Dolly Parton On Her Gay Following: ‘I Completely Love And Accept Them’

Dolly Parton did a sit-down with Billboard magazine.

Dollywood attracts lots of church groups, but it has also become a draw for the LGBT community. What does that say about you?

It’s a place for entertainment, a place for all families, period. It’s for all that. But as far as the Christians, if people want to pass judgment, they’re already sinning. The sin of judging is just as bad as any other sin they might say somebody else is committing. I try to love everybody.

You have a large gay following. To what do you attribute that?

They know that I completely love and accept them, as I do all people. I’ve struggled enough in my life to be appreciated and understood. I’ve had to go against all kinds of people through the years just to be myself. I think everybody should be allowed to be who they are, and to love who they love. I don’t think we should be judgmental. Lord, I’ve got enough problems of my own to pass judgment on somebody else.

    Surely you mean Dolly Parton?

      It’s been corrected.

Good to see as I thought it was a bit awkward to have her name misspelled.

“I think everybody should be allowed to be who they are, and to love who they love.”

    There. Now wasn’t that easy?

    • Larry Schmitt October 25th, 2014 at 12:44

Makes you wonder why no other celeb has had the guts to say it.

It really does. The concept is so simplistic that it takes
longer to explain than to implement. I openly admit that I know zip about the so called “gay lifestyle” (whatever that is), but I suspect it’s just not interesting enough to be an issue. Quite frankly other peoples relationships fall somewhere between the price of dental floss in Equator and where’s Waldo on my list of important stuff.
I also admit that I don’t understand the concept of playing golf, getting a tattoo, cosmetic surgery implants, eating sushi, watching a movie on a three inch smart phone screen, loud motorcycle exhaust, and circling the gym parking lot until you find a really close spot so you can go in and do legs.
I don’t know how Keith Richards and David Crosby are still alive, and I
completely don’t know how anyone can watch a tennis match.

Just because I don’t understand any of the aforementioned doesn’t
mean any of it is evil or worthy of judgment, it just means I don’t
understand it. Ok except maybe watching tennis, I’m pretty sure that’s evil.

There should however be passion about not vilifying people just because of their sexual orientation.
I’m even reluctant to use that phrase, because I suspect there are same sex couples who just live together platonically because they simply like being together.

There is actual sh*t out there that wants to hurt us and damage our world. Who is sleeping with whom just isn’t one of them.

And that’s why it makes so little sense that all these cons obsess so much about teh gays and what they’re doing in their bedrooms and the fact that they want to actually marry each other (the horror!).
And by the way, Waldo is everywhere.

I’ve always admired Dolly–she is probably one of the most down to earth entertainers out there. She’s someone that I would love to have tea and cookies with and shoot the breeze and laugh.

    • Sydney October 25th, 2014 at 16:06

Agree…..and she does have an infectious laugh!

      • M D Reese October 25th, 2014 at 16:13

I feel happy just thinking about her laughing!
