Fire At Memorial For Michael Brown Adds Tensions In Ferguson

A Tuesday fire destroyed a makeshift memorial for slain Ferguson teenager Michael Brown.

The memorial for 18-year-old Michael Brown that caught fire was erected in a grassy area alongside the road where Brown died. A larger memorial, which runs down the center lane of the road, was untouched by the fire.

Still, neighborhood residents who have been protecting and building on the memorials since Brown was killed Aug. 9 were angered by the damage, and some were accusing city officials of not working hard enough to put the blaze out.

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III said, “Tensions are running high. We’re taking it very seriously.” A planned weekend festival is being postponed because of safety concerns.

“some were accusing city officials of not working hard enough to put the blaze out.”

Gee…can’t imagine where people are getting that impression from.

Do you understand the difference between police officers and firefighters?

      • EnuffBull September 24th, 2014 at 09:41

Firefighters don’t shoot unarmed teens? Don’t tazer pregnant women? Don’t mace silent protesters?

Police = serve and protect the community

Radicals = attack the police to score political points

Posters don’t understand SNARK when they read it?

Scoring political points? Is that what the Cliven Bundy gun fetishists were doing? I appreciate the clarification.

Not sure what this has to do with Bundy but ……. he’s not a gun fetish, he’s a senile wacko.

That memorial fire is part of the community. That they are not protecting.

      • William September 24th, 2014 at 10:54

        Police cars carry fire extinguishers.

        • Skydog2 September 24th, 2014 at 11:33

For small fires, some people grab a fire extinguisher and deal with it themselves rather than waiting for the fire trucks / police to arrive.

Other people do nothing then complain about what the police didn’t do.

Are out-of-towners being blamed for this violence?

    – At least two protesters were arrested
    – Some businesses were damaged
    – Break-in of a beauty supply store, $100,000 in merchandise stolen
    – Gunshots heard nearby

I guess, that want a riot so they can legitimize using their riot gears, again.
