The uniformity of opinions across regions, business sizes and types is interesting. More states should act to raise their minimum wages rather than waiting for the fed to impose one.

More employers can act to raise their minimum wages rather than waiting for the fed/states to act.

Technically true. Few lower wage employers will until they are forced to do so. A case in point of the myth of free markets correcting themselves.

        • Skydog2 September 26th, 2014 at 06:38

Well if 62% of employers think minimum wage should be increased, shouldn’t 62% of employers raise their minimum wage now?

I wonder if the GOP will just ignore this and do what the republican leadership wants and not what the people want? I know, stupid question.

If that many employers think the minimum wage should be raised they would have already increased their minimum wage employees pay. There would hardly be a worker in America actually making minimum wage. It’s not like employers have to wait until government acts. This is just one more fluff survey designed to dupe the gullible

    • mea_mark September 25th, 2014 at 15:22

They want to help their employees but want an even playing field. They don’t want to be undercut by someone who doesn’t care about their employees.

Or maybe the story is bovine scatology

New poll out, 95 percent the population would like the government to send them a check for $100,000.

Not my employer, he would rather hire a few more undocumented employees, you know the kind that don’t speak english which means they will never ask for a raise, the kind that are in hiding, so they will never ask for health insurance, the kind that do as they are shown even if the one showing them is only half worthy of sharing to begin with. Sad to see how much they are taken advantage of I work for a True Coward!!!!

According to Chris Matthews, when the Fair Labor Standards Act was created, a provision to tie the minimum wage to inflation was opposed by Democrats who preferred to have the issue come up every few years so they could use it for political purposes.

Most employers probably wouldn’t mind if it were continually adjusted for inflation. It’s the big jumps, and the uncertainty about them, that business people dislike.

    • fancypants September 25th, 2014 at 18:08

I am a Republican, and I would strongly support it, because I am sick of debating this issue. Agree on a new minimum wage, and then tie it to inflation. End of debate. But Dems will never agree to that, because they like having the issue (as opposed to finding a permanent solution).

lol Got any more jokes ?

      • Robert M. Snyder September 25th, 2014 at 20:19

Hey, I’m not crazy about the Republicans in Congress. But I think you will find a lot of rank and file Republicans who would support tying the minimum wage to inflation. No joke.

        • jasperjava September 25th, 2014 at 20:40

Tying the minimum wage to inflation only insures that slave wages are poured in concrete. We have to make it a LIVING wage.

          • Robert M. Snyder September 25th, 2014 at 20:58

At least if it’s tied to inflation, nobody is losing ground. Why won’t the Dems propose a bill that ties it to inflation? Answer: Because they like having to fight for increases every few years instead of having them be automatic. They don’t care about the minimum wage workers. They are just pawns in a political contest.

        • fancypants September 25th, 2014 at 20:47

In my state (where this article originates ) the republicans would rather stuff their own pockets then stuff yours.
          NO JOKE

If your Congressperson proposes raising the minimum wage, ask if they also support automatically adjusting it every year for inflation. If they say no, ask why not. If they say “because Republicans would oppose an inflation adjustment”, ask them “Which Republicans?”. I am a Republican, and I would strongly support it, because I am sick of debating this issue. Agree on a new minimum wage, and then tie it to inflation. End of debate. But Dems will never agree to that, because they like having the issue (as opposed to finding a permanent solution).

They can pay their employees as much as they like without needing a government regulation to do it. Something’s really questionable about the stats and the agenda of Alan Colmes.

    • OldLefty December 7th, 2014 at 09:21

That’s what many say about the stats and the agenda of of all the conservative pundits.

By the way, they clearly DO need government regulation.
That is the difference between the developed and the third world.
