An Arkansas pizza restaurant will continue to give special privileges to churchgoers, despite warnings from atheist groups that the discriminatory practice was against the law. In August, Bailey’s Pizza took a page from a restaurant that offers a 15% discount for praying in public (in direct violation of explicit instructions in Matthew 6:5 not to pray…

dumb – it’s no different than having a coupon etc – but just wait until the face of mary or her kid is found in the gooey cheese topping of a pizza – then y’all will know the troof about god and his kin

I’m amazed at how many of my fellow liberals, people I like and admire, feel it’s ok to discriminate against atheists. If it were any other group specifically listed in the civil rights act, many if these same people would be up in arms over the injustice.
If the restaurant was offering a ‘white discount’ or an ‘Irish discount’ or even a ‘catholic discount’, these comments here would look very different. Heck, if it was a ‘mommy and daddy discount’ that excluded same-sex couples, this board would light up, and sexual orientation is not even covered under the federal rights act ( though some states/localities do cover sexual orientation).
But, talk about atheist discrimination, and most everyone is ok with it, and we’re called names. Apparently, we really are the last minority it’s ok to discriminate against. Very disappointed right now. After all, I’m not a lesbian, but I fight for LGBT rights. One doesn’t need to be atheist to see that discrimination against atheists is wrong.

Sadly, sexual orientation is not protected under the federal civil rights act, though it is covered under some state or local civil rights act.
I feel it should be added but doubt that will happen anytime soon.

So sexual orientation is not one of the protected classes, but sexual gender is.
Pretty much obviates every “Ladies’ Night” anywhere, ever.

Yeah, but everyone knows it’s called “Ladies Night” but it’s for the benefit of men.

So it’s a discount to the ladies and a facilitation for drunken hookups? Not sure that makes it better.

Does belonging to he Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster count towards getting a coupon?
R.J. Carter September 8th, 2014 at 10:29
If they meet and distribute weekly flyers, it would have to.
mmaynard119 September 9th, 2014 at 09:10
Well, they do wear pasta strainers on their heads, that should be enough indication.
