Robert Plant Rips Up $800 Million Led Zeppelin Reunion Contract

Posted by | November 9, 2014 21:07 | Filed under: Top Stories

No amount of money can get Robert Plant to reunite with his Led Zeppelin bandmates.

The 66-year-old singer walked away from a 35-date tour that would have paid the rock group nearly $800 million — ripping up the contract in front of stunned promoters, the Mirror newspaper reported Sunday.

British tycoon Sir Richard Branson had planned to reunite the Stairway to Heaven rockers and promoters had even gotten the green light from the other band members.

The mega deal would have paid Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones roughly $300 million apiece, before taxes, according to The Mirror.

Group members lobbied hard for Plant to join in but he wouldn’t change his mind.

“They have tried to talk him round but there is no chance,” a source close to the group told the Mirror. “His mind is made up and that’s that.”

Money is just money??? You reach a time in your life and know that old times are just that and not worthy of mention in current times???

He could be saving Page from embarrassment. I hear he is practically incompetent from some sort of dementia.

Sort of like Glen Campbells finial ‘dementia’ tour…
The guy was great in his time, but I think they milked him on his farewell tour..(sort of sad)

Really? Well, that could certainly explain it. I’m sure he doesn’t need the cash. I was thinking there might be some bad blood between the band mates.

Page was featured, along with The Edge from U2, in Jack White’s rockumentary “It Might Get Loud” a few years ago. He certainly didn’t look or sound demented then, but things can change. He was very much living the life of a country squire. None of them need the money.

I saw Zeppelin way back in 76…(Blues arena, St. Louis)
I dont think I would pay to see theses aging rockers again..
I doubt they need the money..
    Or need the exercise.

There is a time to fly high, and a time to lay low..(and enjoy life)

Saw Robert Plant when he came to Tucson in 2010. He did a lot of his solo stuff and a surprising amount of bluegrass, and his choices of Zeppelin tunes, like “Gallows Pole” and “Misty Mountain Hop”, were a delight. But I don’t blame him for not wanting to be roped into doing “Stairway To Heaven” a bunch of times on tour, regardless of the money. I’ve gotten sick of that song just hearing it overplayed on Clear Channel stations, let alone having to perform it. I really think Bob has considered Zeppelin to be a dead entity ever since his dear friend John Bonham died.

How can there be a Led Zeppelin reunion without Jon Bonham?

Must be nice to be in a position where you can say no to that kind of money.

Too bad he doesn’t want to do it, then donate the money to charities. $100 million (after taxes) could feed, clothe or shelter a lot of hungry people. So I don’t want to hear him ever bitch about the poor.

    • fahvel November 10th, 2014 at 09:28

all three should commit to that – real fn heros then! Otherwise, old men in T shirts – ah hell, old men in T shirts are cool.

People need to leave Plant alone. He has stated numerous times in the past that he was not interested in a reunion tour because he feels that once John Bonham died Led Zeppelin ceased to exist. Obviously the money is not important to him either…
