VA Says No Deaths Because Of Wait Times

Posted by | August 26, 2014 13:04 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

The Inspector General for the Department of Veterans Affairs is releasing a report saying there were no deaths because of wait times at their Phoenix facility.

Employees at VA centers in Wyoming, Texas and North Carolina alleged that there was a concerted effort to hide long wait times.

In May, the inspector general said it was going to investigate 26 VA facilities.

By the end of the month, VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, a decorated Vietnam veteran, resigned. In July, former corporate CEO and former Army officer Robert McDonald was confirmed by the Senate to replace Shinseki.
McDonald vowed to make changes.

He took control of the VA a month after a June 9 internal audit of hundreds of Veterans Affairs facilities, which revealed that 63,869 veterans enrolled in the VA health care system in the past 10 years had yet to be seen for an appointment.

Glad they found a facility that was apparently being ran correctly.

    Yeah…but what about Benghazi?

      Wait for it…IRS, IRS, IRS!

And yet I can’t find a link to this story on Drudge or Fox.

The saddest part of this deal is that there were families of vets who died telling their “stories” on Fox. Of course they all smelled like b.s. just as the “I have cancer and I lost my insurance because of Obamacare” stories did.

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 13:42

      Those weren’t the same people?

    • R.J. Carter August 26th, 2014 at 13:44

That’s because it’s a single facility — I can see where the less-specific headline might seem to be an exoneration of the entire VA process.

      • rational_thinking_one August 26th, 2014 at 13:53

Because that was supposedly the facility that was responsible for the 40 deaths. Was Rush and O’Reilly not clear on that point?

        • R.J. Carter August 26th, 2014 at 13:57

So it was… I kept thinking Virginia (probably because “VA” usage all the time).

Well then, that being the case, I’m glad nobody died at all.

Are they ever clear on any point?

They even fooled CNN. Those 40 people should be ashamed of themselves, passing themselves off as dead just to give the administration a black eye.

Of course, for many of us, waiting more that two weeks for an appointment at ANY doctor is often the rule. Why should the VA be better than any civilian doctor? Those that did die were most likely close to death already and, had they not been vets, the situation wouldn’t have been any different.
If they had serious medical problems why not go to the local emergency room or ‘urgent care’ clinic?

    • R.J. Carter August 26th, 2014 at 14:39

It wasn’t the wait that killed them — much in the same way that it isn’t falling from an airplane that causes death so much as it is that sudden stop at the end.

I’m shocked that a government agency tasked with investigating itself found no evidence that people were harmed. I’m sure the Ferguson PD will find the same thing when they investigate Browns death too.
