Open Carry Group Inadvertently Backs Moms Group: Do Not Carry Long Guns Into Stores (Images)

Posted by | October 27, 2014 14:01 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

When an extremist group such as Ohio Carry inadvertently admits to agreeing with Moms Demand Action, the gun sense group, then perhaps they should read their own words. As reported here yesterday, to counter the Moms gun sense group gathering at Kroger headquarters, Ohio Carry is calling on gun owners to go to all Kroger stores nationwide with their guns — but without their long guns, and instead conceal their weapons.

The group states:

But once again, we are learning from our mistakes. We are asking that people either conceal or keep it to handguns only! We don’t want this to even be about guns; we want to show Kroger support for standing by their beliefs and not backing down to bullies, and we want to do that in a way that causes them no PR harm as well. Starbucks was a learning point, and we would be remiss not to learn from the past.

The leader of the event in which gun owners are called upon to pile into Kroger stores with their weapons on the same day, Brett, wrote an opinion piece in July stating, “Some people ask why it is necessary to open carry when you can conceal. While concealed carry is a great way to carry (and I do so sometime), there are still many benefits to open carrying. One might be a comfort issue. Some guns cannot be concealed and must be carried openly in a holster. I carry a Springfield XD Tactical .45 with a 5-inch barrel. Can I conceal it? Sure, but is it very comfortable? Not at all.”

So it’s not about protection. It’s about his own personal comfort while the public feels uncomfortable with his military-style presence.

We don’t want Open Carriers feeling unsafe in Kroger now, do we?

Brett adds, “Another pro is that it does not require a license. While you are going through the process of getting your CHL, you could be open carrying in the meantime.”

You see Brett, right there we have a problem. If there is no license required and we don’t know you or who your friends are, then how are we to determine who the ‘good guy with a gun’ is? Especially without a license.

But thank you for admitting that carrying long guns in Kroger is completely ‘against our policies and beliefs.” We agree on that, as do Moms Demand Action.

I did not use Brett’s last name. I would hate for him to be harassed by Open Carriers who disagree with his freely admitted stance, which is in opposition to other groups.

That’s right, Kroger. Don’t cave in to the zealots. End Open Carry in family friendly establishments or risk more bad behavior.

Brett asserts on Twitter in a conversation with me that his group contains “every denomination, race, and creed as members.”

Pictures tell another story

This won’t be Brett’s first time confronting a protest for gun sense while openly carrying firearms.

Don’t all races wear “Don’t tread on me” t-shirts?

Brett’s diverse group which isn’t diverse at all.

How Ohio Carry spends a religious holiday.

The best and brightest have Ohio Carry’s back:

I did communicate with Brett via email before publishing this post. If he has anything he would like to say on behalf of his group, I’d be happy to add it.

Big hugs to my friend out there for her awesomeness.

It’s hard to believe that Harry and Lloyd could have so many children.

    Actually, some prefer the hats.

I dont see the point in the headline ??? “Open Carry Group Inadvertently Backs Moms Group: Do Not Carry Long Guns Into Stores ”

I dont see it as backing “Moms”, because moms want ALL guns banned. I personally see it as they want to offer support to Krogers, while not giving the MOMS any opportunity for false PR. Contrary to popular belief, MOMS have a tendency to lie and be not truthful in many things they attempt to present.

MOMS has no intention of dialogue to find any common ground. In matter of fact, if you make a comment of anything in the contrary to something that is said or posted, you are immediately banned. So I can see how this group would not want to give MOMS any opportunity.

    • Anomaly 100 October 27th, 2014 at 14:39

No, they do not want an all out ban of firearms.

      • Pistol-Packing October 27th, 2014 at 14:48

When it comes to carrying in public. yes they do. Whether concealed or Open Carry.

        • Anomaly 100 October 27th, 2014 at 14:58

Concealed doesn’t bother me. Open Carry does.

          • Pistol-Packing October 27th, 2014 at 15:09

You know through our conversations I dont support Open Carry in certain environments. But I also dont object to it where it is appropriate either.

But carrying a AR-15 across your back, while shopping in downtown Dallas, is not one of them.

            • Anomaly 100 October 27th, 2014 at 15:18

On an aside: How have you been? Haven’t seen you around for awhile.

Ha! Yes, I got the squirt gun thingy your recommended. I Open Carry it around my house. But now my BFF started feeding the cat so I’m toast.

I hope this isn’t my last post. This cat wants me dead.

I only wish the best for you. I hope your IRL stuff goes well. Your wife is gorgeous by the way.

PP wonders why: if you make a comment of anything in the contrary to something that is said or posted, you are immediately banned

Perhaps you grossly mischaracterized their position as “wanting all guns banned” and when patiently corrected, instead of apologizing, you backpedaled to mischaracterizing it as “when it comes to carrying in public, they do,” and they decided to ban you because you were being dishonest and rude.

By the way, you got PP on yer handle there. :-)

      • Pistol-Packing October 27th, 2014 at 16:02

no Back Pedaling.. practical experience with them. They cant come out right and say what the want. So they have to do it in other ways. And yes, I have been Banned from them, because I disagreed with their position on something.

Reading my own comment, I see how I wrote something wrong. It s not that they want all guns Banned, they want all guns in public banned. Concealed or Open.

Sorry if I find it difficult to take the above link seriously… The VERY FIRST “news item” (or whatever you call it) has the headline: “Ohio man…” and then the intro says it happened in Chillicothe OH. Of course, it was a MISSOURI man (from Wheeling, actually) and the shooting happened in Chillicothe MISSOURI. You’ll forgive me if I discount all the rest of it as rather incoherent ramblings.

      • Obewon October 28th, 2014 at 19:07

Sorry that you’re too dim to click on the linked articles debunking you as grossly uninformed e.g. [For a listing of the 83 different 2013 shooting incidents, go HERE. http://walmartshootings.blogspot.com/p/running-list-of-2013-walmart-shooting.html For a listing of WalMart’s 53 different 2012 shooting incidents, go HERE http://newtrajectory.blogspot.com/2012/09/walmart-shootings.html (That number was surpassed in October of 2013.)]
        1. So far in 2014, non-shooting incidents have included WalMart’s 51 armed robberies with guns, 11 incidents of guns and ammo stolen, and other crimes. http://walmartshootings.blogspot.com/

This is what we run into when folks don’t read. As I said, the very first blog posting got the state of residence the shooter and location of the shooting wrong. Gee, how would I know that? Why, I did exactly what you suggested – I clicked through on the linked news article. So I’m sorry if I’m not going to bother taking the time to verify – or debunk – the rest of your “statistics.”
I’m not sure what your point is about the Michigan mailing service address for OFCC is.

Sorry that you’re too dim to click on any linked articles debunking you as grossly misinformed e.g.
        2. Only 3 shootings were ruled as legitimate self defense (other than law enforcement).

Proving that you're a debunked delusional was even easier e.g.
Persecutory: People with this type of delusional disorder believe that they (or someone close to them) are being mistreated, or that someone is spying on them or planning to harm them. It is not uncommon for people with this type of delusional disorder to make repeated complaints to legal authorities. http://www.webmd.com/schizophrenia/delusional-disorder
Grandiose: A person with this type of delusional disorder has an over-inflated sense of self-worth, power, knowledge, or identity. The person might believe he or she has a great talent or has made an important discovery.

Mixed: People with this type of delusional disorder have two or more of the types of delusions listed above.

Perhaps I’m slow (my wife frequently says so,) but if it’s not about guns, why do you want people to go to Krogers armed? I bet you don’t want it to be about nudity either, so…

    • Matt Willoughby October 29th, 2014 at 16:13

Should probably finish the rest of the statement, but since you didn’t, I’ll finish it for you.

From Brett on Ohio Carry’s FB Page: “The Kroger Support Day is not about guns. We do not want it to be about guns. We want it to be about showing support to a business who is standing up to bullies and refusing to back down from their intimidation tactics.”

For the slow people in the room, we are supporting a privately run business’s right to choose how they wish to make their own choices and policies, and no feel forced into a political arena. Personally, you all should applaud them for choosing to stay out of it. But that’s coming from an independent Pro-Constitutional, not a conservative or a liberal.

“For the slow people in the room, we are supporting a privately run business’s right to choose how they wish to make their own choices and policies, and no feel forced into a political arena.”

So, you have a problem with the free market? With freedom of speech of those who disagree with you or Kroger? If you are against businesses feeling forced into the political arena, why the concerted effort to force Kroger customers to deal with people armed and with indeterminate intent or stability in order to get a loaf of bread? Why is carrying weapons a more righteous expression of First Amendment rights than expressing displeasure of the militarization of Kroger, or Piggly Wiggly, or K-mart? Explain it to those of us who are just too slow to see why your rights trump anybody else’s…

        • OldLefty October 31st, 2014 at 07:22

And we should equally support the rights of private patrons (even those in eateries) to leave the premise, (even if they have eaten and not yet paid or have frozen food in their cart), because they see a high risk of great danger, and it is reasonable to get themselves and their families out quickly.

It has nothing to do with the free market or the Constitution.
It has EVERYTHING to do with an industry having a stranglehold on a bought and paid for government.

I agree that you have the right to keep your family safe, and I certainly think that immediately leaving an establishment when guns not on a police officer enter.

I disagree that it has nothing to do with the free market or the constitution. We don’t have a truly free market because, as you say, corporations have bought our government (tho there are success stories of citizens impacting the market a la Dump Rush, anti-fracking groups, and those protesting Keystone XL) And it has to do with the constitution because ours is supposed to be a representative government, not a pay-for-play government.

So, we agree on the problems, but as a vet, I place a much higher value on the constitution. After all, EVERY servicemen pledges:

“”I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

OK, so maybe I mumbled during the “so help me god” part, but I believe the rest of it.

Being prevented from carrying a gun in Target is no different than being prevented from driving down the street at 3am in the morning using a bullhorn to declare your support for a political candidate.

The former does not stifle your 2nd amendment rights, and the latter does not stifle your 1st amendment rights.

And I happen to be a gun owner, so put your misconceptions right back where you found them.

Tracey, how you choose to be a parent to your children is one thing, but please do not presume that you know how to be a parent to mine.

You decide what’s best for your family in the part of the world where you live, and I will do the same for mine. Thanks.

a gun around children is a bad parenting skill, period

Only to the uneducated or unsafe. My step daughter (8) and my oldest son (12) have both had a gun safety course designed for children. And my firearms stay locked up and out of their reach… at all times. You know what they say about opinions Tracey. In this case though, I will refer you back to my previous comment about parenting your children and me parenting mine.

I just went through the entire Ohio Revised Code. Nowhere does it say anything about informing any liberal reporter(s) that you have to inform him (them) whether or not any of Brett’s friends have licenses, (permits).

OR is there any requirement to even inform LEO if your open carrying .

Bad guys with guns are usually shooting at you after they ask for a cash donation.
