Greenwald: A Second Leaker Inside U.S. Intelligence

Glenn Greenwald says there is another leaker working inside the U.S. intelligence community, in addition to Edward Snowden.

Towards the end of filmmaker Laura Poitras’s portrait of Snowden – titled Citizenfour, the label he used when he first contacted her – Greenwald is seen telling Snowden about a second source.

Snowden, at a meeting with Greenwald in Moscow, expresses surprise at the level of information apparently coming from this new source. Greenwald, fearing he will be overheard, writes the details on scraps of paper.

The specific information relates to the number of the people on the US government’s watchlist of people under surveillance as a potential threat or as a suspect. The figure is an astonishing 1.2 million.

    The Federal government’s citizen surveillance apparatus needs to be ripped apart, roots and all. If Snowden is simply one and not the only, then there is hope that we can learn more about the illegal activities that restricts our freedom and hampers our democracy.

    1.2 million, they must be including the 3%’s and other far-right wacko’s.

    Every once in a while they show up to seek more attention, I’m just so tired of these people. Edward Snowden became hero to some who were in deep coma since 911 for betraying his country, and then he ran to Putin and the enemies of U.S.

    Any news about his famous girlfriend who also joined him in Russia?

    First, it is not a “leaker” it is a “traitor.”

    Second, if this is in fact true, then catch this one before he escapes to either China or Russia to give secret documents to those countries.

      And Greenwald ignores the privacy rights of his fellow Brazilians. Not once in his TED Talk in Rio de Janiero call out the Brazilian government for spying on its people, yet we’re supposed to believe he’s all about FREEEEEDOMS and CIVIL LIBERTIEEEES!!!! here in the US. Greenwald can go bugger off!

      • forpeace October 12th, 2014 at 17:24

        Yes, that is true, because Greenwald’s main goal that is more profitable for him is U.S. not Brazil. And I have never heard him criticizing what is happening in Brazil and its government.

    I haven’t formed an opinion on Snowden yet..
    I’m not sure if he is a leaker…
    A whistle blower..
    A hero..
    Or a traitor..
    I do know if the US government gets hold of him he will be charged and convicted of crimes that would at least cost him 20 years in a federal prison..
    Look what they did to Chelsae (Bradly) Manning for providing “secrets” to Wiki-links,(Julian Assange)..
    I understand why he fled the country, and the only place that allowed him sanctuary was Russia..
    And believe that Vlad the Putin is only using him as a tool to get under the skin of the US.
    Exposing the mass surveillance of all Americans communications by the NSA was not something that we all didn’t need to know, however the government doesn’t see it that way.
    And by telling the world about our surveillance abilities may not have been in the best interest of the United States either.

      Frankly, I think that Snowden has shown the same level of contempt for our Constitution as Dick Cheney, who decided that;
      ‘ I want to start this program, and I don’t need no stink’n duly elected government or no stink’n duly appointed Court….. I’ll do what I want.’

      Snowden simply said;
      ‘I want to end this program, and I don’t care about no stink’n duly elected government or no stink’n duly appointed Court ….. I’ll do what I want.’

      What gave him the right to tell the Chinese about our spying on their nuclear programs; He revealed documents showing that the N.S.A. had obtained text messages from the Chinese by hacking into some of the country’s telecommunications networks, engaged in computer espionage activities at Tsinghua University?

      When did we elect Snowden or Greenwald to make these policies?

      Funny how Glenn Greenwald sells software on his new website, after he scares he reader about invasions of their privacy. Much like Glenn Beck sells gold.

      This issue may be solved in the future, but not until the public decides it is important even AFTER an attack.

      I have no doubt that if Obama had refused to sign the renewal in 2011, that he would have been removed from office after Boston, if he had even been re-elected.

      While I don’t trust the NSA anymore than I trust Snowden/Greenwald, until then, no government is going to be the only one NOT engaging in this activity, and no elected official is going to be the one to take the blame for the next attack, in spite of their phony outrage now.
