My colleague, Anomaly100, does a bang-up job (sorry) of presenting the overtly racist book, My Parents Open Carry.I offered a comment to her original article wondering how such a book would be received if the “parents” were people of color.

Not nearly so well, I imagine.

As a matter of fact, it’s THOSE PEOPLE that the gun nuts say are the reason we NEED to arm ourselves for the inevitable day when gangs of well-armed minorities storm our neighborhoods, overpower the cops, and carry off all our wide-screen TVs and white women.

No, I just don’t think a book with a cover like this one would get a lot of positive press in the right wing hate machine.

Just look at the darling, white and no-doubt protestant Christian family in the original!

It’s the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, but they’re ARMED!!! That look in their eyes. Have you seen that look before, when religious zealots knock on your door and want to share the “REAL Word of God” with you, you unsaved heathen?

Which book cover do you think would have more sales-appeal among the World Net Daily and Glenn Beck crowd?

As a big believer in “truth in advertising,” I’ve edited the sales copy of the original book to make it a bit more honest. And isn’t just a little bit of honesty all we really need when talking about racism and guns? I think so.

The following is copied, nearly verbatim, from myparentsopencarry.com/

The parts I added are italicized.

If you open carry and have a difficult time explaining why to your family and friends (or the police) or if you want to learn about the open carry of a handgun, or if you’ve wondered if open carry is right for you, and whether or not as a person of color you can get away with it without being killed, then this book is what you need.

My Parents Open Carry was written in the hope of providing a basic overview of the right to keep and bear arms as well as the growing practice of the open carry of a handgun. We fear our children are being raised with a biased view of our constitution and especially in regards to the 2nd Amendment. Before writing this, we looked for pro-gun children’s books and couldn’t find any. Our goal was to provide a wholesome (white, blonde, blue-eyed) family book that reflects the views of the majority of the (white, blonde, blue-eyed) American people, i.e., that self-defense is a basic natural right and that firearms provide the most efficient means for that defense, like when a young black girl’s car breaks down and she knocks on your door and you use your shotgun to blow her face off. We truly hope you will enjoy this book and read and discuss it with your children over and over again.

As you read this book, you will learn about the growing practice of open carry, the 2nd Amendment, and the right and responsibility of self-defense from unarmed people carrying a can of iced tea and a pack of Skittles while wearing a hoodie.

Home School Teachers:
This book is an excellent text to use as a starting point on the discussion of the 2nd Amendment, and how to keep our white, blue-eyed, Christian children safe from the real world with all its real harms and dangers and negroes that they won’t meet until we’ve decided they’re filled with enough racism to deal with it.

“Outstanding, outstanding…every person should buy 5 copies of this book. Very well done…I believe long overdue. WELL worth learning to read, but the pictures are nice and easy to look at.” James Dumbass, Host–American Trigger Sports Network.

“I love it, especially the part where everyone with a gun is white, blonde and blue-eyed…boy does this fill a vacuum!” Alan Dimwit, gunlaws.com

“Love the book. Hate the N**gers! Mark Whiteman, Host– Armed American Radio

“Wow we have two geniuses…” “The book by Jeffs and Nephew makes me proud to be a blonde, blue-eyed white person…” “a wholesome, white, blue-eyed children’s book on the joys of having parents carrying guns openly.” J. Hoodie (There was nothing I could add to that last part of the sentence to make it more ridiculous. – Bill)

“Delicious. Them Hispanicals barbecue up real nice!” Doug Dahmer, Author and Host–Clash Radio

“Very good message in this book. Arm the blond, blue-eyed white folks. Jules Hitler III–Sons of Liberty Riders

“Loved it, I ordered a copy for our school’s library where it can sit with the other book in our library, ‘Mein Kampf.‘” John Bullfeces, Founder–Citizens League for Self-Defense

I won’t even try to write advertising copy for the “minority-version” of the book. No way it ever gets published. No way it is allowed in a book store.

Decent Americans Everywhere would be HORRIFIED!

Sorta like I was when I saw the cover of the ACTUAL book.

Oh, right. Sorry. I forgot. There is no more racism. It’s the racists who THINK that there’s racism who are the racists. Or some such…

      • R.J. Carter August 2nd, 2014 at 14:04

It was a book with a white family. Yeah, the art sucks, and the colors are way faded. But the only racism there was what you perceived and then inserted.

There’s way too much real racism in this world affecting real people to go tossing the word around for candy cane quixotic windmills.

I notice you didn’t choose this fellow for your imaginary book cover:

You are correct again. Racism is all my fault for noticing it.

Well, admitting you have a problem is the first step, so there’s hope.

Racism isn’t your fault for noticing it, but in this case it is 100% your fault that you made up racism to point out that racism exists. Just out of curiosity, what does it buy you to make up more of a bad thing? There isn’t enough racism out there already?

There’s a reason why the author and illustrator didn’t choose this fellow for their actual book cover. They knew that would hurt sales in their target market.

I may be butting in here, but while this book on its own doesn’t imply racism, you have to admit that the whole open carry movement is soaked in racism. There aren’t that many folks of color wandering around towns, proudly displaying their weaponry. And why is that, do you think? Possibly because the overt racism that comes with guns. It’s why Trayvon Martin was shot for wearing a hoodie and why a white kid wearing a hoodie doesn’t have to worry about that possibility.

In other words, a white person with a gun is ok, but a black person with a gun is scary. I don’t feel this way, I think all guns are dangerous weapons and should be treated as such.

            • R.J. Carter August 2nd, 2014 at 15:57

I do believe she was employing sarcasm.

              • mea_mark August 2nd, 2014 at 16:19

IDK, she might have been referring to the woman carrying the gun in the bookstore. You gotta be pretty darn paranoid if you think you need a gun in a bookstore. I would certainly question their mental state. A bookstore is one of the last places I would think of needing a gun. Book readers tend to be pretty peaceful people.

I misread the original post, then. I assumed you were talking about her being approached by creepy-smiling children like those in the illustration from the book — which seems to include a friendly African-American child and a friendly Hispanic child — both of whom are obviously fondling switchblades in their front pockets, because I have it on good authority that this book is completely and totally racist. :P

                • Anomaly 100 August 2nd, 2014 at 18:45

Heh. I was referring to the image you left and the lady with the gun talking to kids. I don’t want armed people that I don’t know around my little niece. I’m pretty sure my brother wouldn’t either. My brother has quite a few guns but he keeps them locked up at home.

                • jasperjava August 3rd, 2014 at 01:08

Mom “Bea Strong” would have been too afraid to approach minority children unless she was packing a sidearm. Probably wanted to check if one of them was carrying Skittles and iced tea so she could stand her ground and shoot them dead with impunity.

      • jasperjava August 3rd, 2014 at 01:06

When the only racist text is that text which was made up & inserted, maybe it’s not that the original author is racist, but the one adding racist text wants the author to be racist.
This way the author can hate someone. And post about it. And feel good that they are exposing racism that they themselves made up….
In my view, when someone wants to hate so much they have to make stuff up to do it, pity comes to mind, pure pity.

    • jasperjava August 3rd, 2014 at 01:01

As with all conservative ideas and policies, the subtext is racist. White supremacy is the ideological underpinning of modern American conservatism. Everything that conservatives believe, whether it’s economics, foreign policy, social values, labor relations, environmental policy, what have you, all is tainted by racism, whether consciously or subconsciously. You cannot understand the modern conservative movement unless you understand this.

      • Spirit of America August 3rd, 2014 at 07:49

Wow. That was my first impression of this post… simply WOW. And that was exactly what I was going to post and go on. But I held off, and thought about it and thought about it and went to hard left & right sites and read and read and realized how wrong this post was on so many levels(and yet found many such type of posts on those sites I visited, left or right), and how sad this country has become in it’s situation of such complete and total polarization. And the problem all lies in one setence:
“Everything that conservatives(liberals) believe, whether it’s economics, foreign policy, social values, labor relations, environmental policy, what have you, all is tainted by racism(destruction of America), whether consciously or subconsciously.”
NOTE: The ‘(liberals)’ & ‘(destruction of America)’ were added to show the interchangeability/other sides claim; put in your own ‘their talking points’.

        Back to that sentence.
Two very simple/surface issues come up that make the statement darn near impossible to be true:
        1. According to the statement, then Every human being is racist. There isn’t a single liberal or conservative that doesn’t cross over to the other side on at least one topic or more. And since according
to the statement EVERY conservative belief is based on racism, and one can’t be ‘sometimes’ racist, even the poster is racist, everyone.

I don’t believe that every human being is racist. There’s too many intelligent and decent people out there.

        2. In this country a law applies to all people. A business owner of any race must abide by EPA regulations or labor laws. So if a conservative believes that there should be a law that carbon emissions should be set at 100 and a liberal believes it should be set at 50, neither based their belief on racism since it will effect all conservatives or liberal business owners and there are both liberal and conservatives business owners of all races. It was just an evironmental belief which has nothing to do with racism at all. In
other words as once stated, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

But besides being incorrect in its content, digging deeper one asks why have such a belief such as the above statement?
Because it makes it not only easy but justifiable to hate. And when something is hated, it’s ok to denigrate, insult and anything goes when engaging them. Why, who wouldn’t think it’s ok to hate a group that everything they do and everything they believe in is based in something so intrinsically evil as racism(in this case)?
It literally comes down to laziness and self-discipline. The lack of self-
discipline comes into play because some just don’t want to engage in debate shackled(?) by the constraints of civil discourse, intellectual honesty and the possibility they may have to admit “hey, maybe I was wrong on this, maybe the other side has a better approach”… when confronted with that scenario they would rather be able to call names, lie about the other side’s motives, attribute evil intent. It’s easier and some just can not admit they may be wrong on ANYthing, ever. The laziness comes into play because they would much rather spout off what they heard from one side’s source… no research, no contemplating on their own… too much effort. They don’t have the time to research and/or think about it, but they want to ‘be heard’ and appear as though they are part of their crowd, to reach for a common good be dam@@d.
        My view.

        My view.

Your last paragraph seems to be more projection than anything else.

Only if someone wants it to be in order to avoid the contents.

Simple truth of life. Pointing out racism does not make on racist.

The Hitler moustache on the dad is a nice touch too. They’re a regular poster family for Aryan goodness.

Children in our society already have easy access to guns regardless of their race. Many are already racist by the time they go to school & church. Who takes responsibility for this? Nobody.
So-called adults are throwing away the hope of these children to learn to live in peace. When are people going to come to their senses & realize that the NRA is a propaganda machine whose only goal is population control?
They don’t care what race you are just so you’re willing to kill while they profit. Any questions?

Bashing whites vs blacks & blacks vs whites only adds fuel to the fire of hate and keeps all of us entrapped in a world that doesn’t work for anyone.
Humor is great. I love it wholeheartedly but I see a point when it does not suffice to be a coping strategy…We don’t laugh when a friend or family gets gunned down because the agony moves into our hearts and won’t let us breathe deeply enough to laugh. The pain when a human being dies knows
no skin color and a unique light leaves that can never be replaced on earth.
Stand in the shadow of death as someone points a gun at you & see if you want more guns in the hand of your neighbor, …any neighbor. I hope you never have to.
Do I acknowledge that racism among whites is abhorrent…absolutely. It is more prevalent than ever. Anger & blame allows people to hide the irrational fear that they are powerless.
Only love is real… (Course in Miracles)
