Under McConnell-Boehner Plan 1 Million Would Lose Health Care Coverage

They’re trying to make a plan that stinks smell like a rose, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal outlining a plan that would stop a million Americans from receiving health care. They try to make it sound like they’re acting in the best interest of average Americans:

These bills include measures authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which will mean lower energy costs for families and more jobs for American workers; the Hire More Heroes Act, legislation encouraging employers to hire more of our nation’s veterans; and a proposal to restore the traditional 40-hour definition of full-time employment, removing an arbitrary and destructive government barrier to more hours and better pay created by the Affordable Care Act of 2010.

But the opposite is true. Under the plan

…employers could avoid providing health coverage to workers who put in less than 40 hours a week — up from the law’s current 30-hour threshold.

The move is backed by business groups such as the National Retail Federation and the National Restaurant Association. The measure, which would face a presidential veto, would make it easier for employers to shift more workers to part-time status and avoid buying insurance or paying fines under a provision of the law taking effect at the end of the year.

The likely result: A million people would lose employer- paid health care and have to look for subsidized coverage on government insurance exchanges or go on Medicaid, according to the Congressional Budget Office. That’s just the opening round.

What I think will be interesting to watch will be the governor’s race in Kentucky, especially if SCOTUS took King because they have the 5 justices to write new legislation, and a Republican governor would discontinue KyNect.

Would Kentuckians have to acknowledge that their much beloved KyNect IS actually, their much hated “Obamacare”??

In 2011 turtlehead was the largest recipient of oil and gas campaign money. I’m surprised more people didn’t see this coming.

The Keystone pipeline might, and I emphasize might, lead to slightly lower gasonline prices since it will slightly increase the supply of oil and refined products on the market. It only takes a few dozen workers to lay the pipeline and it’s also likely that those jobs will disappear as soon as the pipeline is completed. The refineries that the oil will go to are already built and staffed so there’s no jobs to had there. What jobs are they lying about?

A whole 35 jobs is estimated. It is more like a Keystone pipedream, gas prices won’t go down and this gas isn’t even guaranteed to be used here, it is a free market and the highest price will always win.
