Walmart Website: Shock Your Friends With This Islamic Costume

Can you imagine the headline: “Shock your friends with this Christian costume? Or: Shock your friends with this Jewish costume? But Walmart wants you to “Shock your friends with the Muslim costume.”

Qasim Rashid, as spokesperson for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA has discovered the “Mens Pashtun Papa Costume,” which consists of vaguely-Middle Eastern looking garb and a long beard. The description for the item reads, “Nothing is sacred this Halloween. Shock your friends with this Islamic costume.”

Upon being exposed by the Internets, Walmart took the offering down from its website.

Walmart has removed the Pashtun costume from its website. In astatement, Brooke Buchanan, senior director of Walmart Corporate Communications said that it was being sold through Costume Kingdom, one of Walmart’s third-party vendors:

“When it was brought to our attention on social media, we began working to pull this down. We are deeply sorry that this costume is on our website, and we are pulling it down as soon as possible. We are calling on all of the other retailers to pull it down as well. We have strict policies with our third party vendors, and it’s very important to us that products on the site don’t offend groups of people, or minorities.”

If it’s an adult costume and it doesn’t offend – it’s not doing its job. Good grief people it’s Halloween. And Walmart.

It was disappointing not to win, but overall such a great feeling in KC since the WIldCard game – it’s changed how the city is seen. All said, it was a great run made by some talented and classy young men. I’ve never seen a team lose with as much grace.

I’ve never seen one pitcher dominate a team like that in the World Series since Mickey Lolich pitched 3 complete games against the Cardinals in 68. Bumgarner was almost unhittable.

I always enjoy watching a class act.

      But it does offend.
It’s saying if you’re Islamic, then you are inherently “shocking”.

      Basically, it’s bigotry.

What I would like to know … is why does it take social media to point out how badly written that description is? Or the fact that it’s insulting. Does Wally world also sell Sarah Palin Costumes in camo complete with six pack and bruises?
