Mayor: A Gang Of Armed White Men Will Be Standing Along Parade Route, Do Not Be Alarmed

Posted by | October 11, 2014 17:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Open Carry activists would have us believe that people are not afraid of guns while they strut into family friendly establishments with military-style weapons strapped to their backs.

The Angleton Mayor’s office was informed that Open Carry Texas members will attend the Brazoria County Fair Parade in Angleton on Saturday and felt it necessary to issue a press release “so that citizens attending the parade will not be alarmed.”

Via Your Houston News:

The Fair Parade committee approved this group’s application. They have agreed not to carry any firearms in the parade; however there may be members of the group along the parade route displaying rifles, shotguns and black powder pistols in open holsters, which is legal in TX.

This information is being released in the interest of Public Safety so that citizens attending the parade will not be alarmed if they sec non-uniformed individuals carrying weapons.

[sic]

So a press release was issued so that the public will not be “alarmed” when they see an armed gang of white guys standing along the parade route displaying their long guns. Open Carry Texas and other groups have been marching in parades lately as a form of self-promotion, which they no doubt will call ‘exercising their Second Amendment rights.”

What these groups are trying to do is desensitize the population so that witnessing their tactics will eventually not be an issue with residents in neighborhoods they invade. Because their rights trump yours. Because they are just that f*cking special. Because sometimes intimidation works and they will push the boundaries.

Because they don’t care what you think, if you’re uncomfortable or if your children are frightened.

Big thanks to my friend out there for sending me the link.

, “a gang of white men fought the british and gave you your rights.”

Actually the very first person to die for this country in the struggle for independence was a black man.

“This information is being released in the interest of Public Safety so that citizens attending the parade will not be alarmed if they see non-uniformed individuals carrying weapons.”

And if any of these non-uniformed individuals decide to rob you, feel free to stand your ground and open fire on them. And may the best man win.

I understand what he/she said, but their point was lost on me. Are they saying the OCT people may rob you? Are they making a dig on stand your ground? What is with the “may the best man win” line?

          • M D Reese October 11th, 2014 at 23:03

It’s a commentary on their wild wild west mentality. Fast food joint give you the wrong burger? Open fire. Girlfriend dis you? Open fire…

Just curious–why “dude” in your first response, and “he/she” in the next?

            • josephKing October 11th, 2014 at 23:06

              ew, ew, I have one…or like…get pregnant…kill it. I like this game!

              • M D Reese October 11th, 2014 at 23:07

No–one thing is not just like the other, unless you are referencing the fact that pregnant women are often killed by the father of the child. It’s the number one cause of death for pregnant women AND their fetuses.

                • josephKing October 11th, 2014 at 23:08

Shoot, you’re right, one type of murder is not as bad as the other, what was I thinking?

                • josephKing October 11th, 2014 at 23:28

Pregnant women should be armed more often. It would help defend themselves.

                • cargosquid October 12th, 2014 at 17:47

But not the number one cause of death for their fetuses….that would be those mothers that abort……

That would be nature, which aborts fetuses like crazy.

Women do not ‘abort’ children. They abort fetuses.

They abort babies. You know…. the “things” that result in a double homicide charge and conviction if you murder a pregnant woman.

                    • Anomaly 100 October 13th, 2014 at 06:33

That’s potential life, you know, that thing that happens before it’s actually alive. You’re not schooling anyone here. It’s called biology.

Maybe we should criminalize sperm, too.

        • Jeffrey Samuels October 13th, 2014 at 09:50

when you see someone (or a gang) with guns. They are strangers. You have no idea whether they are good guys, bad guys or disturbed people who just think they are good guys.

In that situation, it is best to go elsewhere and notify the police.
We do not live in Beirut, nor do we want our kids to become so desensitized to violence that seeing armed gangs is considered normal.

AND they are all blue cities.

                      ________

And the poorest states (who take more federal dollars than they contribute) are all red states.

At least in the blue cities, one can point to the influx of people hoping to find jobs while “free market” (red) policies have facilitated the job loss in industrial cities.

What is the excuse for the poverty of the red states in general or for deep, deep red Owsley county Ky, which holds the national title for poorest county, with unemployment at 150% the national average?

The top ten states for gun violence are all loose gun laws states.

              • freewill2 October 12th, 2014 at 22:19

crime in other cities of illinois is no where near the levels of chicago and morton grove. law abiding citizens can defend themselves in all other cities. January 2014..the State of Illinois started issueing permits to chicago residents to defend themselves. the Chicago sun times website reported that for the first time in years crime is going down. give me a state and i will prove you wrong with official stats. The U.S Virgin Islands has the highest per capita murder rate, and the strictest gun controls. criminals are not driving to indiana to buy a gun and then hurry back to where they are safe to commit crimes.

        • CherMoe October 13th, 2014 at 07:15

Most crimes are committed by the proverbial “good guy with a gun.” That critter just doesn’t exist any more. The majority of people with a gun will eventually use it, especially in a display of anger at a spouse, family member, a neighbor, etc. In the absence of guns, that scenario wouldn’t likely be taking place. Boys like guns because they’re impersonal and they can be detached from the reality of the bullet leaving the barrel and striking a person many yards away. A gun is manufactured for one reason only … to KILL. People who buy them do so for one reason only … to potentially KILL someone or something. That doesn’t promote peace and harmony in our country and doesn’t make OTHER people feel safe, especially with the low mentality of most people who have those guns.

          • freewill2 October 14th, 2014 at 22:26

over 100 million firearm owners. and you talk about a few bad guys, most crimes are in gun ban states or cities.

          • DesertFox-1A October 21st, 2014 at 20:45

While I will agree with most of what you say here, not all firearms are bought for the purpose of killing. I collect old firearms, and of late the only thing I have ‘killed’ with any of them has been Tidy Cat litter jugs full of water or paper targets. There are many firearms collectors who collect these bits of history and enjoy firing them on ranges. But these weak little men and their phallic symbols are trying to start a fight over ‘gun’ rights or maybe want to get into a gun fight. If they had only seen what a rifle of those calibers only does to a human body. Not pretty.

The reason that there are no armed victims is, they are usually dead victims, who have had their weapons stolen. And I agree what is the real purpose these insecure men have to carry long guns. I own several weapons, but I see no need to carry them, when I go to the corner store for a carton of milk.

there is no dead armed victims, if you bother to check the stats, criminals attack gun free zones. i.ve always said, keep your long guns handy. when the cops and military walk the streets with long guns then get yours. the horses all along the streets had a rifle on them. to steal one was rare. they didnt take there rifles into the stores, they left it on their horse or wagon.

            • DesertFox-1A October 21st, 2014 at 21:58

Again you are not basing anything on historical context, you base it on novels and movies, not real life. True those who traveled did carry a weapon on them and maybe a long gun on the saddle. Especially during the Indian Wars, the riders would then carry a weapon and would use them if they needed to or had the chance to. The city folks did not go around and carry weapons everywhere they went, there was no need to, but, when the need arose they were able to get them, usually from the town marshal or the local hardware store. i.e. The Great James/Younger Northfield Raid. Just do not believe the romanticized west of the novels and movies, they do that to sell their product.
Large portions of the population were veterans of the Mexican war or the Great War of the Rebellion and did not deem it necessary to carry a weapon all the time. Traveling had its dangers depending on were you where, those dangers ranged from grizzlies and rattlers to Mexican bandits or Apaches or any of the other warring native peoples. When you got to town if you were stopping for a while you usually left you weapons in your hotel room, including your side arms, that is if you did not have to check them with the town marshal first. If a traveler was just stopping to purchase supplies or for a meal at a table that was not burned over a fire, they might leave their long guns on the saddle. No one would have thought to take a travelers weapon off of his or her horse, unlike today when an unattended weapon in a car or pickup truck would be stole in a blink of an eye, depending on where you are at.
But generally the locals, including the ranchers and farmers did not carry their weapons on themselves all the time, during round ups when they had to deal with some fairly woolly old range bulls they did carry a rifle on the saddle, but from all of the accounts that I have read and the stories that I heard from some of the old cowboys, a holstered pistol was more a danger to the rider than the bull was. You know history is a wonderful thing, if you take the time to learn it.

side arms was a way of life in most of the americas. canada to argentina. the west was never as violent as hollywood portrays. our nation was founded on the belief that every man take care of himself and family. theres always going to be a violent person, its your responsibilty to stop him. the cops show up later. North field Minnesota was not friendly to the james gang. nobody ran to get their guns, they already had them. the Dalton gang had the same fate. today criminals rule the streets in gun control city’s like chicago, ,LA, NYC, , city’s with the least restictions have the lowest crime rate.

In that situation, it is best to go elsewhere and notify the police.

That last thing my family needs is some commando wanna be thinking he’s going to protect me. If you’re too frightened to attend a parade without your strap-on penis, maybe a rifle isn’t what you really need.

      • freewill2 October 12th, 2014 at 09:36

well a side arm would be just fine. the rifles are a little out of place, but when the cops and military start carrying theirs, then we should worry and have ours too.

Protect us from who? People like you? We don’t live in Somalia, sport. This is taking place at the Brazoria County Fair Parade in Angleton, Texas. Are you saying Texas is so unsafe that self-proclaimed armed guards need to be at a frickin’ county fair parade to protect the citizenry? And are you saying that the police who will be on duty at the parade are so bad at their job that they need supplemental help from these gun-totin’ yahoos? It’s anti-America people like you that do more harm to the country than anyone else.

i dont go to parades or other events, to many armed cops.

    • CherMoe October 13th, 2014 at 07:10

I don’t think these gun nuts are there to protect the local citizenry. They’re part of a growing “cult” in this country that is trying to intimidate the country and “flex their muscles” just to prove they can. I trust them as much as I trust cops with a gun. And I’m white.

      • freewill2 October 14th, 2014 at 22:27

these so called gun nuts dont get in your face and tell you they are there to protect you from yourself and then write you a ticket.

some moron carrying an assault weapon to go to the grocery store is there to protect me? Sorry! It is far more likely that the individual has self esteem issues and that makes him potentially dangerous. If he was really carrying a gun for protection, he could carry a hidden firearm and not make himself the center of attention.

i agree the long arm is a little extreme. but remember, our founding fathers always carried theirs.

What’s with the long barrel weapons for open carry? Generally speaking,
carrying a gun is about self-defense. A slung long barrel is probably
as useless in that scenario as a can of fix-a-flat is when 3 of his tires go flat..

That is kind of the point of their “protests.” they want to carry a handgun openly. I mean, I dont get the hard on they get for Open carry, but whatever, thats on them. Its no skin off my back if they open carry a pistol.

      • Spirit of America October 13th, 2014 at 17:03

” they want to carry a handgun openly”
I understand the handgun point of view. I was asking why the long barrels.

        • tmf_x October 13th, 2014 at 20:14

Well I assume the open carry of long barrel is due to hunting. But the state, as odd as I find it, doesnt allow open carry of handguns. Id wager every one of these dudes would put down the rifles and open carry a handgun if they legally could.

Once again, I dont understand the draw of open carry, but it seems weird to me that they wouldnt allow handguns.

If these members of the small penis clubs, would just invest in a gym and lose some weight maybe they could get over their feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem,and deal with the fact that they were never allowed to sit with the cool kids in high school.
