Obamacare Successes Continue, Now Via Walmart

What I personally find most annoying about conservatives is the extent to which they can be so dreadfully wrong, yet refuse to admit error.

Most of us can likely recall the litany of warnings from the right wing when the Affordable Care Act was passed. I am not going to waste time and space reviewing the nonsense which emanated from the right wing noise machine.

I will simply share with you all, this story which in a normal world would not qualify as news at all. Walmart, that paragon of American capitalism, and the company pointed to by conservatives as the essence of the American free market, is getting into the health insurance exchange business, thanks to Obamacare.

Another right-wing fairy tale bites the dust, as Walmart demonstrates that claims of the ACA being a socialist job-killing unAmerican take over of the free market, are pure bunk.

The ACA is good for people, good for business, and good for America. Even Walmart says so. Conservatives were wrong, again.

The world’s largest retailer plans to work with DirectHealth.com, an online health insurance comparison site and agency, to allow shoppers to compare coverage options and enroll in Medicare plans or the public exchange plans created under the Affordable Care Act.

“The ACA is good for people, good for business, and good for America. Even Walmart says so”
Walmart says no such thing! – Your entire article is filled with Conjecture. No Facts whatsoever! I think your love of Democrats blinds you so much that you cannot see with clear eyes. Just because Walmart now wants a piece of the Money,( A TRUCKLOAD) doesn’t mean that this is a success.
Whats next? We all have to eat so why not pass the pass the Michelle Obama Care Act – Where we are forced to buy only Certain foods or pay a fine to the IRS?
Like Obama Care, your article is a mess:(

In reply to your nonsense: “I am not going to waste time and space reviewing the nonsense which emanated from the right wing noise machine.”

    • Abby Normal October 7th, 2014 at 11:23

Actually, it was a very good article. The ACA IS good for people, good for business and good for America. Now that Walmart has embraced it, opposition from the lunatic fringe should start to diminish rather quickly.

    • mea_mark October 7th, 2014 at 11:31

Your whining and complaining is based on conjecture, project much?

      • Stefan Martin October 7th, 2014 at 13:39

You are another fool that has no clue what you are saying. If I disagree with your philosophy you say I’m whining – You should make comments based on facts – instead you reply with emotions. Its not hard to see that the Far Left and Far Right extremists have MUCH in common – Their hate for the Middle class and its desire to bankrupt us all.

        • mea_mark October 7th, 2014 at 13:43

          Conjecture again.

        • veggiedude October 7th, 2014 at 15:16

Over the last 50 years, the Middle class has always grown the most under a Democrat president than a Republican one, as Bill Clinton made very clear in his famous DNC speech.

    • arc99 October 7th, 2014 at 11:44

No one is being “forced” to purchase anything. A person who purchases a home and deducts the mortgage interest from their tax bill will pay less in taxes than someone with the same income who chooses to rent. No one is “forced” to buy a house and take out a mortgage. The same principle applies. You are free to go without health insurance. You will pay more in taxes. It is your choice.

I just wish that for people who choose not to obtain health insurance, the ACA would be amended so that those people are prohibited from obtaining bankruptcy relief on medical expenses.

Whatever one thinks about Walmart, no one questions their expertise in making money. The ACA is not killing jobs, it is creating new economic partnerships and opportunities.

Ironically, you cannot even see that it is you who is relying on conjecture in order to rebut a fact-based article reporting that the largest retailer in the world sees the ACA as good for business. That exploding sound you hear in the background is not the sound of jobs being killed. It is the sound of right wing heads exploding as their anti-ACA arguments fall one by one into the dustbin of history that is best forgotten.

More than 300 repub ammendments & bills are incorporated into the HC Law reform. And nonpartisan CBO proves the ACA reduces Federal deficits $1.5 trillion. Your GOP loons should take credit for 27 million Americans now covered by the ACA http://acasignups.net/ , reducing uninsured to the lowest level, while eliminating preexisting exclusions, lifetime care caps and adding HC portability. No go take your meds.

Long story short. Wal-Mart doesn’t want to kick in for health care, but would love to rake in the money from the walk in clinic business.

    • veggiedude October 7th, 2014 at 15:17

They do not have the SAY it. Their ACTIONS speak louder than words. By 2050, all Republicans will love ACA, just as they now love the SCOTUS ruling of 47 years ago that made inter-racial marriage legal in all 50 states. Conservatives eventually become liberal – it just takes longer for them to adjust!

Walmart has decided that the $500million annual expense to insure their 30,000 part time employees working less than 30 hours per week is too expensive.

Thanks to the ACA according to the article that you cite, 1.2million Walmart employees and family members do have insurance.

Also, thanks to the ACA, those people working 30 hours or less will likely qualify for the Medicaid expansion provisions of the ACA, as long as they do not live in a state governed by conservative Republicans.

Fuck Walmart. Sideways. They are one of the reasons why we need Obamacare–to cover their employees.

I agree really. I am hardly a fan of WalMart, although I do get my vehicle oil changes there.

The point for me here is that this Walmart venture is the latest in a series of events demonstrating that the anti ACA arguments were a bunch of hooey. I and the rest of the base wanted the “public option” Medicare for all single payer solution. It did not happen. What we have is a corporate-based system which is far from perfect but light years ahead of what conservatives propose which is, …?

      • M D Reese October 7th, 2014 at 19:21

True that–I keep telling people that what we have is just another giant giveaway to the insurance companies. What we need to do is to get rid of the insurance companies and deal direct. There are so many creative things we could be doing to improve our health care system. Insurance companies exist solely to make money–lots and lots of money.
