Pat Buchanan: Joni Ernst ‘Enormously Attractive’ Like Palin And Bachmann

Posted by | November 5, 2014 17:18 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Pat Buchanan has weighed in the Iowa Senate victory of Joni Ernst.

Buchanan began by calling Ernst and “enormously attractive figure” and “a gal with a real sense of humor and a fighting spirit.” He added that she “has the same kind of attractiveness that Sarah Palin had at the start and that Michele Bachmann gained in the Iowa caucuses, I mean, being a very attractive, outspoken person, a woman in the GOP full of passion and full of hard-core philosophy.”

Just days ago, outgoing Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) got in hot water for implying that Ernst is “as good-looking at Taylor Swift.”

“I was very offended that Senator Harkin would say that,” Ernst told Fox News of Harkin’s comment. “If my name had been John Ernst attached to my resume, Senator Harkin would not have said those things.”

Will she mind being compared to Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann in a similar way by a member of her own party?

Great! She’d the darling of the extreme right’s xenophobia and white supremacist branch!

And according to Buchanan’s standards, cuz GOPer beauty is most important, they may also be great in bed under the confederate flag sheets.

I soooo didn’t want that visual before dinner!

Remember, just a few days ago, when she used the “War on women” meme in some weird analogy? You can f’ing bet she won’t say something about this asshat who supports her, though his comment lessens her value as woman since that is the most important attribute he sees in her. Seesh, if that is acceptable to her, she fits the “dumb as a bag hammers” to a “T”!

          • tiredoftea November 5th, 2014 at 19:52

There’s a lot of hammers in that big “T” bag tent!

If we could only keep them hammering instead of screwing……up the country.

          • ChrisVosburg November 6th, 2014 at 12:18

Ernst, whose combat experience consisted of conducting convoys between Kuwait and Southern Iraq during Operation Iraq Freedom, said “first, I am a woman and second, I have been to war, I am a combat veteran. This is not a war on women and any time Democrats are using the word war they need to do it to honor our service men and women.”

Fine, tell it to the Republicans who can’t stop repeating the phrase over and over in an attempt to create a phony narrative. It isn’t Democrats working the phrase to death, it’s Ernst’s own party’s pundits and politicians claiming that Democrats are accusing Republicans of conducting one.

A Michele Bachman comment is typical, in characterizing Nancy Pelosi’s opposition to a typically nasty piece of Republican legislation: “She wants to continue this fiction that every Democrat messenger is trying to put forward, which is there’s a war on women. There is no war on women. There’s never been a war on women.”

See, Nancy Pelosi never used the phrase; Michele Bachman did.

So perhaps Joni should confine her complaints to member of her own party, and while she’s at it, maybe she can get them to knock off the equally offensive “War on Christmas” meme to boot.

I just ate dinner myself…spaghetti with meat (ground turkey) sauce and Parmesan cheese.
Frankly, I’m just glad that it’s staying down.
Even after what I just read…FSM be merciful!

I said that all females on Liberalland were as attractive as Taylor Swift and then Taylor Swift removed all her songs from Spotify. Do you think there is a correlation?

  3. Kick Frenzy November 5th, 2014 at 17:41

The worst part is that Harkin never said she was attractive like Taylor Swift.
His actual quote is, “I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa.”

He had mentioned that other people had told him she’s attractive, but he never made that distinction himself.
Which also means he had nothing to apologize for.

    • tiredoftea November 5th, 2014 at 19:46

When have those clowns ever gotten a quote right, or in context when it suits their purposes to be “outraged”?

    • Tommy6860 November 5th, 2014 at 19:51

Context is unimportant to the wingers (they don’t get context anyway) when they can take advantage of it. It’s the same thing as when the GOP tried in 2012 to use the “You didn’t build that…” meme.

    • burqa November 5th, 2014 at 19:58

      I disagree.
He shouldn’t bring up her looks, period.
It’s also no good to try the weasely “I hear other people saying” – argument.
      Come on.
The only reason to do so is to say something and duck responsibility by saying other people said it.
Bill Murray did the same thing in “Stripes,” where he said,
“It’s true, Sergeant Hulka has no dick……..Well it’s what I heard!”

      • Kick Frenzy November 5th, 2014 at 20:15

He wasn’t commenting on her looks.

        It went like this…
Harkin hears people talking about Ernst as being attractive, inferring it makes her a better candidate.
Harking decides to refer to that when saying it doesn’t matter how nice she looks or how nice she acts, if she votes like Bachmann she’s no good for America.

He could’ve just as easily said it doesn’t matter if she talks like Oprah or sings like Sinatra, if she sucks at her job, she sucks as hard no matter what other adjectives can describe her.

        • ChrisVosburg November 6th, 2014 at 02:17

You’re exactly right, Kick, that Harkin is emphatically denying the validity of outward appearances in evaluating a candidate.

Again, in a fuller context, here’s what Harkin actually said:

In this Senate race, I’ve been watching some of these ads, and there’s sort of this sense that, “Well, I hear so much about Joni Ernst. She is really attractive, and she sounds nice.”

… Well, I got to thinking about that. I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa.

Again, he is emphatically not saying that she is as attractive as Taylor Swift, or nice as Mr Rogers. He is saying that it is irrelevant, and he is saying that her political views are as wack as those of Michele Bachman, a hardly remarkable statement.

Ernst managed to cherry pick what he said to diffuse the full import of the condemnation and to their discredit, the media went along with it.

spiritual beauty shines from within and beautifies it’s clay confinements beyond all perceptions. For beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Mortal life is but a brief vapor, but spiritual life is forever and forever and forever. Thou art beautiful, Anomaly 100 and I love thee. Wheresoever thy spirit may be will be my love also

[and as you know, my pocket bulge is a 3/4″ diameter by 2 3/4 ” long canister of pepper spray!] -that’s pepper -as in p e p p e r hot stuff! goes great with leather and chains!!!

What a pig Buchanan is! While I couldn’t care less for Ernst, Bachmann, etals, it’s this kind sexist thinking that drives me nuts. I can hear the fapping going on as he made this comment. Yea, they are great GOPers for women because, “attractiveness” while they revert us to pre-Civil War social status..

At first I was going to react as a number of others have, below, but then looked again and it appears Buchannan is referring to her attractiveness to voters and not her physical aspects, the way Harkin did.
Harkin must be on drugs, by the way.

Let’s say I’m wrong and Buchannan was indeed referring to her looks. In that case, he and Harkin BOTH deserve to be clubbed. To only criticize one is to appear hypocritical and using this to resort to phony “outrage” in an attack on political foes while not really seeing the real issue here.

Shame on those, below, who pretended to be outraged and gave Harkin a pass.

Running through the comments below, I was struck by what I feel to be a sort of denial of the subconscious level on which political candidates, like anyone else, may affect our perception of them.

To illustrate what I’m talking about, simply substitute the word “charismatic” for “attractive.” See what I mean?

Also disregard the comment I left just below this one, which is just poking fun at Creepy Pat Buchanan, who needs to be poked, with a sharp stick, and often.
