Images: New Police Commander Walks With Ferguson Protesters

There’s been a change in Ferguson, Missouri and his name is Capt. Ron Johnson of the Missouri Highway Patrol. Johnson is the new police commander and instead of divisive tactics, he’s walking with the people of Ferguson who are protesting the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) has given control of security operations in Ferguson to Johnson, who heads the highway patrol’s troop in the region, and will now direct the law enforcement response in the riot-riven city, according to The Washington Post.

Jamil Smith tweeted this photo.

Because actions and words matter.

Johnson walks with them, not at them.

What a difference a day makes. What a difference one man can make.

What an excellent difference great leaders and another day brings! ‘And he made them in his own self image.’ Racists smacked down again. Boom!

How much rope will his white management give him?

Now now, don’t be a buzz-kill. It was a deft move by Gov. Jay Nixon (D) to put a black-face on this mess. What else could a pale-skin liberal do, go to Ferguson himself? The last thing places like Ferguson needs is a new cop, regardless his intentions or likability, he still represents a corrupt institution that sees itself at war with the people.

Enough… but he’ll just use it to build bridges instead.

Funny how people will react when you show them respect

Remember the children’s story about the Wind and the Sun challenging each other about which one could make the man take off his jacket? This a real life example of that principle: you are more likely to get people to do what you want when you treat them with warmth and respect. Just imagine how long things would have gone on and the lives and property damaged by continuing to solve this problems by guns and brute force.

Perhaps our politicians should take note of this incident and consider that not all of our foreign policy should consist of tanks and artillery. Diplomacy does work and is vastly underrated.

Wow, what a welcome voice of sanity is Ron Johnson. Not the place for it, I know, but I couldn’t help thinking of this poster created by the very odd, and very funny, Scarfolk Council website:
