Armed Open Carry Activist Walks Outside Nashville High School Wearing Bulletproof Vest

Posted by | September 17, 2014 19:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Outside of Hillsboro High School in Nashville, an Open Carry activist was spotted walking around with a bulletproof vest on Wednesday, hanging flyers which referred to his rights not being infringed upon. It’s almost as if these activists have no memory of the Columbine High School shootings in which 13 people were killed and more than 20 were wounded.

Or the Sandy Hook massacre. Perhaps they remember, but they just have no respect for others.

Just because you have the right, does not mean you should make others uncomfortable while abusing that right.

Because then, you’re taking away our right to feel safe.

Yet somehow these activists feel they’ve earned respect from the rest of us who do remember the tragedy of the recent school shootings. Naturally, this activist felt compelled to go to the high school fully armed while wearing a bulletproof vest.

Big thanks to my tipster, who shall remain anonymous here.

I wouldn’t feel very “secure in my person” with that crazy gun fetishist roaming around just looking for a fight.

    • Leonard Embody September 17th, 2014 at 19:38

So, he was “looking for a fight”? How did you reach that conclusion? Was it because he handed out leaflets?

      • Roctuna September 17th, 2014 at 19:50

Because you don’t go out with your external penis of death, in body armor, unless you expect someone to shoot at you. That’s how I reached that conclusion! How obvious does it have to be?

        • Leonard Embody September 17th, 2014 at 19:54

Cops and security guards wear body armor daily. Are they “looking for a fight”? Often politicians and others wear it as well.

          • Roctuna September 17th, 2014 at 19:59

A security guard who wears body armor is living a fantasy. Cops expect to be shot at. Pols might, depending on the situation. Besides, this asshat is neither a cop, a guard, or politician on duty.

            • Leonard Embody September 17th, 2014 at 20:04

You argue that passive safety devices should not be worn by law abiding persons?

              • Jimmy Smith September 17th, 2014 at 20:13

Are you arguing that “passive safety devices” … AKA bullet proof vests … are not provocative, especially when one wears one while holding a rifle and walking around a school?
Would you feel safe if your child was in this school?

                • Leonard Embody September 17th, 2014 at 20:24

He wasn’t “holding” a rifle. Look at the picture, it was slung on his back. So, safety devices are “provocative”?

                  • whatthe46 September 17th, 2014 at 21:06

                    Darrien Hunt sword on back…

                  • Jimmy Smith September 17th, 2014 at 21:30

At this particular instant in time – do you have any proof that he was never holding his rifle at any time during his time around the school?
Since when has a bullet proof vest been a safety device for a civilian in a non conflict zone? Do you really believe that this school is a conflict zone or requires a person to wear a bullet proof vest? Would a “reasonable man” believe that wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a rifle around a school is not a provocative move?

                    • Leonard Embody September 17th, 2014 at 22:04

The cops have pointed guns at me in the past, so that is my justification for wearing body armor. I video everything, and at no time did I touch the rifle or pistol.

                    • Jimmy Smith September 17th, 2014 at 22:09

Have you ever wondered about the things that you are doing that would make police point weapons at you?

Have you ever thought that a “reasonable man”, seeing someone with a pistol or rifle, walking around with a bullet proof vest may be a threat, especially around children and call police who would respond as you have noted?

Still see they have NO RESPECT for the ENTIRE 2nd amendment!
BTW , who is this guy’s well unregulated militia’s commanding officer?

    • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 12:45

The right to bear arms is a personal right unconnected to the militia. However, I am well trained in the use of arms.

No one trusts you. That’s because we don’t know you. What I do know of you, I don’t like.

You’re allowed an opinion, but it doesn’t mean I won’t continue to open carry a rifle. You have no choice in the matter.

          • Anomaly 100 September 18th, 2014 at 16:21

You frightened people yesterday. The school was concerned. I have confirmation of that fact.

It doesn’t bother you that you’re scaring the crap out of kids?

            • mea_mark September 18th, 2014 at 16:27

I wouldn’t be surprised if he is turned on by that, it might feed his machismo.

            • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 16:27

I spoke with a large group of kids at the bus stop. I handed out a lot of leaflets and they didn’t seem scared at all. In any case an irrational fear of guns is a mental issue. I would suggest those who “feel” scared to contact a mental health professional and work out their issues.

              • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 16:29

So we should never be concerned when we see someone carrying a long gun in public? A movie theater, school, community gathering? When should we be fearful – after they start shooting? Please enlighten me.

                • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 16:34

When someone has a long gun slung on their shoulder? Concern, possibly. Fear, no. When somebody has a firearm in their hand and is shooting people? I would say concern and fear. The best way to protect yourself in an active shooter situation is seek cover and protect yourself by returning fire if they are shooting at you.

                  • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 16:43

Right….because killing innocent people in the crossfire is a good idea. Forgive me, but I don’t know or trust you as I see you walking down the street. My job is to keep myself and my family safe – and all I see is a grown man that finds it necessary to not only carry, but display a gun in public walking down the sidewalk. I have walked down sidewalks for more than 50 years and can find no possible legitimate reason to need that gun. This tells me your only purpose is self-serving narcissism and deep-seated need to intimidate those around you. I can only assume you lack the social skills needed to maneuver your way through life successfully. I don’t believe in banning guns, but I do believe in responsible ownership and nothing about your little walk-about inspires in any faith in your intentions or mental health.

Furthermore, as they teach in the mandatory Missouri Hunter Safety course, one has to be mindful of where their bullet is going. People have been shot ‘accidentally’ miles away from where a bullet was discharged, and I’d wager one of these twitchy, paranoid gun worshipers isn’t likely to give that fact enough consideration.

                    • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 17:01

I lack social skills and have a small penis, but you still can’t stop me from bearing arms. Lol

                    • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 17:39

I never made the penis remark or even alluded to the reference. I could care less about your dick, I do care that you’re clearly a sociopath that should be prevented from owning guns, operate machinery or work around children. It’s a shame you’re missing so many wonderful things in life due to your lack of empathy and inability to interact with others. One day you will regret that this ridiculous fascination was more important than people.

                  • whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 20:29

what’s sad is that you actually believe the b.s. you’re spewing. and that’s fk’n scary. so everyone should just start shooting at each other a fk’n free for all. you were certainly touched with a special stick.

                    • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 23:19

That is not what I said. Too bad you can’t stop be from open carrying a rifle in front of schools. LOL

              • Anomaly 100 September 18th, 2014 at 16:31

They’re *children* not mental cases. you idiot.

                • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 16:38

They might be if they fear inanimate objects.

                  • Anomaly 100 September 18th, 2014 at 16:41

“Might”? Kids who are in school are in fact “children.”

                    Good Lord, you’re stupid.

                  • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 16:48

No, let me be clear – it’s not the gun. It’s you with the gun that creates the fear.

                    • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 17:05

Stop worrying. I’ve a clean record, a veteran, a nurse, former gun dealer, and a family man. I am also a good shot.

                    • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 17:32

I fear you lack the capacity to understand words.

                    • searambler September 19th, 2014 at 09:57

So we should just assume that, of everyone we see walking around with a gun openly displayed? That they’re all ‘good guys with a gun’, just out for a stroll, exercising a right? Is that your goal here? To enable the ‘bad guy with a gun’ by making open carry so commonplace that they can do it with impunity, without fear of reprisal?

You’re a sociopath. And clearly you have serious mental issues. Please seek help before you get hurt or you hurt someone.

      • Um Cara September 18th, 2014 at 18:01

        Leonard,
There was a time, not very long ago, when I was at odds with the majority of my fellow liberals regarding guns. I believed there should be almost no restrictions, machine guns, silencers, whatever.

Folks like yourself have convinced me the second amendment must be repealed. Not because I really believe it gives citizens the right to shoot cops, soldiers, etc… if they think they are ‘out of control’, but rather because there seems to be so many who do believe that. Now we have folks like yourself who think it gives you the right to patrol elementary schools. I’m guessing you will change some additional people’s opinion on the second.

Repeal it, replace it w/ something allowing firearms to be stored at shooting/hunting clubs under the regulation/supervision of either local or federal law enforcement authorities. Require ammunition to be checked out & accounted for.

That’s the effect folks like yourself have had on a previously very pro gun lib. Carry on…

        • tiredoftea September 18th, 2014 at 19:26

Interesting post. There is no need to repeal the 2nd to require the restrictions you suggest. Which I agree with, BTW. The argument is a political one and the gun fetishists are winning, but they have brought the attention to themselves and most is not sympathetic to their lunatic ideas. The politics will change back and we will reclaim the 2nd in its fullest meaning. The Leonard’s of the world can go back to their closets and sniff gun oil.

      • tiredoftea September 18th, 2014 at 19:20

        Umm, no, it is not.

        • Leonard Embody September 18th, 2014 at 20:35

          Umm, yes, it is.

          • tiredoftea September 18th, 2014 at 20:46

Nope, sorry. Your, and other gun fetishist, strident position aside, the 2nd clearly, historically and contextually is in reference to a state controlled militia. The NRA and other single issue zealot groups have perverted it, so far. That will not last and the 2nd will be restored, in practice, to its full meaning.

Enjoy your lonely marches with your old gun. Impotence takes all forms.
