Darren Wilson Not Indicted In Shooting Death Of Michael Brown

The grand jury’s decision was announced on Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson, who shot an unarmed black teenager to death on August 9th.

County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced that Wilson will not be indicted on charges in the highly publicized case which provoked mostly peaceful protests in the small town.

In the painstakingly long announcement in which McCulloch blamed social media after offering condolences to the Brown family, he ultimately said the grand jury decided no probable cause exists against Wilson.

At issue for the grand jury was whether Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, will face charges in the shooting death of Brown, 18, who was black.

Brown was unarmed when Wilson shot him but the facts of that fatal moment are disputed.

Ed Magee, a spokesman for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said the 12-member grand jury had to decide whether Wilson should be charged with any of several possible crimes, including: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter.

The 28-year-old officer reportedly told the grand jury that he feared for his life as Brown came at him. Some witnesses previously said Brown was trying to surrender and had his hands up.

Brown, 18, and Johnson, 22, were walking in the middle of the street, heading to Johnson’s house, when Wilson confronted them, after reports of a shoplifting incident.

Wilson reportedly told the young men either “Get the f*** on the sidewalk” or “Get the f*** out of the street,” according to police and media accounts of the event.

What happened next is up to speculation, however, Johnson said that they said we’re “not but a minute away from our destination, and we would shortly be out of the street.”

Johnson said, “At no point in time did they struggle over the weapon because the weapon was already drawn on us.”

But others say there was a struggle and videos were leaked to the media by law enforcement officials, to portray the deceased as a “thug.”

Activist Shaun King writes, “For 104 days, the police have lied and said Mike Brown was killed 35 feet away from Darren Wilson’s SUV. It was actually 148 feet,” in a Daily Kos post which has gone viral.

Ferguson has come under fire for the militarization of their police force, a town which is inhabits only 21,111 residents, with a largely black population.

Apparently, the grand jury felt that lethal force was justifiable, a decision which has already been speculated on the Internet long before it was announced. 100 FBI agents were dispatched to the town. Schools have been shut down. Michael Brown’s family called for calm just before the anticipated grand jury decision.

Calls for peace and restraint also emanated from President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, civil-rights leaders and business owners.

Michael Brown’s name should be honored. The slain teenager’s family has asked for 4.5 minutes of silence after the announcement.

The tear gas has just come out. Someone smashed the windows of a police car. Police are side to side across the street with guns moving everyone back. The President is speaking trying to turn this into a positive happening to stop this. And the police keep marching down the street with their guns and tear gas to move everyone out. Someone down thread that they heard shots fired. I can turn off the TV and go to bed and not have to watch what is going on. I’m white. We do not live in Furgeson. My family is safe. I have never had to worry about the police shooting one of my kids walking down the middle of the street.

I just turned it back to regular programming. Not because I don’t care about this,, but it hurts me to watch American turn against American because of the color of their skin. For almost 3 years I had Hospice workers come in and take care of my very sick husband. His favorite nurses were the black ones. They took such good care of him and made him happy. I couldn’t wait to see our girl from Congo come smiling up the walk and always had a big high five for him. He relaxed because she truly loved him and treated him like her own father. The man we had had huge feet and hands and he always felt so safe and he sang to him thru his whole bath and shaved him like an old barber! When the little Spanish ex-marine medic just back from 3 tours in Iraq walked in my heart just sank. My husband was big. 10 minutes later, all worries were gone. He picked him up like he was a puppy and was as gentle as anyone could be and always had the most beautiful smile on his face. We never saw the color of their skin after that! They were excellent nurses! When they learned he had died, they all broke down and cried and said he was a beautiful kind man. 3 weeks ago, Julie brought out her new baby that we watched grow till she could no longer lift him and her other two children to meet us. She cried so hard she couldn’t stay to the end. There’s some white dudes around here I would never want to meet in a dark place. It’s not the color, it’s the attitude! This whole thing just makes me sick. I have a neighbor that is a Sheriff. We live in the country. He was always the first one here when I dialed 911. He’s come running into the house wearing his gun in his holster. I have never been afraid of him or his gun. He treated my husband like his own father. Picked him u so gently and stayed until rescue got here. But I wouldn’t want to cross him. Have no reason too. We had a neighbor shoot and kill his grandson in the drive for not paying back money he had loaned to him. But he didn’t shoot the old guy and he had a gun too. He talked him down and they handcuffed him. But they didn’t shoot him first! He’s in his 50’s and doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder or trained by the military. I would trust him with my life. Just as I would the 3 dark skinned nurses who came to my house 3 days a week for 3 years. I couldn’t watch anymore of those cops provoking the protestors! Have this overwhelming feeling had it been a black cop and a white kid we would have never seen this and the trial woud have taken place and he would be in an orange suit behind bars so fast we would have missed the whole thing!

Whats right is right, you can’t throw racism in on every single encounter with a white police officer and a minority. Protester’s stealing liquor and McDonald’s hamburgers and burning business, what kind of person does this? If you don’t like the rule of law and can’t follow laws, you don’t belong within city limits.

It’s an introduction to discipline, this could be shocking to some, I find burning building’s, damaged police cars and businesses looted disturbing, were the same teens stealing liquor or McD’s.

Can we have some truth here? Why is the political affiliation of those in charge in Ferguson never mentioned? I just found out that the prosecutor is a DEMOCRAT. Yep, that’s right a DEMOCRAT. As is Missouri governor Jay Nixon. So once more we see the results of DEMOCRATS in charge.

    • William November 25th, 2014 at 08:38

So which one of those (prosecutor or Governor) sat on the grand jury?

    • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 08:49

Not so much truth as full disclosure.
But it does put an interesting twist to this because many say “that republican is bigot or biased etc and that is why they got off”… and often say only repubs are. I have noticed no one is blaming a party affiliation at all in this case.
      Interesting.

Democrats have been running things politically for the past 25 years. And there are some who have realized that they haven’t been served all that well.

“Democrats have been running things politically for the past 25 years”
What country are you living in? Surely not the US.

It’s not a partisan issue, but it is political. It’s not about the justice system, but it is about the law. It’s not about Darren Willson, but it is about cops. It’s not about Michael Brown, but it is about angry young men. President Obama made it clear last night just after the announcement, “…This is about broader challenges that we still face as a nation.”

I just found out that the prosecutor is a DEMOCRAT.

      ______

      So?
He is VERY close to the police and his own father was a police officer who was killed by an African American…. hence the calls for him to recuse himself.

He handled himself as if he was the defense att.

None of this comes as a surprise to me and shouldn’t to anyone else. From the beginning MB was portrayed as a thug. DW was looked at as a cop in fear of his life. No matter what MB did he was looked at as the aggressor and DW the defender. Cops “win” almost every time with this kind of scenario. Riots and burnings only compound the problem. Cops using force to stop the violence are looked at as “doing their jobs”. This kind of scenario will likely be repeated in the future. Until the systemic problem of racial profiling and stereotyping is removed from the mentality of law enforcement and the justice system in general this will likely be repeated in the future…

I ;posted this below, but will again, as it addresses the legal issues surrounding this Grand Jury and the Prosecutor…

Justice did NOT prevail in this case, and the results will be long lasting.
