Carney: ‘It’s Not Going To Be A Good Year For Democrats’

Posted by | September 14, 2014 14:13 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Now that Jay Carney is no longer a presidential press secretary but, rather, a CNN commentator, he is saying things he wouldn’t say as a presidential press secretary.

“It’s not going to be a good year for Democrats by definition,” Carney said. “The sixth year is always particularly bad for a president’s party. You couple that with the fact so many seats are defended by Democrats in red states where Mitt Romney did very well against the president, double-digits in most cases, and there’s no outcome in November that anybody could say would be great for Democrats, except for barely holding onto

Carney added that this by no means meant the GOP was in the clear. “The problem for Republicans if they win is Americans begin to think that ‘we hate Congress’ and it is now clear that one party is in control of Congress.”

Milt Shook at pleasecutthecrap.com wrote an excellent op-ed debunking this conventional wisdom from pundits that “Democrats do bad in midterms.”

I have heard some saying Harry Reid is throwing this election so in 2016, Dems will sweep up both houses and the Presidency again. I think that will lead to 2 years of damage we can’t afford.

    • R.J. Carter September 14th, 2014 at 14:45

Sounds like Harry can read the writing on the wall and is using the PeeWee Herman “I meant to do that” defense.

    • mea_mark September 14th, 2014 at 14:55

That sounds more like something Steve Israel would do. The DCCC needs to can his butt. His allocation of campaign resources is poor at best.

Harry comes off as a pretty straight shooter to me. Doubt that he’s ‘throwing’ anything, but I don’t doubt that he’s looking ahead to 2016.

If we don’t vote, It won’t be a good year for democrats. If the democrats shed their apathy and actually turn out in record numbers it could very well be a good year for democrats. Really, the choice is entirely in the hands of the democrats, to vote or not to vote. When democrats turn out in high numbers their chances of winning go up significantly.

    • granpa.usthai September 14th, 2014 at 15:21

fear, apathy, confusion and just plain out false fabrication is the staple for Republican Rule. Hell, just take a look at the current House of Representatives and their leadership.

Statistically he’s correct but if voters give the nutcases enough rope, they’l quickly be gasping for good government instead of 54 votes to impossibly repeal 2010’s $1.5 T deficit reducing HC law that is 80% nondiscretionary funded by law, without congressional oversight:)

I want everybody to vote in each election because I have the ‘goo-goo syndrome’-unlike Paul Weyrich, father of the right-wing movement, co-founder of the Heritage Foundation and Moral Majority who knows Cons can’t win when everybody votes! http://crooksandliars.com/2007/06/07/paul-weyrich-goo-goo-syndrome

should speak volumes even to the uninformed voter. Republicans only want the select few to vote because they’ll be elected. Nothing like minority selected leaders to destroy the republic from within -lot like the ending of the German Republic in more than just many ways.

the Republicans were pumped to put Romney in the White House in 2012 too. I’m beginning to believe they’re right about the media being biased, eg: build ’em up to certain victory just sos they’ll crash and burn in utter defeat. Myself, I’ll vote early -again, and for my State’s Democrat Senator, mostly because of the unending 24/7 made up half truth BS the Republicans are running, but also partly because the other Senator is a Typical Republican over flowing with LYING BS.

Sounds like Carney is doing the “lowering expectations” pitch for Obama and Dems. Some polling is showing otherwise and repubs might not get the Senate.

its going to be a damn great year for democrats! we’re going to pick up about 6-8,gubernatorial seats held by the gop. I’m confident mcconnell is a gonner, and nunn will pick up the senate seat vacated by chambliss. if the gop shut down government, we will welcome speaker pelosi!

    • R.J. Carter September 14th, 2014 at 18:02

Because that worked out SO well the last time…

    • Jason September 19th, 2014 at 06:23

Only a low information voter would want pelosi as speaker again. If the GOP wins the Senate civilization as we know it would end let’s not forget we have to passthe aca so we can find out what’s in it. Come on how ignorant can one be.

If we vote We win. Period. If things were so much in the clear for the Re-thugs. They wouldn’t be going through so much extreme to keep us from voting. It is not going to happen. We are going to vote.

Truman was the last president to have his party in either house of congress in his 6th year. If the Democrats keep the senate they will have bucked a 64 year trend.
