According to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, a ten-year-old boy was shot in a hunting accident on Monday afternoon The boy was dove hunting with his family in Dinwiddie. A gun fired and shotgun pellets  struck the boy’s chest and shoulder, according to NBC 12.

The child was rushed to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. He sustained injuries which were not a threat to his life .

So happy, this young man is OK, but, “All is fine? All is fine?” Get real.

I have a feeling we progressives who glean information from LL and a few other left leaning sites, are the only ones who ever hear of these types of gun incidents. Most everyone else never knows of all the children that get shot because of idiocy almost everyday. If it were reported on mainstream nightly news, there may be enough outrage to change what needs to be changed.

More kids die every year due to accidental drowning than due to accidental firearm fatalities.

Before you ban guns, care to ban pools?

There are no accidental firearm deaths, none. It’s never an accident to point and fire a loaded gun at someone. It’s exactly what it was meant to do. It’s never an accident when some idiot leaves a gun where children can get to it. It’s never an accident when some deranged psycho kills a roomful of kids. It’s never an accident when a felon buys a gun. It’s never an accident when a “trained” gun nut shoots himself or someone else at a training session. It certainly was no accident to hand a 9 year old a loaded fully auto machine gun.
Guns are designed to kill, pools are designed to swim in, when someone drowns, that’s an accident.

The ones I hear talk the most about banning guns are on the right. We liberals own guns, but we don’t think that they’re more important than having good policies in place that make their use and ownership safer.

I find it hard to take seriously someone who claims to be pro-life and says, “Oh, well, sh*t happens, prayers to the family” when our kids are hurt/killed due to the actions of irresponsible gun owners/operators.

CDC numbers for kids under 14, two drown every day. That’s about 700.

The kids in approximately the same age bracket who die from murder (119 in 2011 for 12 and under, so let’s say about 150) and so-called accidents (48 in 2009) are about 200. The National Library of Medicine says the ratio of fatal to non-fatal gun shot incidents is 1:4, which sounds about right.

        That means dead kids (200) plus injured kids (200 * 4 = 800) total 1,000

        That’s swimming pools 700, guns 1,000.

I couldn’t watch the video–it was erratic. Maybe they explain it there, but really, “a gun went off”? All by itself? Somebody call the NRA.

Would it be possible to accept less responsibility? “A boy was shot.” “A gun fired.”
    “Pellets struck the boy.”
Really? Pellets just fell from the sky, like gentle raindrops; Nobody shot him, he just became shot, somehow; A gun fired, with no one around to stop it.
What happened to “Guns don’t go off by themselves”? Why not this headline
