Ferguson Police Use Smoke Bombs, Tear Gas While Clashing With Protesters
Police in Ferguson, MO continue to clash with protesters, but this time with tear gas and smoke bombs.
Click here for reuse options!Two reporters said they were detained tonight while working at a McDonald’s in the area and witnesses told ABC News police that officers appeared to be trying to clear the streets at all costs.
The police department has been criticized for its heavily-armed response to protesters, some of whom looted and vandalized stores on Sunday night.
Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson today defended his department’s use of rubber bullets and tear gas to quell protesters.
“There are complaints about the response from some people, but to me, nobody got hurt seriously, and I’m happy about that. I’m happy that nobody got hurt,” Jackson said at a press conference today. Earlier he told ABC News the police had only used tear gas and rubber bullets when protests had turned violent on recent nights.

There’s no need to apologize, your reply contains more than a hint of truth. I also think it’s about priorities, getting our own House in order. At this point it seems clear to me that too many elected officials, local, state and national, don’t understand or don’t care what it’s like for most people who live in a places like Ferguson (St. Louis), and every other community of color that struggles with poverty, crime and neglect.

Its all speculation at this point, but I’m hearing unofficial whispers that the officer is claiming he was jumped while sitting in his marked squad car. You would have to be a hard sob to commit that type of suicide.
The grand jury will hear the evidence and hopefully my city can start healing.
My apologies, I’m to close to this story from both sides. Its why I’m trying to stay away from news stories.

If you attack an armed police officer its like committing suicide.
I just don’t believe that this particular young man decided the day before the1st day of school to deliberately attack a police officer. It just doesn’t make sense.
Friends and family are cops but I grew up an inner city kid so my loyalties are naturally divided. That young man could of easily been me 30 years ago.
I will say this, if a cop shot and killed my child or friend I wouldn’t rob or burn my neighbors house down or destroy his livelihood, that I can say with confidence. I just don’t understand any of the looting.

Most of the looting was probably opportunists taking advantage of a chaotic situation. From the outside looking in it seems something of a siege mentality has taken over between cops and residents. The power of the images I’ve seen are eerily similar to Freedom Summer, riot-police with snarling dogs, holding off a wall of angry young black men. Of course this is not 1964, I have to remind myself. Back in the day when Democrats actually had some guts.

That sounds like the story he will use in court hoping it will create some doubt. My guess is most of the officers know how he has been doing things and know he blew it. They just don’t know what to do because they don’t want to seen as betraying a fellow officer. Unfortunately all they are doing is betraying themselves and their entire department by defending and protecting someone who committed a crime. If the Ferguson PD had any real integrity they would ask to be replaced and have someone else come in and handle all the law enforcement for them.

That happened on day 1. It is just getting worse because our commander-in-chief hasn’t stepped in yet and told the armed authorities to back-off and stand down. We need a president who can say enough is enough and send in replacements for the entire area of Ferguson until a new department can be built with the people that live there. Ferguson needs to be policed by the there own and their PD should reflect the people that live there. Right now it looks like a feudal situation with the rich ruling over the poor and doing whatever they want without full regard for the law.
