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 00:56

You are correct. Police are immune from suit for the performance of their jobs unless willful, unreasonable conduct is demonstrated. Negligence or the failure to exercise due care is not enough to create liability. It is called qualified immunity.

            • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 05:08

Yes, that is why Sean Bell’s killers in New York City, when they were cleared were sued as well as the City of New York, and Sean Bell’s wife to be got multi-millions.

              • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 06:48

Because a judge lifted the stay on the lawsuit, which was settled for the money, as voted by the corp council.
Let me be clear, anyone can sue anyone anytime now. I was talking about the norm and w/no special circumstances. If they go after the cop, defense will be as stated above. If they go after the city, jury nullification or settlement is always possible.

                • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 07:18

I will bet anyone that the family gets a settlement. I have lived in Detroit, Chicago, and New York City, and I have never seen one lawsuit case against the police department which wasn’t either settled out of court, or granted in a trial. Sorry that I cannot look at your side. I look at what I have been witness too.

                  • Spirit of America November 26th, 2014 at 08:23

And I’ve seen in the city I lived in at the time, 2 different times, it getting thrown out.
And I’m not taking a side, was just talking about law. Like I said above, anyone can sue anyone over anything at anytime. Some make it, some don’t.

                    • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 09:10

One case in Detroit where the guy was armed and turned on the officer. The officer killed the kid. His family tried to sue and they lost. I have never seen a case where the subject was unarmed where the case was thrown out.

          • tiredoftea November 26th, 2014 at 01:16

He hasn’t been cleared of wrongdoing as there has been no trial. As a self styled 2A activist, your grasp of law is as suspect as your understanding of that amendment.

            • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 09:44

Actually, this case is pretty much over contrary to your chagrin. By returning a no true bill on probable cause for any of the criminal charges will pretty much exonerate him. What is different about his case versus that of being a civilian, is that as an officer, he will be afforded a greater immunity. Especially in the situation where the physical evidence will show that Mike Brown assaulted him first.

              • tiredoftea November 26th, 2014 at 13:15

                How little you know.

                • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 13:20

                  I guess we will see

                • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 13:21

Didn’t notice the “mod” to your name. I guess a congratulations is in order?

          • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 05:07

Get off of Florida Stand Your Ground law, which has nothing to do with Missouri. I just heard experts saying tonight that a civil lawsuit against both the officer and the town would be easy to win.

            • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 09:45

Nothing to do with stand your ground.

              • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 09:53

You’re correct! That is why they can be sued.

                • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 09:59

I am sure they will try. as far as it being successful. I highly doubt it. With no criminal charges. Doubtful any federal or civil right charges. It will be very difficult to overcome.

                  • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 10:15

Sean Bell, and many many others. Sorry – I can look up and post a successful lawsuit for every unsuccessful one you post.

          • Hirightnow November 26th, 2014 at 07:44

Refusal to indict =/= clearing of wrongdoing.

      • William November 26th, 2014 at 02:04

The rules of evidence are different in a civil suit. So is the level of proof. In a criminal case it’s beyond a doubt. In a civil case it’s based upon a preponderance of the evidence IE O.J. Simpson.
I’m fairly certain there will be a civil lawsuit.

      • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 05:05

Obviously, you don’t understand how the system works. William is correct! The Browns will get a settlement from both Ferguson and the homely officer.

        • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 10:02

I am very aware of how the system works. Where I think you fail to recognize is this was an event that happened while the officer was on duty, Brown assaulted wilson. No criminal charges, Highly doubt any federal or civil right charges pending. Officer will have certain immunities afforded to him.

          • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 10:13

Yes, and? I have seen on duty officers sued before. I will bet money that the Browns get a good settlement out of this. Especially now since we had nationwide riots last night.

            • Pistol-Packing November 26th, 2014 at 10:35

personally, I think the riots hurt them badly. regarding On-Duty officers being sued. Yes, I have seen that also. I think you have to look at the totality of each situation and then make a comparison as to whether or not the cases would be equal.

              • joe barry November 26th, 2014 at 11:00

I haven’t found a pure angel in this entire event yet, mistakes have been made all around, from the direct participants to the media to the pundits… all around. What I have found is a lack of ability for people to understand/admit that no player in this has no responsibility in the sad event.

No matter what side of the aisle you are on. You have to see that this is a grieving father. If one has any compassion, then you can imagine that it is very painful of anything bad of someone that you love. Whether you want to believe those things or not. It still has to be very painful.
