Brad Pitt: ‘I Feel Better Having A Gun’

Posted by | October 14, 2014 16:11 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Brad Pitt thinks it’s so nice to have a gun around the house.

“There’s a rite of passage where I grew up of inheriting your ancestors’ weapons,” Pitt told The Independent. “My brother got my dad’s. I got my grandfather’s shotgun when I was in kindergarten.”

He went on to tell the magazine that he believes having a gun keeps his family safe. “It’s very strange, but I feel better having a gun,” he said. “I don’t feel the house is completely safe if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”

    Wrong!

When you hear glass break in the middle of the night, that’s when you get to decide whether you feel safer with or without a gun in the home.

I’m with you on this one. There’s nothing wrong with having a gun for protection at home. It’s gun bravado, and people showing off in public while openly carrying weapons with a disregard for frightening families that gets to me.

        • Carla Akins October 14th, 2014 at 18:37

You know when we see those videos of cops over-reacting and clearly panic shooting people? That’s me. I know this about me, it would never be a good idea for me to have a gun in the house.

Some folks, responsible people with clear heads and a solid firearms education may find this an option but regardless of intent, not everyone should be a gun owner. I’m just not sure others like me are willing to admit it.

Over half of all gun deaths in the US are suicides. I have personally known four retired men who have used guns in that way. It’s the biggest reason why I have never purchased a gun for home defense. To put it simply: I don’t trust myself.

You are correct! If you have a bad temper and often regret your past actions…OR….you could not kill a person, then don’t own a gun.

        • mea_mark October 14th, 2014 at 18:41

I just hope the gun isn’t in the room where I heard the glass break.

            Oh, YOU!

          • tiredoftea October 14th, 2014 at 18:49

Or, its not SWAT cops attacking the wrong house. Or, your cat. Or, your friend. Or, your spouse eating a snack and dropping the pickle jar.

            • Clear_view October 14th, 2014 at 23:33

Don’t own a gun if you’re the jumpy nervous blade runner type.

That’s when a cool head and good sa comes into play. If one is prone to panic then a gun is not a good idea, it’ll do more harm than good regardless of situation. It is a personal assessment and choice.
I agree w/what Carla Akins wrote below, was a good approach at self-awareness.

The courts have already found that in the instances of no knock warrant searches the home owner is in the right to use deadly force. That is if the other SWAT officers don’t shoot him before he is arrested.

I’ll go one step further. Concealed permit that requires background check and training makes me feel safer when I have to inspect my business late night. Nobody knows I have a gun and thats the proper way.

          • Anomaly 100 October 15th, 2014 at 06:03

Funny thing is, Open Carry advocates call me a ‘gun grabber’ when in fact if a gun is used for protection (as it’s meant to be), I have no problem with it. But when activists frighten others who are trying to have some family time, I take issue with that.

      • NMAXXS October 14th, 2014 at 18:37

I feel perfectly safe without one and it would never occur to me to think having one would make me feel safe for any reason.

still a frightened fool I see.

        • R.J. Carter October 15th, 2014 at 08:49

Actually, not scared of a damned thing.

          • Knetter October 16th, 2014 at 12:14

Actually you are afraid of breaking glass! I don’t need a gun in my house to protect myself, its my space. I know my way around. In the dark with my eyes covered, never mind the fact that i know where theres plenty dull weapons to really make what I’m about to do painful. You can come into my house with a gun, I’ll make you regret it. The only thing the neighbors will hear is your screams.

If you think you as so tough, why don’t you post a sign in your front yard and on the inter webs stating your challenge.

what`s Wrong is when you feel you have to parade around with it, as if that’s what keeps you safe.

Brad Pitt hails from Missouri…(as I do)
    It’s a cultural thing..
    I also have guns..(rifles and a shotgun))
But they do nothing more than collect dust in a closet.
They do not make me feel safe, and I do not brandish them outdoors. (I dont hunt either)
I often ask myself why I dont sell them..
I’m going to out on a limb here and guess that Brad Pitt is no more of a gun nut than I
    am.

I always have a loaded shotgun by the front door. No children around and rattle snakes are a problem, so it is a solution to a very real problem.

      • tiredoftea October 14th, 2014 at 18:50

        Until the rattlers grow fingers.

I had a raccoon in the kitchen once. Mean, mean ass critters. It seems that if you scream like a banshee that has lost her mind – they flee.

        • mea_mark October 14th, 2014 at 19:14

I shot one in my kitchen once, directly in the head with a .22 rifle. One of the biggest messes I ever had to clean up, it flopped around all over the place breaking things and spraying blood everywhere. Next time I will wait for them to leave.

          • Carla Akins October 14th, 2014 at 19:18

We closed off the “kittie” door after that incident.

you’re proud of it? – sounds sick to me.

what else do you plan on killing? – a stick works better than a shot gun and nothing dies.
