Teacher Resigns After Being Put On Leave For Ebola For No Reason

Posted by | November 7, 2014 07:11 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Kentucky put a Susan Sherman on leave for 21 days because she had just come back from Kenya. There is no Ebola in Kenya.

The school, however, took steps out of an abundance of caution. They placed her on leave for a 21-day period. Sherman blasted the school’s decision as ignorance, because again, Kenya doesn’t have Ebola.

Ebola fears all over the country have led to schools panicking and keeping students and teachers away because of community concerns, even in cases where the people in question hadn’t visited Ebola-stricken nations.

    “Catholic School”.
    “Ignorance”
    Not mutually exclusive.

It may have more to do with Kentucky than Catholic.

Talk about your ‘perfect storm’ of ignorance: Catholic and Kentucky. ….

At least the KY Catholics know to laugh at the Creation Museum. The rest of the Protestants in that state think it’s a National Memorial or Smithsonian Institute.

This would be akin to refusing to eat a chicken raised in Maine because a chicken raised in California was sick.

Don’t Kentucky Catholic schools teach geography? Or is that considered one of Satan’s tools…..

    • allison1050 November 7th, 2014 at 09:35

Lay teachers in the Catholic school system that’s what the problem is.

      • Larry Schmitt November 7th, 2014 at 09:49

As if nuns are any better? Our nuns had the straight ruler martial arts training, that was the only difference.

But they were Larry. I was sent to a Catholic boarding school at age 4 it was run like my mother’s home. I see you survived the ruler what about the yard stick? The bar of Ivory soap? The nuns when I was a kid made it out of high school but had been taught how to teach by the others. I survived.

From my experience, neither the nuns nor the lay teachers would have been qualified to teach at a public school, where they at least would need a certificate. For the most part, the only qualification the lay teachers needed was to be a member of the parish. The nuns specialized in humiliating people. Standing in a trash can in the corner for talking, standing with your nose inside a circle drawn on the blackboard for I don’t remember what. One kid had to wear a wad of gum on the end of his nose.

They didn’t have lay teachers when I was a kid. Let’s face it the teachers in public schools aren’t actually “qualified” to teach either. The Catholic schools began to accept state funds and that’s how the lay teachers got in, take the state money take their teachers.

I checked the map out of curiosity, and Kenya is over 4000 miles from Liberia.

And what does this say about the idiots running school districts and schools…that they can’t find their way around a map and nooo you wouldn’t want to ride to the next state over with 1 of them ’cause you’d probably wind up 6 states over.
